Return awaiting shipment

Requested: Dec 14, 2022

The buyer has until Jan 6 to ship the item back. If you choose to refund the buyer now, then the return will close and you shouldn't expect to receive the item.

This return has been approved automatically, per the eBay returns policy.

If the buyer doesn't ship the item back by Jan 6, we may close the return automatically and you will not be required to refund the buyer.

-------------------------------------------

Just don't understand why I have to wait more than 3 weeks (23 days) for the buyer to ship the item back to me, but I must refund within 2 days of receiving return.

Re: Return awaiting shipment

I agree. I had a buyer open a return on December 3. He waited until December 24 (Christmas Eve) to finally get the return in the mail. Christmas Eve of all days. 21 days! Frustrating.

Re: Return awaiting shipment

Because that is the way the system is

Because that is the way the system HAS been, at minimum, since 2019 (Covid started it)

Therefore, there is NOTHING you can do about it.

Buyer gets 3 weeks. You get 2 days. Enjoy.

Re: Return awaiting shipment

As a seller, you are running a professional business and are expected to perform up to that standard. Buyers are not in the business of packing up items (if necessary), printing off postage labels, going to the carrier's location or arranging for pickup. It may all be unfamiliar to them. I, for example, do not have a printer available and would have to make arrangements to go to my local public library to use their equipment to print a label, then affix it to the package, and head to the post office. If buyers have traditional 8:00 to 5:00 work schedules, and perhaps have family responsibilities outside of work hours, that's not always easy to accomplish.

Again, you're running a business--the buyer is not.

It can be done in 10 minutes- but doesn't change a thing. The system is what it is.

Re: Return awaiting shipment

You don't  need longer than 2 days to refund after receiving the returned item. You can do it without going outside.

On the other hand the buyer might be snowed in, have been evacuated due to wildfires or a volcano or a hurricane.

Maybe if they have a long time to return it they'll forget to return it or decide to keep it instead.

I am not really trying to change anything, just wanted to start a discussion and see how everyone else feels.

@pburn

Not every seller on eBay is running a professional business, some people sell their valuable items so they can pay a bill, most can't wait for weeks to receive their items back and relist hoping to sell again.

Do they do anything different for those sellers since I am a professional? LOL

Re: Return awaiting shipment

Apparently LV, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Chanel, Hermes, Brioni, Chloe, Prada, YSL, Brunello Cucinelli, Burberry, Balenciaga, Tom Ford, Moncler, Christian Dior, Sferra, Frette, MCM don’t seem to share this retail dogma…

Re: Return awaiting shipment

You're comparing those sites/retailers to eBay and eBay sellers? Uh, okay . . . 😂

Listen--when a person gathers up items to sell, researches prices, signs up for a selling account on eBay, sets up a Managed Payments account, lists over 1,600 items on eBay, packages up and ships sold items, pays final value fees, they're running a business.

People who throw stuff onto tables in their driveway are not.

See the difference?

Re: Return awaiting shipment

Some buyers just like to be jerks and make it so sellers have to wait as long as possible to get their item back. Do they not realize that they don't get the refund until item is delivered to the seller?
