I purchased a new radiator for my truck. The seller shipped me the wrong size radiator. I contacted the seller & they agreed to refund me the $. They are paying for the return shipping. They asked that I print the label that was sent thru Ebay, put it on the original box that the radiator came in & drop it off @ the USPS.
I printed out the return shipping label as requested & put it on the package. I took it to the Post Office.
The USPS told me that they could not accept the label on the package, that it was incorrect. Here is what I messaged back to the seller yesterday afternoon:
"They told me that it is the wrong label for the package. They said it is not a First Class package since it weighs more than 13 ounces. The package weighs 18 pounds. This is the original package that the radiator came in.
The USPS told me that the package would need either a Retail Ground label or a Priority label, not a First Class label."
This morning I got the following reply from the seller:

The post office is wrong, mis-informed about ebay returns. All ebay return labels are issued at 1st class; either that is the deal ebay has or ebay pays the post office the difference and then the seller gets billed. Either way, the seller winds up paying for the label, so now 1 of 4 things can happen;
You can go back to PO and tell them
You can simply do a 'pick up' on the USPS website, where the carrier will take the item
The seller can purchase and print you another label and snail mail it to you
The seller can have you purchase a label on usps website, and refund or send you the $ back for that.

The dimensions of the package are 36"x23"x6" It weighs 18 pounds. According to the USPS First Class guidelines, this doesn't comply.

the guidlines that ebay uses with pitney bowes call for a label to return up to 70 pounds
Pitney bowes is the one that oerates the software for shipping with ebay and the usps
the people at your post office need to be informed of the contract bewteeen ebay and the usps
its a package return service.one again you have the window section people making up the rules and asking other clueless postmasters about something

Did you not bother to read anything I told you, or did you just not comprehend anything that I told you after you read it.
ALL RETURNS BY EBAY ARE 1ST CLASS. Read my response again.

Look **bleep**er, I don't need to re-read anything, the problems are not on this end. Your reply was not helpful at all especially when dealing with the incompetent buffoons at the USPS.
I took it back to the PO, they told me NFW. I took it to another PO in the next town over, the told me NFW.
I arranged for the carrier to "pick up" They showed up, looked at the label & refused to take it.
I have sent several messages today to the seller & so far the seller is MIA.

If Ebay issued the label, it will say Return Service or something like that.
Even though it's a First Class label, it's not treated like the regular First Class labels.
Make sure the PO see's that it is a Return Service shipping label.

I had to take a return on an item that would have been about $45 priority mail, I sent out FedEx as it was cheaper, it was like 7 lbs and well over a cubic foot with an instrument cluster inside.
The eBay return label was about $17 USPS, and it was the same first class deal... and it's here in my hands, it came 1500 miles faster than it took an actual Priority package to make 200 miles the week before.
Often what the internet shows and what the counter will do are two different things, I had an argument with a counter jockey once because he wouldn't send a large video box flat rate international even though right on the website it shows that box and the DVD box can go as small flat rate. I just took it home and bought postage online.
If it was me I'd go back and tell them just what was said here, that it's a deal with eBay and the USPS to get this rate on return packages, and if they won't take the package to get the postmaster out there to explain it to them that it's fine, or you'll personally sue the counterperson for the cost of the item they won't let you return.
Well, or just try another post office, take it in, say nothing about it except this is a prepaid return please scan it in for me, and let it go.

I took it to another PO. The counter Jockey started getting rude with me with with the "it's not a First Class package" garbage, etc., Finally , I had enough of his **bleep**. I asked him nicely: "Can you not read?" What does it say right here on the freaking label??? "I need to speak to a supervisor or post master"
The counter Jockey called his supervisor. The supervisor showed up & asked what the was going on. I explained to him what I was trying to do & showed him the label on the package. As soon as he saw the label, he said "No problem, I can take care of this for you" It's now on it's way back to the seller. I look forward to getting my refund.
This ordeal with trying to return the radiator using the USPS could have easily been avoided had the seller just shipped me the correct radiator that I paid for.

Glad it finally worked out.
Sometimes it just takes finding the right person.

UPDATE:
The USPS did accept the package. Finally got some tracking info from them:
It has been exactly 1 week & the package still has not left the Elk Grove, IL Distribution Center.
This is total garbage.

Your radiator maybe @reggiemeezer but not your eBay return label. eBay says:
When a buyer returns an item and it doesn't show delivered within the specified timeframe then we will look at three possible situations to determine the outcome. 1. If the buyer used an eBay return label then we will close the case in the buyers favor, regardless of who paid for the return label. 2. If the buyer used their own label and they paid for it themselves, we will close the case in the sellers favor. 3. If the seller sent the buyer a label and the seller paid for it, we will close the case in the buyers favor. |
Since you used an eBay return label, you're protected. So when it's your day of reckoning, contact eBay on Facebook for your forced refund.
