Forced to Accept BUYER'S REMORSE Return

While Ebay has been a great access point for selling, this new issue cannot be ignored. I just had an item listed as NOT RUNNING: FOR PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY (with FREE SHIPPING) come up for a Buyer's Remorse return (by the buyer's own admission).  Ebay is forcing me to accept it back. So after the current consignments are listed this week, I will not be selling anything more expensive than-about $20 here.  This is BETRAYAL of seller trust.  Moving all of my better items to Etsy from this point on.

Further, to cement this disdain, I will be closing my existing +2000 account and re-oping a new account for these puny items, so as not to allow this exploitative institution to benefit from my years of cooperation in buyer confidence.

OMG!  I just looked at the item condition by category policy and it's still messed up from the changes they made last year, and they still haven't corrected it. When eBay made the changes to the categories last year they removed parts or not working as an item condition that was always available as a specific condition in Watches,  and instead they have added parts or not working to Health & Beauty!  It should be a condition offered in Watches and why it is no longer offered I haven't a clue. Offering it watches makes way more sense than having parts or not working in Health & Beauty.

Can someone tag a blue and find out why parts or not working was added to  H&B items  and no longer available in Watches?

For me, this thread is one more example of blaming the seller for eBay's platform issues.

Did your buyer file the return request using the proper reason or did they select one they should not have?

Re: Forced to Accept BUYER'S REMORSE Return

Yes, that's  true.  Go to Help & Contact and in the search bar on the Help page type  item condition by category. Then go to the Clothing and accessories> jewelry and watches.  Parts or not working is no longer there. But low and behold you can choose parts or not working in Health and Beauty.  Yay, I can sell my broken water pic and a broken sex toy. 🤡

eBay screwed this up months ago, the same time they screwed up the searches.

@albertabrightalberta.   Click on the link you provided.   Then click on jewelry and watches. It's in the clothing and accessories.  Parts or not working  is  not offered for watches according to that list.

In light of this, can we stop blaming sellers all the time? eBay's own platform is a mess and needs to be cleaned up.

Re: Forced to Accept BUYER'S REMORSE Return

You said to me  can we quit blaming the sellers, but if you noticed I didn't blame the seller. I just explained eBay doesn't  go by something you write in the title or description.  Besides, if the seller is able to choose parts or not working as the category  and as the condition,  it still won't  protect  them if a buyer files a dispute.

Buyers seem to devote a lot of time in this community blaming sellers for eBay's inability to manage their own platform.

Who benefits from the exploitation of weak seller protections? Ultimately the question is one of principles. Do we continue to celebrate theft and victimize sellers in an attempt to drive them off the platform or do we try to be better?

The most vulnerable come here and get jacked. I would like to see that change.

Way too often the poster is blamed for just providing what Ebay allows, doesn't allow or is an Ebay written policy.  Some don't stop to consider that you didn't write that policy nor do they consider that you are simply trying to get the correct information out there for anyone that needs it.

In none of your posts did I take it that you were blaming the Seller / OP.  I took it as great advice and showing them that they had options that may have helped them in the creation of their listing in the hopes of preventing problems like they ran into.  But certainly it would not guarantee anything nor stop many buyers from overlooking that info anyway.

Re: Forced to Accept BUYER'S REMORSE Return

You often overlook are are not willing to accept that many posters use a Posting ID.  That does not make what they have to say any less accurate or valuable to the community.  But for some reason it really annoys you.

The poster you are addressing here is both a buyer and a seller.  Nothing wrong with that either.  Being a buyer is not a bad word.  Most sellers are buyers too.

There is no dispute that the Simplified Return system that started in October of 2018 or 2019 is terrible.  It absolutely leans to the buyer that is hard to dispute.  It has been discussed countless times on various threads.

@fab_finds4u Thank you for pointing that out. I apologize because I didn't realize "not working" wasn't available in the watches category.

So if that is indeed the case, would the seller not be able to file an appeal with eBay for this over sight?

@artphotodude

I mean, how were they supposed to list ''correctly'' when the category is not available. Perhaps it is time for eBay to pay from their pocket and reimburse the seller for the buyers refund.

Re: Forced to Accept BUYER'S REMORSE Return

The only time a seller can actually Appeal a claim of any kind is if Ebay made the determination of the outcome.  Meaning they stepped in and decided.  The seller did not resolve the claim.

However there is nothing to stop a seller from contacting Ebay and arguing their point of view on the way any claim was processed.  So while not a formal appeal it can be an appeal of sorts.

In some categories you can longer select "for parts or not working".

You might be right, but there is no option to list it as "Not Working" accept in text.

Yep. Everyone responding that you made an "error" by not selecting an option that doesn't exist anymore is not helping the situation.

Due diligence, people. If someone responding is going to take the time to brow-beat people, that someone should take the time to research the problem.
