Thanks for joining us for the Weekly Chat with eBay Staff. We don't have a specific topic this week, so feel free to share any general buying or selling questions you may have.
The chat thread will remain open until 2 PM PT at which point we'll close it from additional responses. After that time, we'll continue to work on responding to any queries that might still be unanswered.
To post your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, type your question, and hit submit between 1-2 PM Pacific Time. The format of our chat mirrors the format of our Community Discussion Boards, where each post will appear in the thread chronologically. The Community Team will review each question as it comes in, and will quote the original question in our reply. This quote and the reply will appear later in the thread, so just keep scrolling down to see our answers.
Missed the chat? Send your questions to the podcast by calling 888-723-4630 or email us at podcast@ebay.com and maybe your questions will make it on the air! Or listen to past episodes while you wait for next Wednesday!

I just wanted to get some clarification on a discussion I was having on a thread a week or two ago regarding INRs.
When a buyer files an INR, the seller received an email notification of the claim being filed. The seller has the opportunity to enter an explanation if need and a tracking number if needed.
It is my understanding that the seller is NOT required to enter an explanation and NOT required to enter a tracking number if the tracking number was previously recorded in Ebay. Meaning the seller either created their label using Ebay or they copied the tracking number in on some date BEFORE the INR was filed.
Please verify or correct what my understanding is.
Thank you.
Hi @mam98031 - I've been looking into this but am having a hard time getting a definitive answer.
Based on the 2020 Spring Seller Update, I believe a seller would need to reply to the request within the 3 business days even if the shipping label was from an integrated carrier and purchased via eBay Labels. We made an announcement on that in June of last year (link here).
I've requested confirmation just to be certain, but from what I'm seeing here I'd always recommend replying to the request with the tracking information.
Thank you. I know the seller needs to reply to it, but it is my understanding that we do NOT have to re-enter the tracking number if it is something that was given to Ebay BEFORE this claim was filed.
This is a sticky point for some sellers. I tell them that if they have concern, just enter it as it doesn't hurt anything, it is just they are not required to do it if Ebay already has it.

I haven't received any, I always keep an eye on junk mail and none of ebay messages go to the junk file. I wouldn't be pushing it if a couple listings, its getting to be wide spread. Not sure how they could list a buy it now with the exact wording without being kicked out.
Please send to my ebay email if you could. it would be easier.

Ok, I did have a ticket written up on it because they could replicate it. If I type in a key work like "stik" nothing shows up but if I type "lazer stik" 6 listings show up.

Relative to the community problems........is there any effort being made to reinstate "jump to last read" instead of "jump to last". for this board and the selling board........
That jump to the last thing is happening to me on every board and it is getting beyond annoying.

New Item Specifics Jewelry with NO stones has 14 recommended IS all related to WITH stones jewelry. When the "Main Stone" specific is set to "No stone" the (approx.) 14 separate stone related IS fields or selections need to be grayed out and not "recommended" by the system as shown in seller hub.
The new fall update recommended items specifics in the jewelry categories is causing me and others (probably hundreds of thousands of listings) a great deal of grief and waisted time and lack of clarity. I am hoping eBay can get something done about this problem. I have already left feedback on the listing tool pages but have seen no changes and gotten no responses. Is a fix for this in the works? We need to get it on the radar!
The problem comes with jewelry with NO gemstones. There used to be separate categories for precious metal with and without gemstones. That has all now been combined into a single category for most all of the remaining jewelry categories. Now with these changes I can NEVER tell if I am done updating a listing because I don't and should not fill in any of the gemstone related fields! And i don't want to put "N/A" in each one as this created a huge amount of clutter and extra work. Plus I have to wade through 14 or more item specifics ALL of which would never apply if there was no gemstone in the piece. Plus plus, they are not grouped together but spread all throughout the IS section instead of grouped together in a "with stone" section.
There needs to be a toggle that when "Main Stone" specific is set to "No stone", ALL the gemstone and diamond IS fields are not shown and not marked as recommended. They should be greyed out or hidden. I could tell the listing tool "not to remind me again" but even doing that requires going through a lot of extra un-needed busy work. Maybe if the recommended count is exactly 14? But that is just silly and inaccurate. There needs to be an official way to block the stone specifics.
The loss of the "with" and "without" gemstone sub-categories has caused this huge problem and I don't feel it was thought through before it was implemented. How many thousands of jewelry sellers are struggling with or just ignoring other important specifics so they don't have to figure out what color the diamond is in their ring with NO stone? I am strongly suggesting that we get something done about this soon.
Hi @babclassics - thank you for taking the time to really look into this and detail what you're seeing and how it could be better. I will make sure that the category team gets this feedback!

That's odd then @tsme35 as we've sent two emails now. The first was on August 25th and the second was on October 27th. If there is another email address you'd like us to try, please provide us with that eBay accounts username, as we can only send messages to an eBay accounts registered email address.
Outside of that, you may want to check with your ISP and/or email provider, to make sure there's not some kind of automatic forwarding going on.

That's news to me. My understanding has always been that the tracking number has to be uploaded to the dispute regardless of whether it's already tied to the original transaction. If I remember right, the number will be shown in the dispute details once the seller uploads it, but before that point, it is actually requested (along with an option to communicate with the buyer; I do both).
While both options (Upload Tracking and Contact Buyer) are standard boilerplate, it appears that the tracking is being requested because the dispute process cannot obtain that info itself.

Area of concern. I recently sold a item. I was unaware that a user can send a message about a sold item, while it had warning on eBay message, I did not catch it later. The user was impersonating seller unless they had two accounts. The user asked to cancel or ship to another address they moved he said. I canceled order. Later realized it was from a different user. So actually contacted real buyer and explained. The buyer wants to buy again and ship to original address he said his home. This has caused incovenice for my buyer and me.. it is easy to miss a small username with mobiles and tablets. A lot of people likely don't check usernames.
I can not figure out out to report a user that contacts you to eBay, if there is no transaction.

No it doesn't as Ebay already has it. But if you have never uploaded the tracking number to Ebay, then you most certainly need to upload it.
I've done it many times. I do however contact my buyer through the claim each time too.
