Re: Community Chat, Jan 17th @ 1pm PT - General Topics

Hello - Transaction vs Unique Sale Question

According to eBay "A Transaction is a unique sale to one buyer. You could sell ten items in one sale, but it would count as only one transaction."

When I review my seller dashboard and the specific percentages and numbers associated with each seller standard, that statement does NOT hold true. An example - if you get a shipping related defect that displays 6 transactions were not uploaded in time/receive carrier scan...the reported transactions associated with the defect number and % are NOT looked at as transactions. They are regarded as unique sales, thereby causing a drop in your rating for that specific category.

This becomes rather complex, however, there is a % you must receive under this category in order to qualify for guaranteed delivery early opt in and opting in currently.

This is a baseline question for a much larger topic/discussion board topic. I will leave it at and await your reply.

Thank you.

Right now, when one does a promotion or other "sale", ebay will not allow combined shipping.  Some sellers want to do the combined shipping in addition to whatever sale there is......only way is to refund thru paypal.  Any chance of this changing?

Hi @rosevelyn, the selection of shipping supplies has evolved as we've seen which sizes in demand. As we've determined which sizes were cost prohibitive and in low demand, we made the decision to discontinue them. We don't have plans to add specific sizes right now, but we'll continue monitoring feedback going forward.

Since the beginning of this program, the envelope sizes available have remained the same.  A long time ago I suggested that there is no padded envelope properly sized for a whole range of books and other materials that sellers need to ship.  There are many types of items that are 8 1/2 x 11 [normal letter size] that sellers ship, yet there is not an envelope size to accommodate them without being too snug or too large.  Our choices are 8.5 x 10.75 or 9.5 x 13.25.

There are lots of us that could utilize a padded envelope that is 9x12.

Hi @mam98031, that's a reasonable request. I'll send this over to the team in charge of shipping supplies for consideration. Thanks!

The executive office who works for Devin Wenig would not respond to this same question. When I had an issue as a seller, all I received were CYA legal talking points. I followed up and aksed if there was still a sseller insights dept. anad I got no response.

I had that happen just this week in Phx. The item scanned 'delivered', but I still don't have it. I notified the sender, my customer and am crossing my fingers.

USPS rates increase Sunday. Soooooooo.....all Friday, Saturday & Sunday transactions will automatically calculate to the rate at which they'll actually ship on Monday, right? 🙄

With respect [and I mean that], that is what you said to me many months ago when I suggested it.

Problem: USPS page often doesn't show item scan for one or more days after it has been scanned by our local post office. This has happened to about 1 of 3 packages, so it isn't a generic problem with the way they are scanned...that's always the same.
Sometimes, the original acceptance scan NEVER shows up. The first entry under USPS tracking is when it arrives at a sorting station.
Our local post office is aware of the problem, and have started posting "USPS is in possession of this item" to the USPS site, to ensure that credit is given for on-time shipping. But this shouldn't be necessary.

Um, the "In Possession" scans are a valid alternative to "Accepted" scans and mean the same thing. A "Picked Up" scan is another indicator. Basically, any in-network scan indicates that USPS now has the package; the word "Acceptance" may not actually occur. Feel free to look up my tracking number 9405509699938102654831 on usps.com, for example (here), which was an entirely normal trip that has an "In Possession" entry up front, but no "Accepted" scan anywhere along the way.

USPS has been fleshing out the verbage of their various scans in order to better describe the details (e.g. home pickup vs. over-the-counter Acceptance), so a package should be considered as shipped (for real, not "shipped" as in "I just printed a label") as soon as the tracking shows any scan event that was performed by USPS.

I have a different request today!!! (But please don't forget that we are losing sales because buyers can't request invoice/totals for too many reasons).

When sending a message to a buyer you can only attach image formats, please consider adding PDF to the allowed file types.  When shipping labels are created, both on eBay and through 3rd party vendors they save as PDF files.  Sending a screen shot usually results in an unusable label.

If there is a concern about the amount of information restrict the file size to a reasonable amount.

I would like to have the information go through eBay messaging so I have PROOF that I have supplied a label.  Currently I'm unable to do that.

Thanks!

Hi @dtexley3, the PDF format is unlikely to be added due to security concerns, but I do have an alternative to suggest; you can send the buyer a screenshot of the the label either through eBay messaging or directly in a return request by attaching the photo to the case. This allows eBay to review the details as needed and your buyer can simply print out and adhere the label to the box.

Try again, most of the time sending a screen shot results in the buyer reporting the label will not print ledgibly.

Hi @dtexley3, it is possible that you are sending to large of a file size or that your buyer is selecting to print the label with the "fit to page" option, which would expand the screenshot unnecessarily. I speak to buyers and sellers regularly who use this method to provide a label without issue and can suggest that you troubleshoot with your buyer if they run into problems. As long as the label is legible when viewed as a photo attached to the case, you will have met your expectations in the return and we would be able to protect you if asked to step in on the case. This is the standard recommendation we provide to buyers and sellers regarding providing a return shipping label and do not commonly receive reports of issues. If you do receive these reports of problems from your customers, don't hesitate to touch base with Customer Service so the transaction can be reviewed!

This is NOT about sizes, Brian. This is a change of design to sizes that are remaining in the line. Please read the details of my post.

Re: Community Chat, Jan 17th @ 1pm PT - General Topics

Hi.

There have been several discussions on the board of previously sold items being resold again and no one having any idea how that is happening. This issue has gone on for a while based on the history of said posts.  I for one can also confirm that has happened to me several times.

I am curious what the official, transparent process is for the reporting and handling of defects and bugs. And once the defects are reported, what is the service level/time frame on confirming said defect and implementing a fix? As someone who does this exact job for a company also based in the valley, I find it troubling that the reported issues users are experiencing are either a) not being reported b) not being fixed or c) being deflected by dev as not a defect or d) shrugged off. Honestly, it is hard for me to tell which would be the answer, since there is no transparancy around this.

I am sure as these issues are posted on the board, there are many on here who would work directly with dev to give them logs or specific item numbers to assist in determining the root cause. I was just using the magical relisted items bug as an example.

Good day. New to eBay. This is what happened.  I ordered item, and didnt receive it. I opened a case and the favor was on me. The  eBay Customer support says that they refunded the price of item through PayPal last January 12,2018. But I used credit card to purchase that item. I just made Paypal account  January 16 and I checked it, the balance was (zero) 0.  What will I do?Where and how can I get ther refund?. Thank you in advance for your answers

Welcome to eBay @anthony1701! Glad you're here, and happy to help.

Typically if a refund was sent and your credit card was used it can take up to 5 business days to reflect on your card balance and up to 30 days to see the refund on a card statement. If the refund was initiated on the 12th today is the second business day. If you have not seen the refund post to you by the 22nd please reach out to customer service so they can help get you sorted. 🙂

I asked a for a reasonable credit on a bolded listing I did not choose to bold on December 31, 2017, and I could hardly believe it when someone overrided it and sent me a message that I would not receive it because I was only entitled to 1 credit during the calendar year. On New Year's eve that was done?! How rude!!!

Possibly a time zone difference affected this?

Just a thought.

As always, thanks for the reply Brian but quite honestly I am a little surprised considering all the different box sizes our main competitor ships in.  Is the alure of eBay Branded supplies waning or people just aren't using them?  I personally like them, especially since they are Free but also provide a slighlty more professional appearance.  Oh, the other advantage to using a USPS footprint is that it winds up helping the USPS cube out trucks, delivery vehicles, etc.  They are already geared for that L x W and the H would simply be a function of other Flat Rate boxes stacked (its a math thing).  I really hope the eBay Packaging Group thinks outside the box here (no pun intended ... well okay, actually it was intended and I couldn't resist) ... like rather than a 25 piece bundle costing OVER the $ 25 coupon make it 20 or 15 per bundle ... I think if they find the right mix of larger box size, bundle count, etc. demand and volume would increase and we won't have to hear the "its not in demand" reply. which sadly is what I heard last time around ...

eBay branded shipping supplies aren't waning. Since they're release we've kept on eye on which sizes sold well and which ones didn't. With that data we made the decision to discontinue the ones that weren't selling as well as we had originally hoped. Thanks again for the feedback @mr_lincoln.

Myself & several others really liked the 12x12 cube. I ran out, went to order more & they’re gone. Those boxes are da bomb, lol! I don’t have a store right now so I’m paying for my eBay branded supplies. I know, we all pay for them in one way or the other but that credit is great! Thanks everyone. I gotta get in my beautiful new kitchen & cook some dinner! Ribs & French fries for hubby & the boys, veggies for me. 🌽 🍅
