redirect to main page bug

I"m using firefox and every time for the past few weeks now, I get redirected to the main opening page on ebay.  I have to page back to get to where I originally wanted to be.  This is getting to be very irritating.   I would have thought it would be fixed by now.  This happens every time I originally go into ebay.  From a mail link or directly when I type ebay into my search bar.  How can I stop this from happening?

Re: redirect to main page bug

Are you on a desktop computer or a mobile device? Is it possible that eBay links are actually opening in the eBay app?

Try bookmarking another page and using the bookmark to get to eBay rather than typing eBay into a search bar.

Re: redirect to main page bug

This happening in chrome also. it is not a bug, Ebay changed it's home page and it has creepy a glitch it re-directs you back to it in hope of you buying something from your history. I prefer to not be watched so closely and find new things to buy on the home page. That is why they have a search

Does that happen when you are trying to list? If so, try disabling your VPN and clearing your browser history.

Re: redirect to main page bug

I found my solution .

If your browser routinely takes you to a page that you don't want to view, some preventive strategies exist to deal with the problem. Redirection is part of a website's code, and you can't completely disable it, but a workaround in your Internet settings gives you control over which redirects you want to follow. With the right settings, your computer blocks certain sites and asks for permission before redirecting.

  1. 1.

Click on the Windows "Start" button.

  2. 2.

Click "Control Panel." Several new icons appear on your screen.

  3. 3.

Click "Network and Internet," and then click "Internet Options." A new window opens on your screen.

  4. 4.

Click on the "Advanced" tab, and scroll the "Settings" box until you notice the "Security" heading.

  5. 5.

Click on the check boxes to enable the following security options: "Use SSL 2.0," "Use SSL 3.0," and "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page."

  6. 6.

Click "OK" to confirm the new settings.

Try creating new bookmarks for those pages.

Re: redirect to main page bug

I do not use the Ebay "app" nor a mobile device. I'm on a PC and this is happening in Linux Mint and the Vivaldi browser. To say it's annoying is putting it on the mild side.

They ALSO started flooding me with offers on items I do NOT have in my watchlist but on things I recently viewed. This is extremely annoying.

If these are a "marketing" ploy I'll wipe my watch list (may fix issue 1) and only view in a safe browser window which fixes issue two.

Then again, amazon fixes BOTH without any issues.

@gnappi

This thread is from 2020, and I am going to make a wild guess that your issue is not related to the original post, but has to do with something else entirely.

What are you trying to do when you are directed to the main page?

Are you trying to list? Using a VPN? Including lots of large image files?

Any difference if you try another browser? Or a different device?

They ALSO started flooding me with offers on items I do NOT have in my watchlist but on things I recently viewed. This is extremely annoying.

You can opt out of receiving offers entirely, I believe, from your Communications Preference page, but you cannot chose to get only certain offers -- it is all or nothing.

Re: redirect to main page bug

When I select messages, purchases, bids and offers, watchlist or shopping cart one out of 3 or 4 times I get redirected to Ebay's home / start page with listings displayed of items I have in my watch list.

Sounds to me pretty much what Dave78's issue is.

Re: redirect to main page bug

Chadergeist, I'm using a PC, Linux and the Vivaldi browser nothing else.

I found this:

I've camped out in my save cookies security page in Vivaldi and right after a redirect I get a self extinguishing cookie (goes away in under a minute) from addmitad.com which from what I gather is a subscription advert agency. This is the very first self extinguishing cookie I've ever seen.

Also, once just before a redirect I got a "cactus" something or other shown momentarily in my address bar also. It was too fast to get the whole URL.

I installed mintnanny and blocked addmitad.com and so far I haven't been redirected after >40 switches between  my select messages, purchases, bids and offers, watchlist and shopping cart where it was happening every few selections of the above links.

Curiously I have been regularly vexed with an Ebay "security challenge" by selecting my shopping cart (from links or the cart icon on the top of the page) and that also seems to have gone away.

It "appears as if" Ebay has subscribed / contracted with some outside agency for marketing help?

Funny I looked  again for addmitad.com and it's giving me...

This site can't be reached, addmitad.com refused to connect.

Re: redirect to main page bug

This isn't a bug, it's eBay's latest way to force ads upon you.  It happens to me, it happens not just when looking at the main page but when viewing selling details & will even kick in when changing to a different aspect of that.  I agree it is absolutely infuriating & calculated to disenchant the potential buyer who knows exactly where they want to go & doesn't want to be highjacked in this fashion.

Following the usual advice on how to avoid redirects (many duplicated the same information online) does not stop it.

It is driving me mad.

Re: redirect to main page bug

Its a **bleep** marketing tactic to try to force users to their main page.
