I agree. Its so annoying. If we wanted tabs all over, we would enable tabs in the browser settings.

The Etsy website is the same way, I thought it was a google setting issue but I don't think so, all my settings for not opening new tabs is set correctly.

I noticed that when I search for "Sold" items to see what things have sold for, those do NOT open in a new tab. They work like all of eBay used to work!
So, that got me thinking that there must be something that eBay does when a new tab is opened. For example, is it easier for them to capture who opened an item for a closer look? That may explain why I am getting way more "offers" from sellers who know that I've opened and looked at their auction item. Not sure, but that would explain why it works the old way on sold items....?
Frustrating though!

Psst Ebay,...1999 called they want their terrible user behavior web design back. Really, i thought we had evolved as a species and moved on from this rubbish.
Amazon is taking Ebays market share, and Ebay is not only letting them take it they are doing everything possible to make it easier for Amazon.

I was not having this issue with my Silk browser on my Fire tablet. I used the "Feedback" form as a search is fouled up (partially because of the way the seller is listing the items but likely not entirely.) Now I am getting this click on a listing and getting a new tab behavior on my Fire tablet as well as still having it in my PC browser.

eBay has recently added a feature to disable the links from opening in a new tab.
See here for details and pictures:

It's obnoxious as hell, and eBay needs to realize that it's wasting sellers' time to constantly have to close them. I keep LOTS of tabs open, so getting back to the tab I was actually using sometimes takes a few seconds... A few seconds dozens of times a day is a listing or two I don't get posted and that's commissions eBay doesn't get...

It's always fascinating to try to figure out what the marketing whizzes at eBay are thinking of when they make changes like this one. Who do they think it serves? It's a pain in the butt for everyone, especially buyers. Why go out of your way to annoy buyers? Why discourage buyers from shopping on your website? Why, Ebay, why? The search function is already an incredible waste of time and virtually useless at this point. As a buyer, I want to find the thing I want quickly and be done with it. Ebay discourages that completely with it's wheel-of-fortune search function, and now the maze of tabs. Ugh. I feel like I just want to buy the thing I want, and eBay wants me to be a freaking knight trying to make it across the moat, sneak past the palace guards, slay the dragon and rescue the princess before I can access the most logical response to the keywords I input into their wheel of fortune spinning, "Feeling Lucky?" search window. I really just can't measure up to eBay's expectations of me, lol. As a seller, I just see people only bothering with eBay because of supply chain issues and poverty.
