eBay search results are now displaying the generic word 'Seller' instead of the specific Seller IDs

Hello,

Starting from today ebay Search Results no longer showing Seller ID, only generic word "Seller". Is it a technical issue or intentional change? Is it a technical issue or intentional change?

Thank you.

Yes I can because since this started my sales have been cut in half wit the account the test is on. You cannot see the sales (in red buy 4 get 1 free) any longer. You do not go from 1k a day, average $800.00 a day to maybe I will hit $250 today and barely hit $500 on the days it has been run. If you want to understand my business check my videos for more answers, I share everything. The Great Reseller Life

I'm seeing the same thing in both FireFox and Chrome (tested both logged in to 2 different accounts and in incognito mode).

Every single result I saw also had the "shop with confidence" tag line (I went as deep as page 15 with 60 per page results) even ones like this that don't exactly inspire confidence with that price and 0 feedback and every possible sort option (Best Match, Price + Shipping etc) also still displays this way.

devon@ebay  kyle@ebay  elizabeth@ebay  is this a test/slow rollout that is working as intended or a technical issue?

Hey @valueaddedresource! This is a known sitewide issue and our Tech team is working on a fix. There is an open ticket under ALERT15350. We will let you and others know once it has been resolved.

EDIT: @valueaddedresource I just heard back from the Product team and this is a test that is currently being ran.

devon@ebay yikes! That's certainly not what many here will want to hear, but thanks for getting the information for us any way - I appreciate the response.

devon@ebay  in addition to the very valid points brought up in this thread about how this test does not display markdown sales, there are also some troubling reports that some sellers are incorrectly displayed with 0 feedback when that is obviously not accurate once you click through to the listing page.

The lack of transparency here is honestly astounding, especially considering how much of a negative impact displaying false 0 feedback stats could potentially have on sales - and honestly I would encourage any seller who had that happen to document it and file a report with the FTC.

How can eBay justify running these undisclosed tests and falsely misrepresenting listings as being offered by 0 feedback sellers if those reports are accurate?

FYI, this is not affecting every user or all searches, at this point.

I can still see sellers' user IDs, on two accounts, and with Edge and Firefox.

OK, that was yesterday.

Today, one account on Edge still shows adequate search information, with the seller's ID and feedback. I consider the search was competent, although best match and sponsored listings are as useless and interfering as ever.

The other account on Firefox (incognito) no longer shows adequate search information: no seller ID. The seller's feedback was still here.

I closed the window to delete cookies and history, then opened a new one and searched without logging in. The search was incompetent.

I tried logging in and searched again. The search was still incompetent.

I know you probably can't say but I'm at a loss trying to think of any possible reason for hiding seller names. Any chance of a hint?

@wastingtime101  thought you'd be interested in this - if this is an intentional change and they end up keeping it, looks like the "direct from brand" badge is going to be even more valuable.

And now that we know this is an intentional test, I also have to wonder what the FTC might think of eBay's self-preferential granting of the "direct from brand" badge to their owned-subsidiary TCGPlayer that is selling on the site in direct competition with third party sellers, with no disclosure to consumers they would be purchasing from an eBay owned company - especially considering TCGPlayer does not (to my knowledge) have any legitimate brand rights to Magic The Gathering or other products they sell. 🤔

Here is the problem. You are addressing a majority of sellers with the solution. Which is fine and much appreciated. But as in many glitches, it is buyers who are trying to search or buy our items and they are are not going to stand on their head and do cartwheels to try to fix these problems. They will just get frustrated and shop elsewhere.

I confirm that on the .ca site, I see the seller names using the exact same computer.

You need to be telling that to eBay.

To add to the list of many reasons this is bad and unacceptable - it also robs sellers who have worked to achieve and maintain Top Rated of some of the recognition and benefit of that status.

In the test, it no longer explicitly says Top Rated Plus, instead it's just the little icon next to the word "seller" and a buyer would have to hover over that icon to see a pop up explaining what it means.

This is just ridiculous. Every change that was made to eBay in the last couple of years has only been making the buyer experience worse and worse. Why not just stop making changes?
