eBay's NEW Managed Payments Checkout | MAJOR CHECKOUT ISSUES

So for weeks I have been unable to purchase anything on eBay. I've tried using card checkout and PayPal checkout to no avail. My colleagues have had the same issue. You will go to checkout with PayPal, and it repeatedly asks you to add a debit or credit card to your account ... even if one is already linked. So you go to add the new card and click "submit", then nothing happens. It is a recurring cycle. Especially on higher priced items this happens and it is impossible to get an order to go through.

Anyways, I tried to checkout again on January 26, 2019 at 1:41 AM and noticed that eBay added a whole new checkout system altogether, with PayPal NO LONGER as an option at checkout. And of course, the order didn't go through as per usual. I checked back less than an hour later and found that the new checkout system was gone? It was back to the same old one with PayPal.

I wish I had screenshot the entire checkout screen, but I only captured the header at the time. As you can see, it says: "You're checking out as part of the new eBay managed payments experience. [Learn more]" ...

Upon clicking Learn More, it linked me to this page: https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/service-and-payments/managed-payments-on-ebay.html

After doing some research, I found that literally just about everyone is unable to checkout on eBay with PayPal. See here: https://aussieservicedown.com/status/paypal

Is integration of eBay's new checkout system the reason why buyer's can't seem to purchase anything on the platform via card or PayPal at the moment? With the new checkout system in place, PayPal will no longer have ANY part in processing payments. When will this be fixed? I am sure that everyone is losing money from this bug.

Re: eBay's NEW Managed Payments Checkout | MAJOR CHECKOUT ISSUES

Hi I am sorry this is happening to you - I read elsewhere that it is gradually being implimented with some people.

Clearly this is a problem if you can't pay for your purchases or are being forced to use a cc you dont want to do.

Definitely a deterrent towards sales - As a seller, I wonder how many of us are losing a lot of business from people that are, in effect, being blocked from buying. I  would report this right away to Ebay.  First check on the string to see if you are in a beta testing for this and also ask the Ebay rep to verify it and switch you back 🙂 Good luck- E

Re: eBay's NEW Managed Payments Checkout | MAJOR CHECKOUT ISSUES

If you are still having trouble........I suggest you CALL ebay.......you can get the # from Help/contact at the top of any page.  Sometimes that link system needs to be reset, I believe, but only Ebay can do it.

On the change in payments......in general.......Ebay is switching very gradually to their own system.  By gradually, I mean only a very few sellers (out of the millions) are in managed payments at the moment.  You can tell by looking at the payment note at the top of the listing page, if paypal isn't shown........that seller is in the new system.

Presently, the new system doesn't take paypal, but will include them sometime this year.

As far as paypal being down........that link went to the Australian down check and I don't know what went on there when you  were on it........but if Paypal was down for any length of time, these boards would be lit up with complaints.........Remember, ebay sells 1000's of items every minute...........

Sorry you were having trouble and hope it gets straightened out.........
