Shipping SCAN FORM not printing

Numerous attempts to print a USPS Scan form through eBay shipping labels does not work today.  Shiptrack launches allowing me to print shipping labels in bulk but the accompanying USPS Scan Form does not appear in the printing queue.

Attempts to print by un-checking the label box (after paying of course) and print just the Scan Form also does not work.  A new eBay screen appears stating "It's not you - it's us, our servers are down, etc.  Numerous reloads of shipping does not work.  Clearing history, cookies, etc does not work.  Different browser does not work because Shiptrack will not reload labels in bulk or a Scan Form.

Post office pick up will not scan individual packages.  Scan form is required for onsite scheduled bulk pick ups.   Looking forward to wasting an hour more standing in line at the post office and listening to the clerk complain about scanning packages.

Any ETA when this glitch will be fixed???

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi @b86fiero, happy to look into this further if you can provide some screenshots of this issue. If you can share images of the process you are taking from start to finish, particularly the error message you are seeing, I can get this over to our tech teams.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous

I also experienced this twice during the past month. This isn't a new bug.  It has happened periodically over many years...sometimes once every few months, sometimes multiple times in a row, sometimes on and off for a week or several weeks, sometimes it might not happen at all for a year or more. There appears to be no common set of conditions. Unlike the OP, I've never received an error message. Tthe .pdf is generated, but the scan form is periodically missing.

I print labels every single day of the year, usually multiple times a day and I do everything the same way - there is no variance in my process. There is something in the program that causes the problem. It's not related to the browser, it can happen on any browser. Copying and pasting the address of the page from one browser to another to try again doesn't resolve the issue, clearing cache and cookies doesn't resolve the issue. Once, and only once, I left the page open all day and tried again from that same page at night for kicks. The scan form finally came up (of course it was 16 hours too late) so maybe it's a loading issue. Even when the box is checked to print one, the scan form is just not included in the .pdf and there is no other way to get one.

Requesting a scan form really isn't something that should be necessary. It should automatically generate whether you want it or not. If it's automatically generated, the seller doesn't have to print it if he doesn't want it (for some mystery reason).

I can give you steps to replicate it, but it likely isn't going to happen when dev tries it as it is a sporadic issue. But the code should be worked on anyway so that it's not possible to EVER occur. Since eBay ding sellers for not having a load of packages scanned, eBay should provide the scan form every time. The code should be written so that labels aren't generated if the scan form isn't generated so at least the seller can recreate them again without being charged and without having to individually void dozens of labels, repurchase them, and wait for two weeks to get the refund.

Here are the steps:

1. Pay for labels from eBay bulk shipping.

Capture_1.png

2. When the Print shipping labels page is displayed, the Scan form option is NOT checked (but should be).

Capture2.png

3. Check the box for the scan form and anything else you want.

capture_3.png

The resulting .pdf should include the scan form as shown below, but occasionally it is missing. All other pages are there consistently, but sometimes the scan form is not there.

capture_4.png

The two times I experienced this recently, no matter how many times I tried checking the boxes and resubmitting by click Print, the scan form would not come up.

In the past, it sometimes (rarely) would be included in the .pdf if you tried again later, but not often, so it seems to be some sort of loading issue.

Shipping SCAN FORM not printing

Thanks for all replies.  Appreciate it!

Yes,  this snafu happens occasionally to other sellers as well, as mentioned in various board posts.  In the past it resolved itself within a couple of hours.  This time it was 2 days.

I have been printing shipping labels using Shiptrack for several years.

Several times the "print scan form" box was checked on the screen after paying before I went to print - and was checked on the print screen.  Yet the scan form failed to print.

Once I cancelled all paid shipping labels for the day and tried paying for new labels with the scan form - that did not work either.  I had to wait for awhile to get my postage refunded for the first set of labels.

As this is an ongoing glitch, I thought perhaps Trinton could get the problem before the right team.  (Thanks Trinton!!  You have helped so many sellers on the weekly chat board and on the other boards when you can).

Sorry for the miss-ping.  Sometimes I forget the proper way to tag Trinton or Brian.

The printing issue has resolved itself again.  Smiley Happy

Hi @inceptions, our product teams are looking into what might be going on but I do want to provide a recommendation for the interim; it looks like you are using the old bulk labels flow.  While our product teams are investigating it might be beneficial for you to use the new label flow, found here. You won’t see any scan forms there at first, but these will appear once you have printed some labels in bulk through the new bulk label printing flow.

Scan forms are available through the new bulk flow and the functionality has been enhanced so that you don’t necessarily have to print out your scan form right after each bulk printing session.  There’s a “scan forms” tab in the upper right hand area where you can access any of the available or generated scan forms and print those out.  We are working on improving this feature in the future to also "pick up" labels that are printed individually so a scan sheet can be printed at the end of the day for all of your shipments. This is something that has been requested for a long time and while I don't have a timeframe to provide for this feature to be implemented, it is something we are excited to get out there for our sellers slight_smile

Shipping SCAN FORM not printing

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks. I meant to get back to you before now but it's been a hectic week...

I tried the new version to see what it was like, but it takes so much more time to use that I will use the old bulk label process until I'm forced out of it. I'll take my chances with the missing scan form...as mentioned, it is only an occasional problem, but when it happens, it happens multiple times (but not every time) within a period of time, so it's not really a one-off.

The grid organization in the old process makes it so much easier to use and scan through what you want to see. In the new process, there is WAY too much scrolling and clicking, WAY more steps to accomplish the same thing as in the old version. I would pull my hair out if I had to use this when printing labels for 20 -30 packages.

I attempted to give feedback using the link provided on the new page, but was cut off at 500 characters and was cut-off at one submission per day so I gave up. I can't keep coming back everyday, open an application I don't intend to use again, and provide 500 more characters of feedback. I had 3,100+ characters of feedback to provide, which would have taken 7 days. 🙁 If product management really wants feedback, it would be more beneficial to allow sufficient space to provide it. I have a few impressions that I quickly threw together after one try with the new process. I'll put them below in case you can pass them along.

  1. The grid format of the old version wasn't pretty, but it allows you to scroll through columns of information you want to see quickly. You can't do that in the new version because it's not in a grid so it's more difficult for your eyes to scan through. A grid format is much better. The grid also allows tabbing through orders which saves time.
  2. You should not have to select from multiple dropdowns to pick your shipping option. All options should be in one dropdown as in the old version. This requires many more actions than are necessary...particularly if you have many labels to create.
  3. You have to edit ship dates for each order if printing labels after the PO has closed (the old version automatically used tomorrow's date once the PO closed and knew to skip holidays) so there were rarely edits necessary if you ship within your handling time.
  4. I don't need to see photos of my items or a list of all the items in an order when I'm printing labels. If this is going to be included, then it could be shown in a link or dropdown or hover text so that it's optional.
  5. I don't need to see every insurance option. For the once every other year I buy it, I can select from a dropdown.
  6. I don't want to have to print a scan form, print labels, and print a receipt, each as a separate step. Give me one pdf as in the old version.
  7. I don't need a receipt that is pages and pages long due to the inclusion of the entire order breakdown (a receipt for two labels took up a half sheet of paper instead of the inch it takes up on the old receipt - if I print 20-30 labels at a time, the receipt could be six or more pages long instead of two). Despite the extended length of the document, the print is so small I can barely read it. I needed a magnifying glass to read the tracking # (and that's WITH my reading glasses on).
  8. On the receipt, I DO need a date and time on it so I don't have to remember to handwrite it on there.
  9. The page doesn't look like a receipt...no eBay logo...it just says Billing Summary. The old form says Receipt for Label Purchase and shows it's from eBay...with date and time.
  10. Why does a billing summary need to say...Drop off at USPS next to each transaction? Again, this is a receipt. The instructions are on the scan form, they aren't needed on a billing summary (and there is no dropping off when you schedule pickups so it's not applicable to everyone). I'm thinking that if someone can figure out how to list an item to sell on eBay and figure out how to print a label, they probably can figure out that the package won't mail itself...it has to get to the carrier some way, right? Smiley LOL).
  11. On the receipt, I also need to know what class of service I bought. I bought a Priority Flat Rate Padded envelope label, and all it says on the receipt is Priority Mail Flat Rate. I want to know which one (as it is shown on the old version of the receipt). Same with Regional Rate options (not sure what is printed for RR options as I didn't have one in my test).
  12.  When I tried to provide feedback, I was limited to 500 characters so I attempted to break it up into several submissions. However I was only allowed one submission per day.

Hope this is useful!

Hi @packsrack, I'm happy to dig into this a little further for you. I want to make sure I understand exactly what happened in this situation, so could you clarify if the scan sheet was available for you to generate and it failed when you tried, or was it simply not available when you came to print it? Additionally, can you tell me what time of day it was when you went to generate the label?

Looking forward to hearing back from you so we can get to the bottom of this!
