Hi-- Same problem as earlier-- no price or shipping costs on packing slip. This happened earlier this month, then it came back to normal. Now missing again. I heard there was a work-around, but I do not know what it is. Is ebay planning on fixing this, or is this the new packing slip ?

eBay does not do peer review or QA testing prior to releasing new code. Strange, I know, but it is what it is. As near as I can figure, the problem is the use of offshore contract programmers who are let go after the project is purportedly finished. There is no peer review or release testing. so when problems appear after release, there is no recourse, along with a mad scramble to resolve showstopper issues using different people, whoever is available this week.
This response forwarded to us from someone on the code development side via Tyler a couple of weeks ago sheds a bit more light on the root problem: no one could figure out how to add a Sales Tax entry to packing slips for which a Sales Tax had been paid:
Hi @dtexley3 - I've gotten clarification on this:
This was an intentional change. The shipping labels packing slip will soon be retired and replaced, but in the meantime we needed to remove the prices on the existing form due to discrepancies in sales tax shown (when charged).
The quantity purchased should not have been removed, but it was. We have rolled the change back to ensure that quantity of items purchased will display, which means for the time being that prices will also display.
Apparently someone has now figured out how to remove the prices without losing the Quantity value as well, but they are apparently still stumped over how to add a Sales Tax entry, so they're just going to throw out the whole thing and let the current programmers have a bash at creating a replacement.
I think what I find most galling about the whole release process here is the sheer lack of testing. New releases come out unannounced with not just subtle bugs but major whoppers, such as omissions that are glaringly obvious to anyone actually using the code for which it was intended, but seemingly not apparent to those who were tasked with writing it.
Hi @a_c_green, I want to address some of the misinformation you may have received at some point. First, we do test our and review changes prior to releasing them - as with any large scale platform, testing may not catch an issue that appears once a change goes live. This is simply the nature of our technical world, and is not an issue limited to eBay. We strive to address problems that come up as soon as possible.
Secondly, as a global company we do have developers located worldwide. These developers are available to address any errors in coding, and the "offshore contract programmers who are let go after the project is purportedly finished" perception is inaccurate for our platform.

Hi @nc-daydreamer, the price has been intentionally removed and this is not an error. We will pass along the feedback here for consideration with our future updates, but at this time the details described in this thread do reflect the intended changes. You are able to use the steps provided by @tradetopia to obtain an invoice with this information if you would like.
@Anonymous
The invoice/packing slip under the drop down choices prints no ebay logo.......there is absolutely nothing to show where the item was bought..... shows only the buyer name/seller name/transaction #, date and the costs......... so much for branding........

I appreciate the diplomatic suggestion that this was misinformation fed to me by someone else, but those were my own conclusions, based on years of frustrated observations here about how new-release coding was and was not working, coupled with my own experience of several decades in software design, release and support for a major software company that you have heard of.
We are discussing software updates that come out with not subtle errors but big ones, including some that suggest that whoever is writing the code does not actually use this site, or at best had an incomplete understanding of what the revisions were supposed to accomplish.
Adding insult to injury is a complete lack of any announcement either in advance or during the update, leading users to wonder whether the changes are accidental or intentional. This is especially true in cases where some piece of data simply disappears with no warning, such as line-item price data lost from the Packing Slips (here), or all shipping data lost from the emailed Shipping confirmation notice (here).
To your credit, your team of front-line Support folks are doing your best to find answers for us, and I want to be clear that I'm not blaming you for these software problems. For example, when the problems with Packing Slips were first reported back on May 8, you can see there that Tyler was on it within four hours, and had an answer back for the community six hours after that. The answer was not what we were hoping to hear, obviously, and the question of when the update was going to be announced never did get answered as far as I can see, but any news is better than none at all. Still, the perception remained that the update took everyone by surprise.
In contrast to that eBay upgrade, here's an update from Alan on a Community upgrade, posted on the same day as the update release itself, May 21 (here😞
> Good evening,
>
> We pushed some updates to the Community platform today.
> Here's an overview of what changed.
That opening was followed by a 5-point bulleted list that itemized each of the revisions in detail.
A day later, someone noticed a subtle omission in the attributions line of the posting threads listed on the Contents page (here), where the latest posting timestamp and user ID had gotten lost. Alan posted an acknowledgement five hours later and said he'd passed it along to the relevant people. It has not been fixed yet, but we at least have some knowledge that a fix is in process.
That initial announcement is a key difference between the Community updates and the eBay updates: there's awareness by eBay front-line people that an update is coming, and they have enough notice and detail about the update to be able to announce it and write about it (in detail) at the time it takes effect.
That, in conclusion, is what's so frustrating about the changes that turn up on the eBay site: they're unannounced, they appear to be dumped into Production with no testing, and no one seems willing to take any responsibility for either fixing the resulting errors or even outlining what they were attempting to do in the first place. There's this wall of anonymity in the eBay Engineering area that basically lets bad decisions and bad design go unexplained, unjustified and essentially unpunished, leading to poor coding and inexplicable changes that make it all the way into Production before anyone objects.
This is probably way more detail than I needed to go into for a reply in an existing thread, but this is frustration that's been building for some time, and I want to be clear that this is not any kind of unhappiness with what you, Alan, Tyler and the others are doing to assist. We're very grateful for that, and thank you.

Same here and its getting old.....
I actually check my packing slip for multi-orders, its useful to check the items off against the packing list as they go into the box....if i give a postage refund it details that too and any sales tax paid but no more. I guess i will have to hand write the bits they left off or just ship directly from Paypal as i notice their packing slips haven't been pruned to death.

Crass moronic change to the packing slips...who gets paid the big $$$ for this nonsense?
05-28-2019 04:44 PM
Why was there no notice at all given to the seller base?
Wasn't there a pledge made recently to be more transparent and upgrade communication to sellers? This seems to run counter to that promise.

What an absolute joke. You can't fix it so you remove it. Doesn't matter what any of your sellers think, as once again eBay proves it could not care less.

This is really frustrating. I can't see any reason why this would be a good thing. As sellers, we had the capability of producing a packing slip without the pricing if the buyer requested it. I want that info on my copy I keep for my records. I would think a buyer would typically want it, too. I had started a separate thread about this awhile back when it first began happening, then it stopped, and now it is back again. Please reconsider this decision.

Yep same problem here, no prices,
I am just hand writing them in
Big pain...thanks eBay

Very well put............and, needless to say, I certainly agree after crusading for years for "announcements" for this kind of stuff........things like this have to be costing Ebay in calls to CS.....beyond the Tech stuff, it's just plain sloppy management that doesn't recognize the advantage to them for announcements of this kind of thing.
@Anonymous
To add a nitpicking point ........if you click on edit on the new packing slip which has no prices, there's an option to remove the prices, really professional looking, Ebay.
It is still possible to print the old slip........see message 6..........

HI,
Same problem.
It would be nice to have a real packing slip to send to my customers.
Hope eBay Techs fix this quickly -- PLEASE!
Thanks, Amy

Once again it is obvious: eBay hates its Sellers. I don't get it.

eBay, please fix this!

Since when does Walmart not show the prices and tax you paid for products on your receipt??
So why this unnecessary change??
|What calculated reason is eBay removing this data for, that they feel the buyer doesn't need to know??
