I am not receiving emails when my item sells. Now my buyer is mad and my account has a negative balance. Is it true this is a known limitation of eBay's new payment system?
I have been selling here for 21 years. I will not be selling on eBay any longer, if this is true and this does not get fixed. Logging in every day or downloading some app to be tracked/spammed are not options I am going to deal with. There are alternatives.
I was tentatively happy that they dropped PayPal, but this is already starting out worse.
Ironically, I can check a box to receive an email when someone replies to this thread! How does that make any sense?

Yep, it's pretty stupid!
I honestly don't remember the last time we received the emailed notifications when our items sold (so it was likely years ago by now), but after the split with PayPal, we also stopped getting the emailed 'payment received' notifications, too. Which makes sense, as it was PayPal's system that technically sent those.
I tried to contact tech support about it a year or two ago, but they never figured out the reason why. Back then, those were still supposed to be options that could be enabled/disabled under user email preferences. But with the piecemeal web-code they run this billion-dollar company with, I always pondered if they maybe forgot to disable a legacy version of the original account contact information fields at some point (which likely contain our old email) and that somehow screws with the notification system. As far fetched as it may seem, I actually saw an example of it shortly after our transition to MP last September.
Before the refresh to the invoice system a few months back, the old version had redundant check boxes for which payments you accepted — cash, VISA, etc. — with PayPal having a separate entry field to input which email is associated with the PP account. Prior to MP, that field always had our correct (and current) default PP email, as reflected in our account settings.
... But after MP, that entry field somehow defaulted to an email we hadn't had access to (or used) in well over a decade. Being a redundant entry field, it didn't technically do anything... but I never found a means to make it go back to the correct email, either. It may border on a tinfoil hat level conspiracy, but the fact that some 2k Era eBay database has the potential to override my current account settings has always bothered me.

Thanks for the confirmation! STUPID!
I don't doubt your spaghetti code theory. Just trying to navigate the account settings and having the UI change often, as well as on support messages, tells me they probably have all kinds of things going on in the backend.
I looked on Seller notification settings and there are email options for everything else, except that. Maybe they turned that off, because PayPal was already sending emails and no one thought to reactivate it? Who would tell them? Support near impossible to reach.
Will someone at eBay please read this?

There are many, many threads on the message boards about this problem, and it's pretty concerning. The thing is, it's not universal. Some folks don't seem to be experiencing a problem with receiving and sending messages or email notifications. I don't know why, but if it was a universal eBay glitch then everyone would be affected or everyone using the same browser for example. There has to be something in the affected accounts causing the difference. @eburtonlab has often replied about a known extension called Grammarly that should be disabled if you are using it. It seems to quit functioning if a Chrome update is needed, or something like that. Also try different browsers. Is the problem the same whether you are using a mobile app vs on site? Have you logged out, cleared cache, logged back in and started over? Have you turned your computer off and started over? Can you contact other members by clicking on the contact link itself on their page or the order page rather than trying to reply directly to a message? Do you have the latest upgrades to everything you are using? I can only suggest trying different things to see if the cause can be isolated. Something must be different between your accounts and others' who are not experiencing this. I'm afraid I haven't been of much help, but I thought I'd just throw out some idea. It is concerning to see so many affected by this.
Oh - and do make sure you have checked your notification preferences in your site preferences communication area. Be sure that is set up right. Something you had there before may have inadvertently been removed or changed since all the updates to eBay with MP.

I doubt whether anyone on eBay staff will read this. We're mainly just sellers and buyers trying to help one another, but I have had great luck getting personal account help by going to the eBay for Business Facebook page. From there, send a private message to that board. Don't just post - send them a message. They will ask for information regarding your account and will try to help you, and they're pretty quick to respond on business days. I highly recommend trying it.

I get notifications, so am not among those that may not be getting notified, but I have had delays on occasion, (probably my email server because only on one account)so just in case, I always log into my accounts on a "daily" basis. Takes about 5 minutes out of my day to check 3 accounts.
