30 Days of listing I get "Where's all the stuff? Our homepage is down, but the rest of eBay is fine"

Fellow sellers- For about 4 weeks now this is the constant situation I have to deal with.  eBay works fine for me on all other levels all day, messaging customers, giving refunds, checking on my own bids and purchases.  But as soon as I try to list, BAM, it just shuts down....for about 10 - 20 minutes, then I can list one thing.  I try to list a similar item within minutes and sometimes I can list several things in a row then BAM shut down again for another 10 - 20 minutes.  None of this makes sense.  I use a new-ish Dell laptop, I do not have a VPN, I have Windows 11, I use Google Chrome, and every single other website I use regularly besides eBay is working just fine, this is a 100% eBay problem connected specifically to a seller attempting to list an item, maybe it is embedded in the photo uploading as part of the listing, but the whole site goes down EXCEPT the Community Boards where I can complain about it.  Many other threads about this have nice folks offering fix-its, but many have said none of the fix-its work.  The point of this is for the eBay Tech Support folks to pay attention and acknowledge that this is a problem on their end, I personally have had to forgo about a 100 - 200 listings these past weeks as it just takes too long.  I live in the SF - San Jose Bay Area near the eBay headquarters and some others have said the same so it may be specific to their local servers in the Bay Area.  But it has been ongoing for about 4 weeks and this is just tedious beyond belief, and ultimately a loss of revenue for sellers and eBay.

It may be an eBay problem, but this problem does not appear to affect all sellers listing items on eBay equally, so that indicates that there may be something a particular seller can do differently to avoid the problem.

 

If I were having that particular problem, I would try some or all of the following:

 

Try another browser to rule out a browser issue. Or try a private or incognito browser window. Unlikely that this is the issue here, but it always helps to try the easy things first.

 

Try another device to rule out a device issue. Try listing or adding photos using a mobile browser or the eBay app.

 

Try another network to rule out a network issue. Try using a mobile device when not connected to the usual WiFi.

 

If possible, try listing using a different eBay account to rule out an account-specific problem. That may not solve the immediate problem of being able to list with your selling account, but may aid in figuring out what the ultimate issue is.

 

Try disabling or temporarily replacing any privacy or security software you are using. You mention not using a VPN, but many experiencing this issue apparently are using a VPN, and at least some have had better results by turning off the VPN for an extended period when listing or editing listings. Temporarily shutting off the VPN after a problem has already occurred may not be enough. Hotspots and programs like Ghostery or Disconnect can also cause issues related to account verification, and might conceivably cause issues when listing.

 

Perhaps there is a problem that only affects a certain network provider, or a provider using certain network settings. There was a problem in the UK several years ago that prevented certain eBay pages from loading properly that turned out to have been caused by improper child-safety settings used by several network providers.

 

It might be worth trying to list in different ways -- starting a new listing using different listing tools (quick listing tool, business tool, new tool), avoiding templates or trying different templates, using "sell similar" from different listings, to see if any of these affect the problem. Try listing without photos or with minimal photos, and then try adding the photos later, using different means, using a different browser or the app.

I too, am experiencing the very same thing. I live in the Cincinnati area (Indiana actually). I can say how often this is happening, which is every hour on the hour. By the end of the day, I get too frustrated to even list a pair of doll shoes, what with all of the item's specifics that eBay commands we list only to find that the list button is not going to work. I have contacted eBay several times and have been told it works best with Chrome....WRONG. I have tried all browser's and still end up with the same problem. I use VPN for protection & am on Windows 11. I've never had this problem before. It did start about 4 weeks ago. I'm thinking about using other seller places that will not give me the same problems I keep experiencing with eBay. Plus, I hate the automated system. It is NOT a live person. The tech people need to fix this issue immediately or I'm outta here. It will be eBay's loss, not mine.

I use VPN for protection

 

That may be the issue. Most of the folks experiencing this issue seem to be using VPNs.

 

You may want to consider turning off the VPN, waiting a bit, and then trying to list.

Same situation for me.  In the Midwest, multiple computers and same issue on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.  No VPN.  App works fine.

I continue to have the same problem on and off, seems more on. If it doesn't get better, this seller will go elsewhere. I have been complaining for 2 weeks with no improvement. Using another browser does not work either.

I do have VPN and turning it off does not help.

I have had the same problem for the last 3 days. Not looking forward to more of this!!  I am in Colorado.  I have tried in both Microsoft Edge and in Firefox. I have tried clearing my cache, cookies, and browser history but that doesn't fix the problem. I have disabled all ad blockers and turned off the VPN. I have logged out of eBay and logged back in. I have rebooted multiple times over the past 3 days. Nothing works. I reported it to eBay customer service, and they told me they would "add my account to the list of accounts for this concern".  Not really encouraging.

 

I have the problem both when clicking Submit on a new listing and also clicking Save. It happens even if I try to save a listing draft that has no photos in it and minimal text, so I don't think it has anything to do with photos in the listing.  But once I get the "Where's all the stuff?" screen, I can't get to any other eBay page and have to reboot in order to get to the eBay home page or seller page again.

 

I was able to create a new listing in the phone app. But that's just not practical do to on a regular basis.

Tonight I was able to list for almost one hour straight, from 830pm to 9:30pm PST, getting 12 Buy It Now listings into my Store, then the site once again has gone to "We Looked Everywhere Where's All The Stuff?" Now it stays that way for a good 10 minutes before it decides to behave and allow me to list another item.

 

There is no pattern to this. I am being super conscientious about what pages I have open, the process of each listing, whether I "view my listing" first before going on to "list similar item" as some patterns seem probably coincidentally to work better than others, but otherwise this is just now a waste of time, instead of listing a new item every 3 -5 minutes, it then takes 15 - 20 minutes.  This is an eBay problem, there is nothing wrong with my browser, my laptop, or any other thing in my own networked system, and eBay refuses to even acknowledge this is happening to likely 1000s of users every day for a month.  Admittedly that may be a tiny number of the million or so sellers who list regularly worldwide, but I expect my monthly Premium Seller service to include the basic ability to list when I want without hassle.  It's as if the store is at a mall only I can't bring my inventory into it because the service doors are constantly closing. Very frustrating.

Came to say I am also experiencing the same problems as cinema_visions and the other users here for the past few weeks. Turning my VPN off and on does not seam to make any difference. Also using Windows 10 and Mozilla browser. Consequently, it took me nearly an hour on 1 Jun to  list a single item - quite frustrating and not a good use of time.

This has been happening to me too.  I have tried Chrome, Edge, Firefox. VPN on or off,  cleared cookies and cache,  tried laptop, desktop, logged out of eBay and logged back in and rebooted my laptop.  NOTHING makes a difference.  I am going to have to move back over to etsy, I depend on the money I make from ebay to pay bills and if I can only list 3 items over the Entire Memorial Day weekend,  that's a problem.  I sat here yesterday and was only able to list 2 items all day.  For the fees we pay for the service,  this is very poor management of their platform.

Same problem with or without a VPN.  5 failed attempts for 1 listing. 

eBay please step-up.

Same problem here for the last month or so. Seems like i can upload photos through the app to my phone or Ipad and finish the listing fine. Then I can go back in on my laptop (only a year old) and make revisions. Very frustrating since I would like to just do the listings on my laptop.
