30 Days of listing I get "Where's all the stuff? Our homepage is down, but the rest of eBay is fine"

Fellow sellers- For about 4 weeks now this is the constant situation I have to deal with.  eBay works fine for me on all other levels all day, messaging customers, giving refunds, checking on my own bids and purchases.  But as soon as I try to list, BAM, it just shuts down....for about 10 - 20 minutes, then I can list one thing.  I try to list a similar item within minutes and sometimes I can list several things in a row then BAM shut down again for another 10 - 20 minutes.  None of this makes sense.  I use a new-ish Dell laptop, I do not have a VPN, I have Windows 11, I use Google Chrome, and every single other website I use regularly besides eBay is working just fine, this is a 100% eBay problem connected specifically to a seller attempting to list an item, maybe it is embedded in the photo uploading as part of the listing, but the whole site goes down EXCEPT the Community Boards where I can complain about it.  Many other threads about this have nice folks offering fix-its, but many have said none of the fix-its work.  The point of this is for the eBay Tech Support folks to pay attention and acknowledge that this is a problem on their end, I personally have had to forgo about a 100 - 200 listings these past weeks as it just takes too long.  I live in the SF - San Jose Bay Area near the eBay headquarters and some others have said the same so it may be specific to their local servers in the Bay Area.  But it has been ongoing for about 4 weeks and this is just tedious beyond belief, and ultimately a loss of revenue for sellers and eBay.

Hi,  Here in N.J. we have also had that problem.  As per a "Community" suggestion we cleared our cookies - restarted our desktop & turned off our VPN.  Worked out fine.  Turned our VPN back on later that nite & things have remained A-Ok since.  Worth a try..........Good Luck!  (J.B.)   Oh, We are still Windows 10 - Edge.

I've been experiencing the same thing on the website for the past few weeks. At first, it only affected certain listings, and only when I edited them. I had read somewhere that disabling my ad blocker could fix the problem. It did--for a time.

Now, I cannot create a single listing on the website; the site "crashes" every time. I have tried on Chrome, on Edge, on an incognito tab in Chrome, nothing works.

I wanted to reach out to the customer service, but the only thing I could reach was the chatbot, which of course did not help me.

 

I'm using a ten-year-old laptop, Windows 10, Chrome or Edge, no VPN, and use the wi-fi at the public library.

Not to repeat everything that has already been said but Im having the same problem as everyone in this thread. NO VPN. Ive listed the same item 4 times unsuccessfully this morning and each time it goes to the white screen and then the Home Screen of "where's my stuff" Has Ebay addressed this issue?

I'm using a ten-year-old laptop, Windows 10, Chrome or Edge, no VPN, and use the wi-fi at the public library.

Is it possible that your public library's WiFi is using a VPN, a hotspot, or some sort of privacy software that is causing problems when listing with eBay? Are you able to list successfully using a non-public network or a different public network?

I do not know if my library is using some sort of privacy stuff, I'm ignorant in those matters, and I can't ask now. However, I must add that I have been able to create one listing today at the library, while the conditions were exactly the same as when I could not. I tried to make another listing after that, and the site crashed again.

I have had the same problem on my computer at home, when I tried to create and also to edit listings, while accessing the internet via my mobile phone's data connection. And on my phone itself too, same problem while trying to edit listings.

I am having the same problem! I have been so frustrated, I just haven't listed anything new in over a month. Today I decided to try it again on my HP Computer, same situation. Freezes up, then we looked everywhere, then where's all my stuff. I realized even though it froze up, it automatically saves a little of what you have entered, in draft. So I then went on my phone opened drafts & finished it there. I'm not going to do this all day! I was going to call but I didn't feel like being on the phone for an hour with no results. Plus it seems like they always act like its just you having the problem when you call. They know darn well there's a big issue with hundreds of complaints a day on this. There is a big problem & until they fix it they are going to lose a lot of money.

I called about it a few days back. It isn't just you, rep said they had an open tech ticket and we're looking in to it. I've used the same computer for 9 months and it just started about a week and a half ago. I don't use a VPN. There is no shortage of people having the same issue. It's just one of multiple tech issues right now.

This problem for this seller is still occurring on June 8. Mine happens when trying to change shipping from "calculated cost" to "flat cost" on a listing and it just freezes, won't allow you to save the draft or do anything. Refreshing the page throws the "Where's all the stuff?" error page, when you click on "Help" that page is 404. I even open a new browser window and go externally to ebay.com and it says "Our homepage is down but the rest of eBay is fine" we will have it back up in a moment. FRUSTRATING as bloody hell.

I'm having the same issue as all the others that posted on this thread.  It has been happening for about 4 weeks. Maybe a little longer.  I am located in mid Ohio.  I did figure out the 2 open tabs trick, and that has allowed me to post some listings, but not nearly what I would like to.  Thinking it could be a computer issue, I went out and purchased a new laptop.  Still have the same issue with the new laptop.  Today, I can't list at all. It's been a little over 2 hours attempting to list an item with no success.  It's looking like I won't be having any auctions this week.

Yesterday when it happened again I tried searching for items and that was also not working. So when it says the homepage is down but the rest of eBay is working isn't true.

eBay is not going down -- neither the home page or any other page is actually down despite the message you are seeing. This can be confirmed by viewing a site like downdetector.

Whenever eBay is actually down, there are hundreds or thousands of reports within minutes.

 

Something about the way you are listing your item is causing your individual connection to eBay to be interrupted or blocked, but eBay is still reachable for everyone else while that is happening to you.

I've changed nothing about the way I list and this all started weeks ago. There are lots of people experiencing the same thing. Posts on eBay community, Reddit and eBay down detector show it's not just me or a handful of sellers.

If it's the "way" I'm listing then why would search not work at all? When this happened yesterday search stopped working also. Search and listing are 2 separate things.

Just because you have changed nothing does not mean that nothing has changed. The problem may well be due to something that eBay did, but the point is that it is not affecting everyone equally, and many are apparently not affected at all. Some users are able to list without any errors or interruptions. Perhaps the difference is due to something entirely out of your control such as your geographic location or your network provider or the eBay server you are connecting to; but perhaps there is something you could do differently to avoid the errors.

 

There are lots of people experiencing the same thing.

 

Yes, but each one is experiencing the problem independently. Your connection does not go down at random or when someone else lists an item -- it only goes down when you are listing an item -- and not every time, apparently. Perhaps listing in a different way can avoid the errors.

It seems that once an affected user lists and get that error message, some aspect of that user's connection to eBay may be interrupted or blocked -- but that is just the connection for that one user, not everyone else. Something on the user's end or with the particular way an item is being listed may be triggering some sort of security feature on eBay's end that is not otherwise triggered for other users.

 

When this happened yesterday search stopped working also. Search and listing are 2 separate things.

 

Both of those depend on having an open connection to eBay that is not being blocked, which can apparently be affected by your listing, revising or editing photos.
