Forcing you to give your checking account with routing number and Social Security number . I am not a big seller I just sold a few things I never used that I had then eBay locked my account AFTER selling some stuff saying I had to update my account. I refused to give my private information. I called eBay and of course I was tossed around from one person to another. I asked them why PayPal doesn’t ask you that kind of private information they allow you to use your bank card like a credit card and do two small deposits with one withdrawal to verify. If you are a business they only require your EIN number. Never do they ask you for your private information. Brittany from eBay the last woman I was talking to said well PayPal is a Financial company and a eBay is a market place. Ok so that supposed to make me feel comfortable giving Them my private information? That is supposed to tell me it’s Secure to do so? I had to ship the stuff I sold to the people because I’m not a jerk but eBay won’t give me my money. I told Britney I was deleting my account she sent me the link. Once I know the people received what they purchased ( because I’m honest) and want to make sure they got it even though it cost me money. I WAS a victim of fraud twice. My SS# was stolen and it ended up freezing my tax returns and the second time I had my bank account drained. I was told by the police to NEVER give your SS # out other than in person and never give your routing # out unless it’s in person or a government site which have very high security and Only if you need to exp: direct deposit tax return. I have never given it out since. There is NO good reason eBay needs that. They have documentation they took the sales tax out. Personally I think anyone that got ripped off by eBay and they will not give them their money back need to get together and sue eBay.

Perhaps those in USA were required to give PayPal a SSN, but there are many of us from outside the USA that NEVER gave such info to PayPal as our country only requires GOVERNMENT agencies to have our SSN. We are NOT req'd to give a SSN to anyone else for ANY purpose, nor is it ever recommended that we do so.

yep, did likewise...I sell on another site where I can still use PayPal as payment processor so I don't give a rat's ass what eBay does anymore...

I'm unsure of your comment. If you don't have an SSN, then of course you can't supply that. Ebay has different rules on international sellers, so you will need to consult those rules to find out what you are required to supply and what you are not required to supply.
I know you know that this is the US site and most comments are in relationship to US rules.

Except that will change at some point. When MP figures out what they need to do to comply with your countries rules / laws, then it will be coming to you too. Just as for other international sites Ebay has they have changed the payment processor from Adyen to Payoneer so they will comply with that particular countries rules.

LOL! now there's a good laugh...
good luck with applying that to my online selling ...
VERY doubtful anything like that will come of it in my online selling lifetime...
I doubt there are many "rules" that apply to a seller who sells less than $300 per year!
and the smaller sites are years away from such action...

Interesting.
I'm not trying to apply anything. This is Ebay's site and if they want to implement their own payment process on the site, they have every right to do that within the laws and regulations set for that they must comply with.
You know, like Amazon, Etsy, Mercari, etc. all have their own payment processes.
I have no idea what the particular requirements are for Canada. Possibly someone else does.

sorry, but asking for your SSN, birthdate, account #, routing# and giving them direct access to withdraw from your bank account is too much - this goes way beyond what is required for tax reasons or legal requirements for a business to sell something legally in this country.

You are slightly misinformed.
SSN - MP only asks for the last 4 digits.
Birthdate - that info is already on your account. It was required when you joined Ebay in the first place as you have to be at least 18 to have an account.
Bank Routing Number - This number isn't secret. It is public information. Anyone can get it if they want it. And many bank sites actually state their routing number on their websites.
Bank Account Number - If you have ever written a physical check, at that time you gave that person or company your bank routing number and your checking account number without a thought to any issue.

and as I indicated previously, I no longer have any invested interest in what eBay does, nor do I have any interest in sites like Amazon, Etsy, Mercari, etc where I don't sell & have no interest in selling on those sites....
and some of us haven't written checks in years/have no interest in opening a bank account just for eBay...
Sellers have choices and those choices go well beyond eBay and similar sites...

Then why did you even join the thread? If it doesn't matter to you, why did you post?

Managed payments was announced several years ago. You would have also received an alert on your account at least a few weeks before your registration deadline. You had a choice to take down your listings to avoid selling things after the deadline and have your money locked up.
Perhaps a local venue where you get cash on pickup is a better fit due to your hesitation about providing your SSN. Nearly every venue I sell on intermediates payments and requires either a SSN or EIN.
not picking on you but just have seen several people here say we had to give paypal our ss#...I NEVER did .
They wanted me to if I opted for a cash account which I didn't, mainly because they wanted my ss # !
Perhaps if you took in 20K or more then you had to give it to them then but I never did , not in one year for sure.

I am in the same boat regarding having a PO Box for all my info. Driver's license, IRS address on file, banking address, etc. The USPS does not even go down our road.

I finally got a bank account I can use so I went through the process today. It did force me to change my registration address from my PO Box to my physical address. The physical address will show up on my driver's license but not on any bank statements and heaven forbid if eBay ever tries to send me something through the mail to that address as that would get returned. I'm not sure they are smart enough to use the shipping address which is my PO Box.
