Forcing you to give your checking account with routing number and Social Security number . I am not a big seller I just sold a few things I never used that I had then eBay locked my account AFTER selling some stuff saying I had to update my account. I refused to give my private information. I called eBay and of course I was tossed around from one person to another. I asked them why PayPal doesn’t ask you that kind of private information they allow you to use your bank card like a credit card and do two small deposits with one withdrawal to verify. If you are a business they only require your EIN number. Never do they ask you for your private information. Brittany from eBay the last woman I was talking to said well PayPal is a Financial company and a eBay is a market place. Ok so that supposed to make me feel comfortable giving Them my private information? That is supposed to tell me it’s Secure to do so? I had to ship the stuff I sold to the people because I’m not a jerk but eBay won’t give me my money. I told Britney I was deleting my account she sent me the link. Once I know the people received what they purchased ( because I’m honest) and want to make sure they got it even though it cost me money. I WAS a victim of fraud twice. My SS# was stolen and it ended up freezing my tax returns and the second time I had my bank account drained. I was told by the police to NEVER give your SS # out other than in person and never give your routing # out unless it’s in person or a government site which have very high security and Only if you need to exp: direct deposit tax return. I have never given it out since. There is NO good reason eBay needs that. They have documentation they took the sales tax out. Personally I think anyone that got ripped off by eBay and they will not give them their money back need to get together and sue eBay.

You are simply making assumptions. It would make no sense at all to move the money out of the US to only return the money to the US a day or two later.
There are lots and lots and lots of foreign companies that operate in the USA.
But clearly you have made your decision on what is happening, even if it defies logic, you have the right to your opinion.

yea get this people leave with there money move to Europe to save money from us not get docked for everything you had millions you would have in off shore accounts so you dont get taxed from the us think about that 1

living in the united states you get taxed more then any where in the world ...................smart move let a company not in the United States handle the money ..........

I have been using PayPal for a very long time now and I have never given them my Social Security number and I’ve never given them my banking information.
(I mention this because somebody previously said PayPal required that from them as well so why should it bother you but they never required it for me and I still have a very good standing account with them.)
as mentioned by the OP I have been directed by several financial managers to never give out my Social Security number and I will not do so for something like this. Even when you have something medical done you are not required give them your Social Security number, that’s what your insurance number is for.
I do not so many things either but occasionally I do thin out my collection or find things I don’t need anymore and this requirement will definitely have me thinking twice on whether I continue to use eBay as a platform or not. I could just as easily use OfferUp or something else instead. It might not get the exposure that eBay does but I have a feeling they’re going to lose a lot of sellers over this.

PayPal is never asked me for my Social Security number.
maybe I joined them before they asked for it and I was grandfathered in or something but I do not have mine.

But other places I pay don't have the right to withdraw money from my checking account. What happens if they empty my account? I have to file a claim, go to court? What about all my bills in the mean time? When they charge my card I have time to react and there are protection limits. If they empty my bank account I'm screwed. I understand, though don't like, the SS number, big brother is watching. But going to/from my checking account directly, he!! no. Guess I might just have to let them keep my money, but I will never use eBay again to buy or sell.....on second thought I think I'll file a small claims case against them and see where that goes, that's only the filing fee...I think $25.

I don't think I understand your opening statement. If you can't withdraw money from your checking account, doesn't that defeat the purpose of a checking account? I've never heard of such a thing. If you have this issue, I'd find a different bank.
Why would they empty your account? Do you get a lot of returns? Keep a cushion in your account to cover what an average return would be. Or most banks offer overdraft protection, you could sign up for that. Manage your MP account. You can see the details 24/7 in the seller hub under the payment tab. If you have a negative balance in you MP account you do have time to react if you are actively managing your account. And don't ignore emails from Ebay / MP.
Don't tie MP to your personal checking account. Open a new one to link it to. That keeps things cleaner and much easier to account for your money.
Why would you do that? Let MP keep your money? If you can't afford to wait a few days for your money, how does giving it away help? I get it that you don't like MP but I'm not sure how this approach helps you at all.
You may want to read the User Agreement that you agreed to on Ebay when you became a user. You may find it enlightening regarding filing a claim against them.
What about your bills. If you are selling just in the nick of time to pay your bills, then MP will be very problematic for you since the money isn't instant.

not going sell on eBay anymore then because I’m not giving them my bank account information sense they are not a financial institution or a bank . I feel way safer using PayPal ! This sucks n they if you only sell here and there live on low income it won’t be worth it anymore to sell on eBay coz everyone will know your business n how much money you make maybe that’s what they want to do so small businesses will get out . yes! Sounds good to me ! And I can see more sellers using Facebook market place too coz that’s where the world is going , through social media. Plus like you said no shipping cost etc and no middle man like eBay to pay fees to. I also don’t agree with how they charge me a fee on flat rate shipping either when that is the amount I have to actually pay but when they take a fee from my shipping then I have to pay out my own pocket the difference I lost in shipping fee they took from me. And that’s not fair either

Fees on shipping has been around for over a decade now. Old news. It is not Ebay's fault that you don't charge a handling fee to cover your costs on shipping. That is on the seller. You have every right to charge a reasonable handling fee. So that is in your hands not Ebay's.
Facebook is an alternative for casual sellers. I hope you do well.

You do know that Ebay and PP have basically the same security system on their sites. Ebay owned PP until mid 2015. Oh and PP is NOT a "financial institution" either nor have they ever been one.
And what is what I highlighted about? Who is "everyone"? Or is it your concern that any state or federal agency that some may be getting benefits from may find out they have a little side business? Income they haven't been claiming?
It is doubtful that this would harm you looking at what you have sold in the last 90 days. It is likely you are fine.
As to your checking account. This isn't Top Secret information in the first place. Bank routing numbers are actually public information. Anyone can get it and they don't even have to have a reason to want it. Many banks actually state their routing numbers on their websites.
Have you ever written a physical check and gave it to anyone or company? If so, on that check is your routing number and your checking account number. Each and every time you do that it gives this information to whomever you submit it too. Just sayin!

But why can't I BUY something using my CC that is in place?
04-27-2021 06:27 AM
This is so sad. Nope. I just ended all my listings. I loved ebay until this inssuportable decision of theirs. I'm actually surprised this hasn't made national news there are so many subscribers that are affected. I just was listing a few household things since my husband passed. Also enjoyed browsing and buying some specialty items. I was just shocked ebay thinks they could do this. That's why we have cc and paypal which already has all the info neccessary. Bye Bye ebay, it's been fun 😪
04-27-2021 07:27 AM
I believe things can still be purchased in the usual manner (cc or paypal) as a guest but not if you have an account. Correct me if I'm wrong.
