Please explain this to me if you can

So I haven't sold on ebay for over a year. This new ebay is fine, I don't care if I have to wait for a few days to get paid... I know I pay seller fees... However there is the thing I need help with that customer service couldn't be clear on. So please read if you can.

I recently sold after fees $3600 (it's correct in my pending amount, I did the math myself to make sure on the fees page) okay that's fine and dandy, I'm use to ebay fees. Now I have approx $1050 in shipping that needs to go out (huge heavy lots of items in big boxes), so in my sold page it says sold $5000 some odd number sold (this was all in one day, the only amount sold since last year). Okay good that makes sense it includes the shipping, also the math add up and that makes, that's the amount I sold plus shipping. Good great I'm fine with this. My issue is where is the shipping money in my pending amount of the approx 3600? If it's set aside and I just can't see it okay fine. Is that the case? customer said no. So thats one big issue if what customer service said is right, that the shipping will be deducted from my pending amount which is just the item sold minus the fees.

The other issue is last time I sold stuff I went down to the post office office paid them because I live in a rural area and we don't have a computer, we don't have high speed Internet and we don't have a printer, I list on my phone only. I wasnt aware when I listed stuff again after a year it was going to be an issue.  After being told the shipping will come out of my pending money which was a surprise to me considering the disparities in math I'm very concerned I should just cancell all the purchases.  Because if I'm only left with $2500 after selling fees and shipping, then were is the rest of the $5000 some odd that is showing as my sold amount which os correct after fees plus shipping? The fees and shipping do not come to $2500 some odd dollars. Who would continúe to sell on here of that was the case. It never was before, even after paypal fees back in the day I would have paid less in fees.

If the shipping is not coming out of the pending $3600 and it's floating out in shipping label land, how do I get it to ship? Is that whats going on amd customer service was just confused? Customer service cannot seem to answer this for me after calling twice. So please help. Everything I read in the forums I could find says the money is in your pending money, but with the large amount of shipping and costs I have with shipping large lots that is glaringly not possible, you may be able to hide $5 shipping, but you can't smudge out $200 in shipping. How do I resolve this? Anyone with experience? Thanks

@coronetweeds

When the buyer pays, the funds go to your Managed Payments account, item and shipping charge.

Some sellers use the pending funds to pay for the shipping when they buy their labels through Ebay.

If you don't buy your labels through Ebay, the funds for the shipping will be sent to your checking account along with the funds for the item, after the fee's are removed.

Have a great day.

Re: Please explain this to me if you can

Thank you for answering. Just to clarify, the pending amount will be deposited eventually like scheduled (the 21st let's say). I have until the 24th to ship let's say (handling time 4 days), so when I go to ship later in the week if I find a way to ship through ebay the shipping comes from my account on ebay still, and not my bank account directly? And if I go to the post office and use my bank account/debit card, ebay will eventually release the shipping into my bank account? Once delivered? Or maybe once the package is scanned? Thank you if you can clarify this too.

I'm just asking because I can't seem to find this managed payments account page on ebay that shows anything. I'm on a mobile device using desktop mode because my mobile account is stuck on the old format.

The information is there.  Go to your Seller Hub.  Hover over the Payment tab.  A drop down menu will appear and there is a great deal of information available to sellers.  Try the summary page for the basic details we all need to be aware of on a daily basis.

The following links are very informative and easy to read. Lots of great information in these articles that contain information you should be aware of. After you read them you will likely have questions. Come on back and ask whatever you need to.

Re: Please explain this to me if you can

I still can't find a clear answer to my question. I'm trying to clearly rebuke customer services statement that my shipping is coming out of my pending earnings, regardless of how I ship, and there are no other funds they see except the pending. If I sold 5000+ some odd including shipping and I ship from my pending of 3600, I do not see a clear reference to where and how the shipping amount gets used or is waiting anywhere on my seller pages. After my conversation with customer service it made me extremely worried. Sorry if this is just repeated, but I don't want to not only spend time driving 4 hours to ship items with a printer, but also have to pay over 1000 dollars in shipping that people paid for fpr no reason. Thank you for answering.

Re: Please explain this to me if you can

Just checking to see if I understand your question..

The buyer paid about $5000 for the item plus shipping.

Your pending funds are showing as $3600 and you are asking if that amount would include the shipping amount the buyer paid?  The answer to that is yes, your pending funds should show everything that you will be receiving.  If you buy your label through ebay before those funds are deposited, then you would receive 3600 less the  cost of shipping.  If you ship the items outside of ebay the whole amount will go into your bank account.  There are NO amounts set aside for shipping.

But it sounds as if you are questioning the amount that is pending...that is isn't enough if that money also has to include the cost of shipping...is that right?  When you say that the total was around $5000 did that amount include the sales tax that the buyer paid? Keep in mind that your fees are based on the total amount that the buyer paid including shipping and sales tax.   But then the tax is taken out so you won't see that in your pending funds. If that $5000 included tax, that might explain the big difference between that amount and your pending funds.   I don't know if that helps you or not but if I'm way off, you could also give us the amounts that the buyer paid for tax, shipping and purchases and someone here could probably help you.

Off topic...I don't know which service your buyer chose for shipping but if you are using Fedex or UPS which would be less expensive than USPS, you would be better off to open an account with one of them and ship direct.  I wouldn't buy those labels through ebay those two couriers have surcharges which you may not be able to see when you print the labels. You would be billed for those later on.

When you create a shipping label in Ebay's label system you have the option of having it taken from your MP account or you PP account.

If you chose your MP account, the funds are removed from your AVAILABLE funds.  If you have no Available funds, the system will allow you to still create the listing and pay for it through your MP account as long as you have PENDING/PROCESSING funds.

Once the Processing funds clear they will move over to the Available funds and take care of any negative balance you may have.

This process describe above is ONLY for shipping labels created through the Ebay shipping label program.

What method of shipping / carrier are you wanting to use?  That is important as some don't charge immediately to your MP account.

Re: Please explain this to me if you can

So I sold 4000 approx in sales  not including shipping or fees. With

shipping it's 5000+ that's the sold amount including shipping because all the shipping paid is approx 1000 (this is 23 heavy lots). Now after fees not including shipping cost (which ranges from 25 to 200 a lot in shipping), it shows up the as approx 3600 which.is correct after fees, but I'm missing the shipping which comes to an extra 1000+ dollars. I know ebay fees and tax, and it shouldn't take 2500 dollars out of 5000 sold including shipping. Which the 2500 amount I'd be left with agfter shipping everything if I used the amount in my pending money. So I'm trying to understand how I sold 5000 approx including shipping, and I'm left with 2500?

Now if you don't Include the shipping amount which is approx 4000, it shows 3600 approx after fees, which is the only amount pending, but the buyers all paid for shipping already (which makes the amount 5000 which does show, and the fees don't add up to the approx 1400 that has been take out of my pending amount compared to my sold amount including shipping. I feel like I'm making it more confusing. I've been dealing with ebay and PayPal fees for years now, amd I've never seen this much taken. I would not be selling on ebay if the fees taken out are nearly 33 percent. Are the fees and tax now 30+ percent of the amount sold?

Thank you for answering though, I do appreciate it! Customer service has been no help.

Re: Please explain this to me if you can

To simply, and this is the only thing that matters.

Gross Sales is $5k (shipping included). With sales tax, assuming all sales were the highest percentage (just to cover); would be $5500. 12.55% of $5500 would be $690. Ebay then pulls those Sales Tax dollars immediatly.

So, $5500, minus $500 tax, minus $690 fees- would leave you $4310.

Out of that $4310, you pay for all shipping- whatever the cost. Ebay doesn't care where you buy they shipping and does not hold that shipping amount for you. It is all clumped together with item purchase.

What's left is whatever is left after you pay for shipping.

OK then know that UPS and Fedex is not taken from your MP account immediately.  It is not deducted until the carrier verifies that your information on the label is correct.  Also USPS if you are using the Standard International Shipping program.

There are reports, detailed reports that you need to look at to tell you what you are seeking.  We can't explain it here as we can't see the details of your account.  Go to your Seller Hub and then hover on the Payment tab.  A menu will appear and you have a variety of things to look at.

Just looking at your sold listings, your shipping amounts you are charging your buyers, some are about half of what you sold the items for, others are closer to 75%, some are about 100% of the sale price, some are about 25%.  From what I see on your sold items it is very possible that you are running an average of around 50% in shipping costs.

You need to look at your detailed reports available to you if you want the actual answers to your questions.
