I sold a LOT on Ebay years ago, but have been almost totally inactive (in selling) for years. I don't ever remember an issue with a non-paying buyer from back then so I'm kinda lost. How long do you normally wait for a buyer to pay? Today marks the fifth day after auction end. He bid within minutes of the auction ending so he had to know pretty much immediately that he won it. In addition to the contact Ebay made with him, I have sent him two messages and an invoice over the past five days. Last night, he finally contacted me and said he was away on a "field trip" and just got back and will "make a payment soon". Does it sound like I'm dealing with a kid here? I've asked him to define "soon" but have not heard a word. Am I within my rights to cancel his auction and relist it . . . .or, should I wait a bit?

After 4 days of nonpayment, the seller can now cancel, citing nonpaying bidder.
Transaction is cancelled, seller gets refunded FVF, buyer has a strike, seller is free to relist.
No reason or need to send additional invoices. He got one with the purchase and eBay sends a reminder.
Furthermore, may I respectfully suggest you, as a returning seller, read all the information about selling as if you are new. There may have been several changes that you need to know about and understand in order to be successful here.

Once you have canceled for non payment add that buyer to your blocked list. Block buyers from your listings | eBay

"Today marks the fifth day after auction end."
Then at (or anytime after) the minute that the Auction ended, you're free to cancel the order, citing 'Buyer didn't pay'.
It is the best way to protect all us sellers the most. Thanks for asking and good luck to you.

Just found this old post, but have to ask: Pretty sure a seller cannot cancel the order one minute after the end of the auction, unless you are referring to a listing with IPR?
