eBay is a major player in the secondhand sale market and is an integral part of moving merchandise for a seller. However, I'm really getting tired of eBay's managed payment policies. Once again a buyer opened a return. Apparently they purchased a gift and the recipient didn't want it. So now after almost the 30 day return window they decide to return.
Here's the problem, managed payments is withholding my funds from future payouts in the amount of this transaction, which is well over $ 2,000. In my opinion this is an unethical policy and I'm a Top Rated Seller for a reason. I deliver exceptional service and I will refund my customer, once I get the item back in its original condition. So the buyer has until February 17th to return this item and 2 business days have passed by and they have yet to return it. So my funds from future sales are on hold until they return the item an I issue a refund.
Does anyone else agree with this, as unethical business practices on behalf of eBay's managed payments?
I sell on Mercari, Offer Up, and Poshmark, and they don't have these policies in place for returns.
I believe in order to be taken seriously we would have to get over 500,000 sellers or more to boycott eBay. That's the only manner we can be heard. Until then, if I decide to boycott along with a few others, nothing will be done, we are replaceable and expendable.

I am on managed payments, and I agree. I have been scammed by a Chinese buyer for over $1300.00. He has scammed the last 5 sellers. Which have all warned other sellers with feedback. However, Ebay still has not closed his account, which is shocking to me. So all the funds are being held from my account. Yet it has been 2 weeks, and nothing has been done. One seller he also scammed never got the item, and he was refunded all the money. So this Chinese buyer has the item and also has his money back. She contacted me and told me most likely, I will not get my money back. Or the item back. This is not the first time this has happen to me. In response to managed payment. Ebay can simply resolve payment time. By allowing sellers to use their debit card. Which would increase payment transfer time.

I'm on the fence still about leaving eBay or not. Besides that point, did you ship on your own behalf to China or did you use the global shipping program? I ask, because I use the global shipping program and once it hits Kentucky, then it is no longer my responsibility as to how the item gets to the buyer.
However, if you used the global shipping program and were still scammed, then now I'm definitely on high alert.

Thank you! The eBay door closing has opened bigger revenue streams for me with less hassle.....should have done this years ago and saved myself the scammers and conartists that seem to lurk around posing as buyers only to try and rip sellers off....take care and thanks for you comments!

Best to understand this site and how payment works. When you do local sales and get paid upon delivery it isn't an issue and fees are charged. But the same is NOT true when the site processes your payment and/or you have to ship the item. Those rules are far more difficult to deal with than those in MP.

I agree 100% and i have been waiting 11 days for my money from 2 small sales on Ebay due to this new MP garbage! Ebay has been dishonest in the past but now they don't even care that we see clearly how crooked they are!

That happened to me and yes, I agree ebay managed payments is not ethical and should not be handling ppls money. It’s only a matter of time before a major lawsuit is opened up against them regardless of any policy they may have . Ebay managed payments is to far far below the industries standards in the industry of handling ppls money, You will probably get a response from a particular member that will wave a policy in your face trying to intimidate you making you believe just because ebay wrote some policies there is noting you can do but that’s simply not true … it’s some member with a picture of cats in the ID photo . Ignore it … ebay was sued more than once and lost and as a result, their policy thrown out by a judge .

I already closed an account and am in the works of placing my items elsewhere. I was forced into it so I had a chance to experience the abomination of what they call a legit payment processing system. It’s not what they advertised and the ebay managed staff doesn’t have the standard of ethics that is required to handle ppls money as that’s been on display for quite some time now. They owe sellers in damages for a faulty glitchy system and unacceptable excuses that would never fly in any kind of legitimate payment processing service . I do not care if other selling sites have higher fees , or if I sell less on another site , at least they can be trusted handling your money. I found that I can never ever trust what any of the managed payments staff says regardless if they are just not qualified for their job handling ppls money, they lack maturity, and most important, the level of standard of moral ethics in the industry . It’s the worst thing I have ever seen and heard of what is coming out of their mouths . It’s only a mater of time before a lawsuit is set in motion regardless of any policy ebay wants to create. All I know is that if ebay has to write policies like they aren’t responsible for their own ebay managed payments employees misinformation and damages they cause sellers due to their faulty system , that’s theirs and theirs alone problem and no such policy will stand as has been proven in lawsuits ebay has lost over their policies .

Thanks . That’s good info . I wasn’t sure where to move my products …I saw something about Walmart too and it looks Mercari has come up a few times . I am going to cross sell and just eliminate ebay eventually. I don’t care if I have to pay higher fees as long as I am in the hands of a company that has the ethical mind-set of the standards in the industry. Ebay does not and has fallen too short too many times. However ebays managed payments needs to be held accountable for the damages they did to me and many other sellers using the excuse of a glitch to hold up my money for 5 weeks. No such company , regardless of any policies they write can do what ebay managed payments is doing legally …regardless of any policy ebay wants to create . They have been sued before and lost over unethical polices dealing with ppls money. Their policies actually SCREAM OUT “ YOU CANT TRUST US” so we create polices that prey on naive ppl that don’t know any better that such policies can’t be legally enforced . Ebay simply can’t have the attitude they have because there are too many other companies while they may be smaller , they are better .

Ebay won’t do anything until they are sued. With most other payment processors , banks , and any other kind of financial company , they just know better and would not even dare do what ebay managed payments with their very very very low standard of ethics is doing . It’s just unheard of . They need to be forced in front of a judge.

What would you do if eBay took offense to your post and closed your account?
Think, then post.
Great Moms turn them off first.

"Ebay managed payments is to far far below the industries standards in the industry of handling ppls money,..." In what respects? What sites are you comparing Ebay to? I'm simply trying to understand, nothing more. I'm willing to consider this, I'd just like to know who you are comparing Ebay to.
"ebay was sued more than once and lost and as a result, their policy thrown out by a judge ." On Managed Payments? When did this happen? Do you have any links to share so we can all learn more about this please.

it’s all over the Internet … ebay lost the lawsuit in 2014 over a policy , the judge ruled against the policy, ebay lost . Ebay can’t create unethical polices in any department , they can be sued and lose. It doesn’t matter what department , an unethical policy is an unethical policy. Google ebay loses lawsuit , you will see it under the consumer affairs .com website Aug 2014 . When you Google ebay loses lawsuit over their policies you will see several more lawsuits ebay lost .
