eBay is a major player in the secondhand sale market and is an integral part of moving merchandise for a seller. However, I'm really getting tired of eBay's managed payment policies. Once again a buyer opened a return. Apparently they purchased a gift and the recipient didn't want it. So now after almost the 30 day return window they decide to return.
Here's the problem, managed payments is withholding my funds from future payouts in the amount of this transaction, which is well over $ 2,000. In my opinion this is an unethical policy and I'm a Top Rated Seller for a reason. I deliver exceptional service and I will refund my customer, once I get the item back in its original condition. So the buyer has until February 17th to return this item and 2 business days have passed by and they have yet to return it. So my funds from future sales are on hold until they return the item an I issue a refund.
Does anyone else agree with this, as unethical business practices on behalf of eBay's managed payments?
I sell on Mercari, Offer Up, and Poshmark, and they don't have these policies in place for returns.
I believe in order to be taken seriously we would have to get over 500,000 sellers or more to boycott eBay. That's the only manner we can be heard. Until then, if I decide to boycott along with a few others, nothing will be done, we are replaceable and expendable.

I sold 7 items on Offerup this weekend, was paid in cash, immediately by the buyers and paid ZERO fees. Should have done this a long time ago.

I guess ebay now feels that since you have already received the Payment they will hold all of your sells even above the amount that the buyers paid you. I complained to ebay that i preferred paypal since returns were easier and you had seller protection when you used them. ebay has gotten more rotten to use in the latest changes to the seller program requiring you to add so much extra info to your listings along with listing requiring an inordinate time compared to the original system where all your info was easy to access.

I agree with you. I have the same issues. Thousands of dollars sold over a 4 day weekend and on Tuesday they send a measly $100 payout. **bleep**. I miss those days of instant payout. this is ridiculous. It is so easy to lose track of how much and what you are selling.
Ebay really needs to rethink this quagmire

since with paypal they basically had a holding account and as long as you had funds in that account to cover the return when it was approved between you and the buyer everything works easy but if you had received the money from that purchase you could transfer funds back into your account to cover the refund and all is well but with the leech ebay they do not have a way to accomplish this except to at once have it withdrawn from your bank account, there lies the rub. I am looking into other options also. I am a small long time seller with ebay and I know they will not miss my using their fouled up program and since i will no longer be allowed to use Paypal as my seller bank account on ebay, it is goodbye when I find another source.

The above options are almost identical to the way paypal worked when it was a function in ebay.

You can do that on Ebay too, even if you are in MP when you do local pick up. However Ebay still has a FVF the seller will owe, but Offerup does not.
Not everyone that sells on Ebay can survive ONLY on local sales, which is why a site like Ebay is needed so they can be seen worldwide.
Offerup does charge fees that are on sales that use their payment processing system and that would be ALL sales except for one's like you had. And if you don't like Ebay's program, you certainly can't like this one either.

For anyone reading this, @agb1937 was referring to what I posted regarding how Mercari does their payments. Post # 52 on this thread is the one they are responding to.
PayPal has NEVER processed payments like Mercari does. As many have said, in PP our money was available instantly. It is one of the major complaints about MP. So PP has never even come close to processing like Mercari does. FYI Poshmark and Offerup also has the same requirements.

I'm with you! I've been selling on eBay since 2016 with no problems. All of a sudden they put a hold on the money from all my sales unless I open a different bank account with a different bank because they don't like the one I have! When I refused to do so they told me that I would have to completely close my account in order to get my money and they'll send it to paypal! Yeah, paypal, the company they don't want to deal with anymore. So I go to close my account and it tells me I can't close it until I pay my fees for the month! Isn't that rich?! So I paid the bill, went back into close the account, and it said that since I just made a payment that I would have to wait another 30 days to close my account! After I close it then I have to wait 60 days for them to send my money to me! I don't know if they sold out to somebody else or what but this company is so far beyond crooked it's ridiculous! Other sellers that I know warned me when they left eBay how bad it was but I hadn't had any issues until now! Good job ebay!

They won't send the funds through Pay Pal.
The money will sent to your States Unclaimed Property, then you get it from your State.

Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it a "scam". You have every right not to like it and not to participate. There is nothing wrong with that if that is the best choice for you. There is also nothing wrong with those that choose to participated in the program either. It is a choice for each of us to make for what is best for ourselves.

You do realize the system isn't new and other sites have been using it for years, right?

I agree, moving to a different platform is the way to go. I have already started and making more sales on the new site than ebay. The new site does not allow buyers to cancel orders it is entirely up to the seller and all sales are final no returns. I have been selling more items there than i do on ebay and make way more money. Also the fees are rediculously low and the site is more popular than ebay surprisingly. I get more views on my items there than I do on ebay. It is no brainer for me. Be brave make the move you won't regret it.
