A new way to verify your bank account for managed payments

sheila@ebay
eBay Staff (Alumni)

Sellers,

We’ve made it easier for you to register for managed payments by introducing a new method to safely verify your bank account using microdeposits.

With this new method, eBay will make two microdeposits in unique amounts to your bank account to verify that we have the correct bank account information for you. The microdeposits will usually post to your bank account within 1-3 business days.

To identify the microdeposits, look for 2 small microdeposits in your account transaction history. Once you receive the deposits, you may return to eBay’s registration site to enter the amounts you received. Once verified, you will receive an email confirming your account. We’ll withdraw the amount of the microdeposits from your bank account typically within 3 business days.

If the amounts you enter do not match eBay’s records, you must verify your account using an alternative verification method.

In addition to microdeposits, you may also link your account directly to your seller account using eBay’s bank log-in feature.

We’re excited to be offering a simpler way for Sellers to verify their bank account for managed payments.

As always, thank you for selling on eBay.

Re: A new way to verify your bank account for managed payments

So then how was I paid before I shipped one year ago? Can you explain that. Don’t assume you know what you are talking about when it comes to

my situation. My issue is not with the rule. It is with its implementation to

custimers that have been members forever. It is funny they removed my post but allow you to have it up because you are defending them. Hilarious. I don’t care if the rule is not going anywhere. For my items I can sell them in more reputable auctions houses with no issue, and oh yeah I get paid before an item is ever shipped. Also if they have good reason to have such a policy why not have it from the beginning? They only switched once PayPal was out because now they have to guarantee the money. It is not about the customer it is about ebays greed.  Thanks for reposting even though eBay removed it. Just reminds me how big sellers tow the line for the company and not the customers.

Re: A new way to verify your bank account for managed payments

Thanks you are not helpful. My bank account has been linked since they switched from PayPal and I have been paid before,  this new responsibility program. I have explained this but people still defend eBay. I have a sold a few items since they switched and now they tell me the next 25 items have be delivered before I get paid. What I have tried to explain to you and everyone else who wants to comment is that is not okay for a customer of 15 years. It is also not how the world works. It is just how eBay works. If I was a new customer sure I get it. But I am not.  The issue is not the policy itnis that they policy was applied to me after I had already been paid for items before they shipped. I remember why I don’t post on blogs. They take

down your posts, people attack you and pretend it is them giving advice.  It is both hilarious and sad, good luck to you jack and and everyone else who

posts. Thanks for those who have mentioned similar experience.

Well it does not seem that ebay needs any officials on this tread, your here for them. I am pretty sure I have been with ebay longer than you. That does not mean I can't make mistakes, but I was never notified of the change from paypal. You would think such a major change would have warranted a email with that issue in the heading.

Secondly, I know what I had listed as my shipping options, but you assume I am a dumb ass and I can't read the listing. Remember what they say, of people assuming things.

You are reading more into my posts than I've posted, so lets not do that as all that does is cause misunderstandings.  I'm pretty good about saying what I mean.

IDK why you didn't get caught up with this issue a year ago.  IDK if  you had were 90+ days without any sales before that.  I can't answer your question for you, you would need to ask Ebay for that.

Again, the length of time you have had an account on Ebay doesn't have anything to do with anything regarding this rule we have been discussing.

I'm not nor have I "defended" Ebay.  I have not offered you my personal opinion of this rule.  All I've done is explain how and why the rule works.  Because you disagree with the rule you think I'm defending it when all I'm doing is explaining it to you.

You really need to read the community rules.  You keep making assumptions that are incorrect.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/About-the-Community/Rules-of-Engagement/td-p/26164369?nobounce

Ebay hasn't been an Auction house in years.  Less than 20% of Ebay listings are auctions.  The majority of listings are Fixed Price.  I've never used an actual Auction House, so I don't know anything about their fee structure or their rules.  But I can tell you on all the other big sites similar to Ebay, all of them require you to ship before money gets released to the seller.  And then it just moves to Available funds.  It will still take a couple days or more for the funds to actually get to your bank.

Not every rule Ebay has was in existence since the beginning of the site.  As Ebay grew so did the rules.  So while this policy we have been discussing is several years or more old, I'm not sure when it came into play precisely.  That however doesn't make it any less important to know about.  It applies to sellers just like all the other rules do, no matter when it was implemented.

OH NO NO.  This rule did NOT just start in this past year when Ebay made the switch for all sellers to the MP program.  It was very active when PP was our processor.  Because you didn't experience it before doesn't mean it wasn't there.

I really don't understand.  You came to the threads to complain or voice your concern over certain matters.  Then when someone come and posts in an effort to explain to you what is going on, this is your reaction?!?!?!

If you feel you know everything that is Ebay related, then why come to a Community Discussion Thread?

All I did was let you know what rules are likely applying to you right now as well as how to fix your shipping issue for the future.  For some reason because you didn't like the answer, not that it wasn't true, because you don't like it you want to try and throw shade on me??  I'd like to say that is an unusual reaction but it really isn't when someone tells some member what they don't want to hear.

As for our length of time on Ebay.  You are absolutely correct, you have been a member on Ebay for about three months longer than I have been.  Did you also want to discuss how many transactions as a seller you have had on Ebay verses how many I have had?  Is that important to you too???

I NEVER called you any name or names.  I don't do that to any poster ever.  So your ASSUMPTION and/or decision to read between the lines and decide what I said is completely WRONG and inappropriate.

Yes, absolutely, you should take your own advice "Remember what they say, of people assuming things."

Sellers are humans.  Humans make mistakes from time to time.  It happens to all of us on various subjects regarding selling here.  Using the shipping calculator is one of the tools that Ebay offers that can really help a seller but it is also one that is pretty easy to make a mistake with.  It happens to sellers all the time, even those that may have used it for years.  Mistakes happen to us mere humans.

Re: A new way to verify your bank account for managed payments

I will not be using Ebay anymore.  I have been a fan for years and it helped support my children when Their father died and I NEVER had a problem using PAYPAL now I cannot get my money this stupid Microdeposit !  Talk about confusing !  Ebay you have gone seriously downhill.  Once I have managed to get my money I will leave and let everyone I know how crap you are.  Hate to say it but looks like Amazon has won again.  What a shame

Re: A new way to verify your bank account for managed payments

Hi, can you help me.  I've received my microdeposits but entered them in correctly the other day and now it's telling me the bank account can't be verified and I need to use another bank account but I don't have another bank account. I have an active sale so without sorting this not sure how I'll get paid.  Thanks

Have you responded and entered the amounts correctly? just getting micro deposits means nothing, you need to show eBay what amounts you received so they are aware your account is infact operating as it should be.

Re: A new way to verify your bank account for managed payments

Hi Sheila,

There have been a lot of posts about seller's having to upload a jpg of their bank statement - nothing blacked out, showing their address and information etc, and full transaction info.

I know this post is from Nov 2020, but if this micro deposit verification is still available, any idea why eBay now suddenly need all this statement info?

They only need it if the other methods don't work for whatever reason. I was just asked to verify my bank account the other day (a random security check, I'm assuming, as I'd been receiving deposits into it with no issues for almost a year) and they gave me the options of microdeposits, signing into my bank account or sending a copy of my statement. I went with the microdeposits and as soon as I entered the amounts into eBay, they immediately said I was verified and took the hold off and I didn't need to do anything more.
