Troubleshooting Notifications - No notifications, No cha-ching, Late notifications

If you are experiencing problems with no notifications, late notifications, incorrect sounds please read this post. We will provide some common troubleshooting steps to get your notifications showing up properly.

  • Notifications not arriving - Sign out and Sign in
  • Cha-Ching sound is missing - Sign out, uninstall the app and reinstall the app.
  • Notifications do not show up until app is open - Adjust the battery saving settings on your device

How to adjust the batter saving settings:

Settings > Apps & Notifications > Advanced > Special Access > Battery optimization > Select All Apps at the top > eBay (Set this to ‘Not Optimized’)

Settings > Smart Manager > App Manager > Auto-Start Tab > Set eBay to “Restrict”

Settings > Smart Manager > App Manager > Deep Hibernate Tab > Toggle eBay to ‘Not optimized’

Samsung S9 Settings > Device Care > Battery > Settings >  Adaptive battery toggle.. "Limit battery usage for apps that you don't use often. Your phone will learn how you use apps over time." Toggle OFF

We will keep this topic updated. Please let us know if you have other problems with notifications.

Troubleshooting Notifications - No notifications, No cha-ching, Late notifications

Hey all, I came across this post as I was having the same issue.  Everything mentioned here, while worthwhile checking, doesn't solve a dang thing.  However, I didn't expect to actually find an answer here being that page 3 of 3 said everyone tried everything and everyone still mad af so I assumed issues wasn't with ebay and/or the app, so I ventured off to search through things on the samsung side.

I found solution, but you need windows PC.

The problem is with android 9.0, hence you see this problem didn't come about until s10 was launched (released with 9.0) and then the s9 updated to 9.0 shortly after, and then those users came to this thread and started complaining....

I discovered it is the deep idle mode that comes enabled on 9.0 android OS.

very easy to disable

what you need;

- windows PC

- usb cable

- usb debug enabled on phone

- adb program (i recommend minimal adb and fastboot program, google it)

to do it.  connect phone to PC and always allow USB debug pop up on phone

in minimal adb window type without quotes "adb devices" and press enter. Ensure phone is showing up there.  once you see the phone listed as device proceed to next step

enter without quotes "adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable" and press enter on keyboard.

It should show no errors and skip to next line as seen in my attached photo.

im not liable for decreased battery life.  as with everything you must sacrifice to gain.

enjoy everyone 🙂

you also need to re-do this after every OTA update. It seems that OTA updates are re-enabling deepidle mode.

Troubleshooting Notifications - No notifications, No cha-ching, Late notifications

I have Android v9 (Pie) on a Motorola e6 phone.

I never had any trouble with late notifications until I got this phone in August.  However, since then my notifications have such a delay.

I checked my phone just now and my eBay app was updated 2 days ago.  But...yesterday I got a sale notification 6 hours AFTER the sale.  Had it not been for email the package would not have been mailed in time.

I DID find that the "Adaptive Battery" was set on.  I turned it off this morning.  Hopefully I'll get a sale to find out if that was the problem.

But...HERE'S A WORK AROUND until I can be sure not to miss a sale:

I use gmail and I download my mail with a POP3 program.  So this needs to be done in your browser.

I set up a filter so that any email that comes in with the subject of 'Sale Confirmed' , I have it forwarded to my phone by way of a text message.  My email address that I had to set up as a Forwarding Email Address is 1234567890@vtext.com (yours may be different depending on your carrier)

One more thing:

After making adjustments on my phone, I THINK I have it worked out now.

Notifications and Battery are the issues.

First, once I turned the notifications to 'Show Silently' for my email associated with my ebay account,  the ka-ching no longer does just a half sound...the full sound now comes though.  It appears that just having an email notification AND the ebay sale  coming in at the same time was conflicting with each other.  By stopping one, the other was able to play the sound to the fullest.

I also turned off the Battery Saver AND the Adaptive Battery.

I just had a sale and I got the ka-ching, the email and the text message all with not conflict with each other.

Troubleshooting Notifications - No notifications, No cha-ching, Late notifications

Hi, No it's Not your phone, it's the eBay app! I had a SS Note 3 and always had my battery saver on and never had any problems with notifications or the Cha-ching sound. I bought the SS Galaxy Note 8 and I kept my battery saver on and all my notifications came through perfectly and the Cha-ching sound too, until eBay did their last update or changed something else. Now I don't get notifications of Offers! I've lost sales but worse, the buyers think I ignored them! That's embarrassing, & I can't get eBay to Help me! But they didn't hesitate to take my Top Seller badge away when my sales dropped because of their app not performing at 100% as it should! I'm disabled & in Stage IIIb remission, Thank You Jesus, but I suffer from severe radiation damage that has destroyed parts of my internal body & had to have emergency surgeries to save my life. Now I'm facing another emergency surgery & Medicare doesn't cover most of it! I've been selling everything I can to pay! I Need to get my notifications & my Cha-ching back!

I'm sorry but there is No excuse that eBay's Tech's can't fix these issues! All these complaints & theirs sellers begging for help & all they do is tell us to change our phone settings! No, that's unacceptable! I Must keep my phone on 24/7 in case of an emergency, and I need to keep my battery saver on to help extend the life of my battery and my phone! I really love selling on eBay, I wish it wasn't a medical urgency but Thank God I can. I don't mind the fees because they deserve them, but I expect that since everyone pays eBay, whether seller or buyer, our app needs to work correctly! And I'm sorry but it's the IT Tech Dept's responsibility to Repair their apps issues, or Replace or Rewrite their last update! It's not our android phones, iphone's or other phones, it's the app! As smart and intelligent, as IT Tech's, Data, Programmers, Writers, Software Engineers are, ( I think their genius like) I don't understand why they can't fix these problems that their programs, updates created? I Need their Help asap too! I 🙏 they will pay attention to us and help. God Bless Everyone

To 1naughtycousin:  Then I would recommend that you have your preferences in your  ebay Account Summary/Communications set to receive an email for everything you really need to be notified right away for.

Then in your email account, forward any necessary emails (such as auction won, outbid, sale confirmed, payment received, etc) to your phone as a text message.  Just check previous emails for the appropriate subject to fill in when you set up your forwarding. You're sure to at least get your important notifications.

i like everyone else are tired of solution suggestions. the app stinks! how can a billion dollar company put up with this. admit defeat and start over or something because you're clearly not fixing anything.  if i have 7 auctions in a night i may receive 3 out of 50 bid notifications and don't tell me it's my phone or i wouldn't get any notifications at all!!! you think it's all our fault? we're all doing something wrong with all these different phones? please! and i always like to throw this in whenever i can, i was told that they would buy my phone because they believed there was a hidden setting missing and find the problem. not only was i lied to but this juggernaut of a company can't afford my phone, or your phone, or competent engineers.
