Why does eBay removes negative feedback?

Why did eBay sided with a seller in removing my negative feedback without even consulting me or asking my side of the story? That's absolute **bleep**

This seller misrepresented his sale and he was missing two key components. One missing component around $27, and the second key component around $5 but which will render the device purchased inoperable.

When I approached the seller about it we ended up in a very heated exchange when all I was looking for a "sorry" and will do better next time.  He insulted me to the point of that I am needy and high maintenance customer.  And that crossed the line for me which resulted in a "negative" review as he fully deserved. Well somehow he turned around with eBay and got my review removed somehow.

The question is where I can reach eBay to present my case and understand their process of siding with the seller without even consulting me?

In all honesty the 2 missing parts I was willing to buy them myself and get the device in working conditions and all I was looking for was an apology

Give eBay's behavior and since the device is not working due to the missing parts I decided to open a case with PayPal and refund this thing as I am done with eBay and this seller.

Feedback cannot include vulgarity or libellous statements.

Sellers can have such FB removed.

EBay also will block all feedback for sellers in some protected categories.

Feedback is a heritage from the 20th century internet when buying online was edgy and scary, not how we buy dog food and toilet paper.

It was meant to be an opinion on the transaction.

EBay does not use FB to assess member accounts.

If you want action, file a Dispute, in this cases Not As Described.

You may be told to return the entire purchase to the seller when he sends you return shipping in order to win and be refunded.

If he refuses the return, you win and he gets a Defect on his account, which has strong repercussions.

And since you bypassed opening a case here, but instead decided to open one on PP, you will pay for return shipping.

Re: Why does eBay removes negative feedback?

All you ever had to do was file an Item Not As Described claim with eBay.  eBay's Money Back Guarantee would have fully protected you.  Your money would have been fully refunded, including the shipping.  Easy as pie.  End of story.

Instead, you have caused yourself a lot of grief and you will pay return shipping, assuming PayPal sides with you and has you return the item for a refund.

I'm not trying to add insult to injury.  I'm just suggesting that wherever you take your business next, you take a bit of time to see how things work there before you start buying.

Re: Why does eBay removes negative feedback?

Very good points and appreciate the feedback.  This item was sold as non-returnable so my assumption was going the Bay route is a no-no. Live and learn I guess.  Besides the entire exchange with the seller and eBay siding with him made me very suspicious about eBay's ability to solve this.

I don't mind paying for shipping but man, what a pain this guy is 🙂

Re: Why does eBay removes negative feedback?

ALL buyers need to read the Money Back Guarantee, preferably before they start buying.

A seller's "No returns" stance means nothing in the face of the MBG.  You need to do a little more reading.

Re: Why does eBay removes negative feedback?

On a separate note, eBay is dying a slow death man. Between sellers forced to link their bank account to eBay with unlimited bank access and the quality of sellers I am observing here, I think eBay is done and I am done.  I am sure I will be checking out pretty soon as there is not much I can get here.  It was a good ride but eBay is DONE

PayPal offers free return shipping for buyers but you have to sign up for it brfore you file a dispute.

Re: Why does eBay removes negative feedback?

EBay allows a No Returns policy. Why would a seller pay for the return of a $5 item that is very likely broken? Or for an expensive crystal bowl that was dropped by the carrier in transit?

EBay does NOT allow a No Refunds policy.

And eBay allows a seller with a No Returns policy to demand return before refunding, although the seller will most likely have to pay for the return.

Two kinds of sellers have No Returns policies.

Those who never want to see the item again for economic or emotional reasons.

Those who know they are selling garbage but hope to con the buyer into thinking getting a refund is hopeless.

PayPal offers free return shipping for buyers but you have to sign up for it brfore you file a dispute.

Was this part of the newish rise in seller fees?

I am old and cynical.

I think there have been posts like this announcing eBay's demise since Paypal was introduced way back in 2002.

20 years later and many many more ''prophesies'' made over any changes in procedure and policy - yet here they are - they seem to be pretty resilient.

Re: Why does eBay removes negative feedback?

They usually only remove feedback if it in someway violates their feedback policies.  Not being privy to the specific details of the situation it isn't possible to comment on the specific reason it was removed.
