Someone inside of eBay is using my account without my permission. Check your accounts!

     My recently viewed items suddenly had a bunch of sex dolls, and other strange items, which I had never looked at. I looked at my account logins, and it shows logins at 2 and 3AM, when myself and my husband (the only ones in my house) are sleeping. The logins show both the device and location as being 'not available.' I change my password immediately, and turn on 2-factor authentication, where I get a text with a code to be able to login. NO ONE has access to my new login. The next night the exact same thing happened again. I had not gone anywhere, and use only my laptop for logging in.

     I call eBay. The agent says tells me that they see no one logging into my account at 2 and 3AM. They say that the sex dolls, etc. showing in my 'recently viewed' items is a bug, and they will put me on the list of users affected. I had contacted eBay recently for assistance, and this issue started right after I did. Their employees obviously have access to my account, and seem to be staying logged into it after I contact them, and using it for their own means. When I called eBay this morning, the service agent's log in to look at my account looked EXACTLY THE SAME as the previous logins at 2 and 3AM: device and location 'not available'.

     Check your recently viewed items (on eBay's front page), and contact eBay if there is something there which you don't recognize. They have a major security risk here. They do not seem willing to admit it. Definitely not 'a bug'.

     I hope this can be escalated past the agent who I talked to.

I can understand the skepticism, and think I have gone through the other possibilities. I am open to more ideas.

I have come to this conclusion only after consulting with a network security specialist.

I doubt that it is someone from eBay, what would they possibly gain by doing any of that? Besides those reps you spoke to over the phone don't have access to your passwords, they will tell you what you want to hear to get you off the phone.

It could possibly be someone you know playing games.

Because if it was a hacker they would do more to your account than just look at adult items. They would reroute your payouts list items and other strange things and change your password so you couldn't get in.

By the way, I did as you suggested, looked at my browsing history, all that was there were items I looked at.

Have no idea what happened; however, I do know from past experience that the CS reps will tell you what you want to hear just to get you off the phone and move along to the next person that they can say, "Yes, we are aware.  It's a known glitch and we're working on it".

And this is the answer suggested by the network security specialist, that an eBay employee is doing this? Did the specialist speculate to what end this is being done, or what this person has to gain?

@25kenwood

The likely explanation is that you received an email or a text that claimed to be from ebay and you logged in to your account via a link in the message. That gave a crook your PW allowing them to access your account.

Hey devon@ebay . Wanted to flag this post and see if you could you shed some light on the situation and claims that CS is behind this.

Not at all likely. I do not click on links inside of e-mails, and have received no such e-mail from eBay, nor 'eBay'.

there has been issues with members getting notifications for items they didn't actually even view.  This could be what the rep was thinking of too.  My husband had it happen to him where it was sending notifications for items he hadn't viewed and asked what I knew about it.  I knew it was a issue others were reporting happening.

I'm thinking someone knows your password even after you changed it so maybe a keylogger was installed...

I call eBay.

@25kenwood

Did you use the "call back" feature or pull some phone number off the net to contact eBay?

eBay called me, after requesting it via their chat window on the site.
I don't use random phone numbers on the internet.

Hey @wastingtime101! Just as @25kenwood has done so already I would recommend for them to update their password and add 2 factor authentication. Customer support does have the ability to access accounts but will only do so when in contact with members. Based on the login information shared this appears to have been done from someone outside of eBay.

     The unauthorized logins look EXACTLY like the customer service agent's login when she went to look at my account, which I saw come up while I was talking to her, so how can you say that 'Based on the login information shared this appears to have been done from someone outside of eBay' ?

     I had a whole bunch more unauthorized use last night.

My session (and only session) is at the top:

I received an e-mail reply regarding another issue your service team had been working on, directly after one of these 👆 logins, so an agent was obviously on my account last night. Seems like quite the coincidence that someone was shopping for baby formula on my account right around the time that a service agent was looking at my account.

Did you even read my post?

I DID change my password, and immediately after someone was STILL using my account. No one gained my new password in the 12 hours I was sitting at home after I changed it.

I don't need to read 'any further' into your post to know that

a.) you've been hacked

b.) as stated by an ebay employee (and NOT CS, which you sadly assume means anything they say)

c.) You've been hacked

d.) your eaby account has been hacked

e.) you've been hacked and your ebay account has been hacked.

Log in from a completely DIFFERENT computer and change your password and do NOT use the 'computer' you've been using when seeing this on ebay.

Don't want to heed this? Enjoy.
