Did you mean:

Sniping needs to stop, and I have a solution.

I lost an auction today that I have held the high bid for THREE STINKING DAYS.  Also I wasn't near my max bid.  With ONE MINUTE left this **bleep** with a 4 feedback rating comes in bids enough to hit my max. Then bids  ONE DOLLAR over my max to win and with no time for me to rebid.   I saw another auction site that combated sniping by add 5 minutes to the auction if someone bid with a minute or less left in the auction.  I don't remember how many times they would do it.  Here's my idea:  Add five minutes anytime there is a bid or bids in the last two minutes of the auction. Also add "Snip-bot" detection software as well as bans for serial snipers.

What do y'all think of my idea?  Tell me.  Right I am seething over this, the seller isn't answering my message, and I reported it to Ebay who agreed it looked extremely suspicious and are going to investigate.  However the Ebay rep. said the sniper has already paid for the item.  GRRR. >.<

If you were willing to bid $100, why didn’t you do that originally?  Then we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Re: Sniping needs to stop, and I have a solution.

I got my start on auctions, 40 years ago, at livestock auctions.  People think of that type of traditional auction when they look at eBay auctions, and don’t want to hear that they’re comparing apples and oranges.

Re: Sniping needs to stop, and I have a solution.

I rarely bid on auctions because I like to look up something, decide I want it, and hit “Buy It Now”. I don’t like waiting or losing out.

That said the occasional auctions I do participate in, I always snipe bid. If I want the item I’m going to do what I can legally do to get it.

And if I drop the ball or if it goes over my max bid I certainly would not dream of pestering the seller about it. I view that as extremely rude.

Someone wanted the item more than you did. Simple.

Better luck next time.

Re: Sniping needs to stop, and I have a solution.

Honestly I have lost ALL RESPECT for Ebay  and its sellers anyway. How can you take a site seriously that allowed sellers to sell toilet paper for $100 a roll or worse at the height of the pandemic.  PPE like nitrile gloves being sold at hideous prices at the height of the pandemic.  When the FEDERAL GOVERMENT  has to intervene and threaten fines to stop it, that's bad.  To me its like Ebay and their sellers gave everyone THE finger while laughing all the way to the bank.

I feel like Ebay has encouraged this  greedy out of control capitalistic behavior.  I will NEVER forget going to a big sale at my favorite clothing store, and this person grabbing EVERY PAIR OF JEANS on the sale rack.   When I spoke up she flips me her card and says "You can by them from me on EBay"!!!!   For the record she put them up at the original retail price or higher.  I'd shop the Goodwill, but now you can't even get nice upcycled jeans there because NOW GOODWILL LISTS EVERYTHING ON EBAY!  All because the MILLENIAL Generation wants to sit on their butts and have the world handed to them. I see this attitude all the time.

Yet you actually have to wonder why buyers get angry and frustrated.  Ebay has ALWAYS been about the sellers.   There are so many more options why would I want to pay Ebay sellers' bloated over inflated prices.  I think after 23 years it time to deactivate my account since according to you "FINE" "UPSTANDING" Ebay citizens I am a stupid, ignorant, cheap piece of crap of a human being.

For  the record I have to live on a budget.  I gave up my job and my degree to care for my ailing parents.  I lost a lot of  possessions  when the basement flooded and insurance would not replace anything. I lost a bedroom suit from 1950 that had belonged to my Grandma.  Our basement is fully finished and has two bedrooms we had one as a guest room.   That stupid cactus had been a gift from my mother who DIED LAST YEAR.  I only wanted the thing because the memories it brings back  But hey I am a selfish, rude cow, right?

Hey this is EBay  and we're not ALLOWED TO HAVE FEELINGS RIGHT!?!?!?

I know this has gone on way way way too long.

remove the word sniping from your vocabulary.  NO ONE SNIPED YOU  THEY BID.  AND THEY OUTBID YOU.   IT NEEDS NO FIX.

Re: Sniping needs to stop, and I have a solution.

Okay, I’m not a seller. I’m here as a buyer because this board is a good source of information.

Are you saying that the other buyer doesn’t have a right to the auction that they won and paid for because you’ve had some difficult times?

I’m sorry about your mother but how do you know what the winning buyer’s life story is?

Maybe they bid on it for sentimental reasons as well.

Should they change the whole auction format and never allow anyone else to outbid you just because you’re upset that you didn’t win?

The sense of entitlement that you’re displaying is overwhelming.

I guess you should alert any store you plan on visiting that you will be coming so they can make sure none of their other customers grabs up something on sale that you wanted. 😐

Ebay doesn't allow price gouging during the pandemic (or ever). They do everything they can to stop it.

Re: Sniping needs to stop, and I have a solution.

Wow so I am NOT supposed to be offended when someone rips an item out of my hand?  The woman I referred to grabbed ALL the sale jeans including the pair I had in my hands and a pair an African American lady had in her hands,  But hey she's AN EBAY SELLER so that make it fine!   The African American lady got a round of applause when she tore the woman's business card into pieces.

If the buyer wanted it why not bid earlier?     NO, I am not saying because I have had a rough time they didn't have  right to bid and/or win.  I am saying it felt MALICIOUS to me to do that with one minute left.   They'll probably relist for $100 or $200 that what I see 99% of the time.

I have seen malicious buyer behavior on here.  You all would have crapped  the great pyramid back in the day. ('98 - '00).   I well remember the punk kid that bid on and defaulted on $30,000 worth of items most of it Sci-Fi stuff.   I was bidding on a Xena Crew jacket for a gift for my sister.  The little darling  run that auction up to almost $600.  I bowed out after it reached $100.    He run up a auction for a Original Battle Star Galactica series costume to $15,000 and defaulted.   I only learned about it because the jacket seller emailed me they would be relisting the jacket.  I wrote back and asked what happened. Because back then, Ebay really didn't let sellers back out of a transaction too much.   The seller was the one who told me it was a punk 12 year old kid.

Hey I had a guy slap me with a NPB back then because I couldn't have the money in his hands in three days.  That was before I had a credit card.  I bought and mailed money orders.  I won the auction at 9:30 on a Saturday night.  And I was to have the money to him by 9:30 Tuesday, oh and he was 1,000 miles away from me.  I got  an NPB and a Neg over that mess.  Ebay removed the NPB but left me with the neg.   Let's see I got a NPB because I was snowed in and there was no mail delivery...I guess I was supposed to get a carrier pigeon.  Oh and I got a neg cause I forgot an auction because my mom was in the hospital ICU near death. Mom pull through and I got a NPB and a Neg.  After I scanned and emailed a copy of the dismissal papers Ebay removed the NPB.

Ebay sellers are greed and selfish on the whole.  I will say I have met a few - a very few-  that were genuinely nice people.

The bottom line it is  SUBJECTIVE PERCEPTION.   How I perceive the events, and each of you perceive  the event are always going to be 100% different.    Why do you think they say an eye witness is the WORST witness? ( unless that eye witness is a CCTV camera)

Because that leaves your maximum bid available for shilling sellers and other reactive bidders to react to.  You are NOT entitled to any information about my bid in order to react to it, because you have no need to know anything about how much I value the item to bid how much YOU value the item.

Why did you NOT bid your TRUE maximum when you had the chance?

Re: Sniping needs to stop, and I have a solution.

You’ve called people cows and punks. You have said that Ebay sellers are greedy and selfish.

You are upset that you are expected to live up to your end of the deal and pay in a timely manner.

You are having a meltdown that someone who obviously wanted the item as much (actually more) than you did won the auction.

You’ve copped an attitude with everyone who has tried to help you here free of charge.

Nobody here works for Ebay or for you but you’ve ranted and screamed at them as if they owe you something.

I honestly don’t think Ebay is for you.
