I made offer on vehicle. Seller accepted offer. Buddy drove me several hours to other state to pay seller and pickup car. Seller was expecting ten times the price that he accepted previously. Took the long drive home empty handed. Now I am getting messages that threaten unpaid item strike. What is the next step here?

That seller is throwing empty threats. He can't give you an unpaid item strike, car purchases are non binding which means either party can walk away without repercussions.
Just ignore those messages and delete, the seller will soon tire of sending messages with no response. You can block his ID as well click the Actions drop down menu click block. You can report the message from the same drop down as well. When you block a member they can no longer send you messages.

Now I am getting messages that threaten unpaid item strike.
@ubcensored
Where are these messages coming from? eBay? the seller?
The eBay policies for "motor vehicles" are different. It is my understanding that seller is not required to sell, and buyers are not required to pay.
Always seemed like a strange set up to me. Even if an eBay bot gifts you with an unpaid item strike, so long as you only have ONE in a year, it won't matter.

Perhaps Ebay can stop sending me reminders to pay for the item then?

The messages are from Ebay. I misspoke. They are telling me to pay. I thought I saw warning of unpaid strike. Now I can't find that message.

Ebay is sending me action notices telling me I need to pay. I've gone over the three day mark. I thought I saw an unpaid item warning but now I can't find that message. My fault for misspeaking it appears.

On eBay, as I'm sure you are aware, motor vehicle sales don't work the same as those of other goods.
On eBay, either party in the transaction, seller or buyer, can simply walk away from the transaction, no harm, no foul. There is no "next step" unless you want to contact the seller and remind him of that fact. I wouldn't bother.

It's my understanding that the rules are different for motor vehicles because it's a titled item.
Perhaps someone else can offer a better explanation.

From their policy page, here's eBay statement on why bidding for both vehicles and real estate is nonbinding:
"Properties and vehicles are usually high-priced items, and their sale is often both complex and subject to a variety of laws. As such, it will often be necessary for potential buyers and sellers to exchange additional information before completing a transaction."
With vehicles the main issue is that every state has laws that used vehicle sales are as-is in the absence of a written warranty. So there needs to be a provision allowing buyers to inspect the vehicle before finalizing the purchase.

You can leave negative feedback stating that the seller upped the price AFTER making you drive several hours.
It would be different had the seller told you BEFORE the seller and you arranged the pickup.

Auto sales are non binding on eBay. Either party can just walk away.

The seller accepted an offer. Then messaged me that he will not sell it to me for the amount. I'm not requesting he cancel. If I request it, I get dinged. This will be the third seller in recent history that can't read an offer. One involved a four hour drive one way. It's annoying. They blindly accept the offer then realize they don't want to sell the vehicle at the price that they accepted. Doesn't seem difficult to me but I appear to be missing something after this recently being the third one.
