Seller did not add signature confirmation on delivery. Package stolen

So I need someone here to walk me through this process because Ebay customer service did not help me very much.  I ordered an item valued at $439.99.  The seller did not ship the item with a delivery signature request.  FedEx delivered the package while I was not home, and it sat on my door step for who knows how long.  I didn't return until 3 days later and the box wasn't there.  So somebody stole the box some time between the delivery date and my return.  I filed a claim with E-bay and they immediately closed the case against me and I get no refund.  I called them with an appeal and I apparently have to fill out these forms and upload them, But they didn't tell me exactly what forms to complete.  I got an E-mail with 3 different links, (High Value Claims, Appeals, and Escalations).  All 3 links take me to the same page and it's just a blank box to type stuff in.  Then the representative said I need to complete an Internet Crime Form, but I have no idea what that has to do with this.

I then filed a Claim with FedEx, but according to them, any refunds involving missing packages must go through the shipper, and then the shipper has to refund me themselves.

I just want to know who is responsible for this and who I get a refund from.  I am not losing $400 because a negligent Ebay seller doesn't put signature confirmations on his items.

the seller hired the shipper! certainly not financially responsable but sellers assistance would go a long ways in helping the buyer (if insurance or fedex even covers it)  i often here sellers stating their job isnt done until buyer receives item and is happy. the few minutes to address this is part of 'service'. ebay says seller is clear (and i agree in this case) but good follow up service would be a little assistance! 'I'm covered, f*ck off' is bad bussiness. the buyer needs another, where are they buying the next one?

What do you think the seller would be able to do?  All they could possibly do would be to call FedEx and ask whether it was delivered, which the buyer has apparently already done.

"I then filed a Claim with FedEx, but according to them, any refunds involving missing packages must go through the shipper, and then the shipper has to refund me themselves. "       < my comments were addressing this!  'IF' fedex actually did offer a refund, buyer cant get it because seller 'did their part'! not debating if they will actually get anything but the attitude lacks character. if you see an accident and nobody else there to help, do you stop and help, call 911 or just say 'not my problem'?  okay, rule out helping someone you just made a profit from and focus on greed instead, 'IF' refund goes threw the seller, he can just ship another item and turn a profit a second time. probably should add delivery confirmation and mark that up too!

As a seller I would call Fedex for my buyer, but I know the outcome because I've done it before.  Hour or so on hold to talk to a rep that says "Tracking shows the package as delivered."  The problem is the seller can't file a claim with Fedex for the item being stolen off the buyers porch, you may as well be filing a claim for the flower pot on the porch.  Fedex is not the police.  Yes, the seller can call and talk with Fedex, but anyone who has dealt with this before will tell you, nothing will happen...  the package was delivered.  The anger the buyer has needs to be better directed at the neighborhood where they live, filing a police report, having a safe spot to deliver packages, etc.  I understand the frustration of the OP, but the seller is not the one at fault here.

no, i dont feel seller did anything wrong. buyer did not request signature confirmation and it was delivered. if their anger was directed at the seller, that wouldnt of helped either! as a buyer, i would hope that a seller would do what they could (within reason) rather than have the attitude that ebay backs them, just go away. 'within reason' would probably exclude an hour on the phone with no hope of resolving anything.

It's $750 for both Paypal and eBay, it changed several years ago from $250.  Suggesting a Chargeback for an item that was delivered, is suggesting the OP commit fraud FYI.

It’s not suggesting fraud. Many credit cards offer protection for this 😉

You bet they do!  Just not through a chargeback.

Signature Confirmation is not required on items under $750.00.

If you are unable to be home, you can call the shipper and make arrangements to re-schedule delivery for when you will be home.  Or you can arrange to pick it up at a convenient carrier location.

But tracking shows delivery.  Delivery means no refund.

That policy changed several years ago.

Also the buyer will will will lose a credit car chargeback because the seller can prove it was delivered to the address on record.

Re: Seller did not add signature confirmation on delivery. Package stolen

With all due respect, seller fufilled obligation as item shows delivered.  Insurance is not going to cover this as it shows delivered.   Buyer received item so the seller's job is done.  Buyer being happy does not cover the item being left outside for three days and stolen.  How could it?  What do you think the seller should do here?   Sadly there is nothing he can do.  Buyer can try to address this with FedEx, but if item shows delivered, nothing will be done.

The buyer needs another.  Buyer may already be blocked by this seller, who would not want this to happen again.  The estimated delivery timeframe is just that, an estimate.  If you are expecting an expensive item, it is best to make arrangements to accomodate any absence in that timeframe.  If you want signature confirmation, you ask if it will be sent with that if you don't know, before you bid or buy.  IF seller will comply, and they don't have to, they can just block you, then you offer to pay extra for that service.

Sorry.  I understand you think the seller should do something but there is nothing for him to do.  No carrier is going to refund on an item that was delivered.

What the buyer doesn't understand is, no matter what company had sent this package, it still would have disappeared. I wonder what other online retailers would do for the buyer. Anyone have any experience with this same scenario--a package was scanned as delivered, but you were gone for three days, and it was missing when you got home?

Happened to a friend of mine, and the company said to take it up with the post office since tracking showed it was delivered.  No retailer is going to just up and refund or send a replacement if the item has been delivered-- can you imagine how many people would lie in an attempt to get free stuff?

Exactly.  What an epidemic of delivered packages that were never received that would be!

  • Why should the seller help recover something from FedEx if the package shows as delivered?
  • Again, why would the seller be obligated to work with FedEx?

As a matter of fact, the Buyer does need another one!

And as a matter of fact, the Buyer is NOT gonna be buying it from eBay.

Keep in mind neither eBay nor the seller has slighted the buyer in anyway.  If this had happened through Amazon, Walmart, Target, or any other online site, the result would have been the same.   An unattended package sitting on a doorstep for 3 days in a bad neighborhood, is just begging for this to happen.  It is the buyers responsibility to have a safe place for the package to be left.  The OP's doorstep is obviously not that spot.  My personal suggestion is to get a box at the UPS store.  Or even better if you want Signature Confirmation, ask the seller to add it on to your package.  Don't retroactively be mad they didn't do it, when they are not requied to do so.

And be prepared to pay extra for that service.

Be aware that the estimated delivery timeframe is just that, an estimate.  Items can arrive inside of outside of that timeframe.  Make your arrangements accordingly.

The buyer will win. The seller will be covered by PayPal seller protection.

Re: Seller did not add signature confirmation on delivery. Package stolen

I really think the buyer should contact Fed Exp and told them he did not get his package or get the seller to intervene, why should the seller not intervene?

why?Because he could lose a chargeback and get hit with $20 fee, thats why.

If the policy still hold,Fed exp does not offer insurance, but indemnity,$100 for non jewelry and $1000 for jewelry.
