Hi.
When I have searched for an item and wish to view it and click it, a new tab opens up. This has just started in the last week or so for me.
I am using my desktop and different browsers, Brave, Chrome and Edge. I have deleted all cookies and the cache. I do not use an app.
Is there a fix for this please?

I've had this for several days now too. When the new tab opens, the "Back to results" link only works intermittently as well. It either does nothing, or it takes you back the results, but of course you're still on the new tab (so have duplicate listing tabs).
I also noticed another thing they've broken...
If you try and share an item via the email link, then select "Other email" (to use your default email client), the link to the item is replaced with "null" ..so you can't share a link via your email client either.
These issues have recently appeared on my Windows PC in Chrome and Edge browsers (both up-to-date).
As eBay appear to have a history of introducing this "feature" (breaking it) going back several years, I'm hoping they fix it as suddenly as they broke it.

Started happening again the past week or so. Same thing happened months ago then stopped, now back again. I use different computers and browsers both at home and at work so I am pretty sure it is not any Ebay setting I control. This has to something on Ebay's end. I see numerous postings on this issue but nothing from Ebay that is helping. This is frustrating.

Yep, me too, makes it easy to NOT buy anything!!!! Not only do you have too many windows open to keep track or even remember what's what, BUT every return click from all of these windows returns you to the very beginning of your search. Figuring out how to make this one work is a total pain, and not worth the trouble. What a way for people seriously browsing to NOT BUY SOMETHING. I end up closing all the windows and going to my home page and then logging out in frustration. This is really bad from a seller and a buyer's perspective, and I am both, but increasingly getting away from eBay, closing down my store. They lost me with managed payments, I really liked using Paypal as a seller and a buyer. But they don't listen to us.

Me too. I'm not a seller, just a buyer. I've taken all of Ebays changes in stride over the last 25 years but this is just plain annoying. Makes shopping sooo difficult. Ebay, listen up!

How did you get your Avatar to show....?

Where do they hide this "opt out" setting? I've been digging for 30 minutes and can't find it!

It has been randomly doing that when I open any ebay page...it opens a second one and gives me a security error on that second page

Yes, it's definitely frustrating and annoying. Bad user experience. If I wanted to launch a new tab, then I would. Every time it happens, I immediately leave eBay and go to Amazon.

This is an old thread that will likely be locked soon.
There is a way to stop this from happening, but I can not find the thread where it was outlined.
Will try to find it now..................

FOUND IT - thanks to eburtonlab
If you mean that search results are opening in a new tab when you click on item listings, there is a setting in your search results customization menu you can change to prevent that.
From the search results, click on the "customize" link in the upper right where you can choose between list and gallery view:
Change the setting to "Open item page" in "Same tab" to prevent new tabs from opening
