IMPORTANT NEWS - PLEASE READ

If you don't opt out then your listing photos can be used by other sellers Please read. You can go to the page, itself if you like - you decide if you want to let Ebay do this or not. http://pages.ebay.com/sell/July2009Update/faq/index.html#optout Will eBay automatically consider my photos for inclusion in the eBay product catalog? Yes, eBay will begin to select photos from sellers' listings for inclusion in the eBay product catalog starting on September 1. If you don't want your photos used, you can opt out at any time. If you opt out by August 31, 2009 at 23:59:59 PT, none of your photos will be considered for inclusion in the catalog unless you opt back in at a later time. If you opt out after August 31, 2009 23:59:59 PT, any photos we select for inclusion in the catalog prior to your opt-out may continue to be used in the catalog. How do I opt out of having my photos considered for use in the eBay product catalog? You can opt out of having your photos considered for use in the eBay product catalog, by following these steps: * Click My eBay at the top of any eBay page. You may be asked to sign in. * Choose the Account tab at the top of the page * Click on Site Preferences in the left hand margin * Click on Selling Preferences * Click on the "Show" link to the right of Share your photos * Click on the "Edit" link next to "Consider photos I upload in the listing process for inclusion in the eBay product catalog and other product offerings." * Click the checkbox that states "If you'd like to opt-out of this program, please do so by checking this box and clicking the "Submit" button below." * Click the "Submit" button. Do others a favor and post this on other groups you belong to. Spread the word because this is something Ebay is keeping quiet on.

Re: IMPORTANT NEWS - PLEASE READ

Just for the heckuvit, I did a double-check on what page I was on, and the title bar up top still said eBay.com, not eBay.ca. When I need to use the messaging system, it signs me out of .com and I have to re-sign in on .ca to make it work. Strange that doing all of this didn't make me do that. -- "Dogs are dumm!" ~Heather

It was like that with me in Oz. I had troubles changing over. Had to get with live chat. As you can see, if you go to opt out, your images show how they will be seen, and will give you credit with a link to your ID. You can't put your website on your image, but can put your user ID. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

Re: IMPORTANT NEWS - PLEASE READ

You can't put your website on your image, but can put your user ID. I've seen a lot of people put web site URLs on images, especially the sports card dealers. When I buy penny sleeves and toploaders, the sellers are usually sports cards people, and very often they have their web site URL across the image. I guess there's a lot of competition in that area, so sellers are doing what they can to stop the other dealers from taking their photos. I've also seen web addresses on Beanie Babies and other collectibles (Beanie Baby photos get "borrowed" all the time). I would imagine that it's against ebay's policy, but it doesn't seem like too many items are getting pulled over it. In many cases, it's a faint watermarked, so probably goes undetected. -- Kathy

Re: IMPORTANT NEWS - PLEASE READ

I always assumed that the only time people would get a slap on the wrist was if someone complained - and I would expect that in a competitive market, competitors would complain about each other. Of course I got a listing pulled for being in the wrong category, which I was very pizzed off at. It was a vintage Playboy calendar that wasn't even terribly racy... and it was listed in the pin-up category, along with quite a few other similar calendars. To this day I don't know why my listing was singled out. That was kind of around the time I stopped listing anyway. It rather soured my experience with eBay. -- "Dogs are dumm!" ~Heather

Re: IMPORTANT NEWS - PLEASE READ

I can't make any sense out of what gets pulled and what doesn't. Try reporting art fraud - they NEVER pull the item, even when you provide proof. Yet they remove items for the silliest of reasons. Several months back when McDonald's was having their Monopoly game, I had several winning game pieces for free hamburgers. I don't eat meat, so listed them on ebay in the coupon category. Ebay pulled the coupons for being "lottery tickets." Yes, there WAS a game code to an online game that appeared on the coupons, but the game had already ended. That whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth, too. -- Kathy

That whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth, too. A few hamburgers should take care of that.

It IS against policy to have websites on images. You WILL (sooner or later) get your listing pulled because of it. I know of some ACEO members this has happened to. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!
