Fake bids

Hi all, I have experienced a bidder 2 weeks ago that bid left feedback and stated they've submitted payment. Won't answer emails so now I have reported them to ebay. Also this week I just received an email from a bidder who claims that they did not bid on my item and someone stole their password. I suggested that they contact ebay for a bid retraction. My reason for this post is to "get the word out" and maybe watch for trends. I am not really sure if this is common? I haven't really ever seen it before. Both of these bidders didn't have any current feedback and I am not sure why it is happening. My aceos aren't expensive either. Thanks and I hope your sales go a little smoother than mine. I have blocked the first bidder and when the 2nd one gets their bid retracted I will be blocking them too. Thanks for your time, Joy

Since I have spent a good deal of time searching out this information - and that was just a very small search - I am not going to be in a big hurry to list much at this time. We are remodeling our house right now. Completely redid our 3/4 bath - had to take a jackhammer to the shower in there because it was put in so badly - we hadn't used that shower for years because it leaked through it's floor. We have just the plumbing left in the main bath which is suppose to be done today. Everything new in that bath also - even the tub. Love the tile floors we have in the baths now. Our contractor has some other jobs he has to do so it will be about 3 to 4 weeks that we will have to wait for our new living room floor and into the hallway - wood laminate - we are putting in the new kind that has the protection right on the panels and the pattern looks like real wood. So then we have painting throughout - have picked out the colors and onto the kitchen. New counter, redo the cabinets and put in new stove top which will be changed from electric to gas - yea! Whew - this all is going to take a long time - hope we can get everything done by the end of the year. JudyB

Besides my sales have also slowed down considerably all of a sudden. Which I guess is fine because that makes it so I'm not pushing myself to have a lot of items on at this time. JB

Okay, here's a freaky one that I'm still scratching my head over. A few months ago I sold a decal to a newbie who had only registered that day. He paid immediately. An hour later, I went to print a shipping label, and he was NARU. Since he had paid for the item, I called CS and asked them what to do. The rep said, "Since we saw fit to . . . er . . . I mean . . . since he's no longer registered, you should refund via PayPal and not ship." I'm trying to figure out how someone who joined, bought , and PAID could go NARU in a matter of hours. I checked the guy's bidding history, and he had only purchased two items, including the one from me. Weirder than weird, some of the stuff that is going on here. -- Kathy

Hey i want those IDs so I can block them! LOL. Seriously though I don't need a headache. Out of curiosity - what was the HIGHEST price the fake bidders grabbed? Were they all like under 2 or 3 bucks? Higher? Lower? Any sort of pattern? I got 9 (maybe 10) ACEOs that had been sitting on my desk for the last month that I finished up and want to list this weekend ... and I never sell an original for lower than 4.99 (prints I sell for lower, but that's cuz it's a print). Just curious on the price ranges they seemed to be jumping at. -- ~Faerydae Click to grow:

Just from reading this thread, it looks like $3 or less is the price range that they're hitting. I would think if you go higher than $5 then you might be okay. Really, I'd try for $6.95 or higher. The weird buyer that I had seemed to be a different situation, but he did buy the cheapest thing I had . . . a $2 item. -- Kathy

I had a bidder on my other ID bid & win an item. It started out at 99 cents & sold to him/her for $3 & change. Never paid. After 3 emails - no response. Also he/she had not bought anything since August of 08. I did file a dispute & won. It may be entirely possible this account WAS hijacked. But the emails had to go somewhere! Sue

"Ya know, kids, this is why I'm closing my eBay store and moving inventory over to "the Ranch" (starts with B). I'll still list some new art here at auction and a few other things at fixed price, but it's just getting too weird." Any luck over there, Ann? I closed my store once and for all yesterday. Like you said, things getting too weird. That, and terrible sales out of the store. In the last three months, probably 75 sales total, and only three of them from the store. That's $45 in fees for $15 in sales? Nahhhhh . . . I don't think so. Goodbye little red door. Interesting, when I've closed my store in the past they've always asked me to take a survey about why I closed the store and what they could do better. Didn't get the survey this time. I guess they know the answers by now, so why bother asking? -- Kathy

No sales yet, but quite a few lookers over on the B (wait, I'm sounding like someone else we know) and my items have been chosen by random sellers for at least 10 hand-picked lists. I don't expect things to be gangbusters yet, and I like the features and options over there. At least my items are getting noticed. I did just launch my first e-newsletter with a section about my B booth - that sent some curious folks over to take a peek. I specifically targeted my past eBay customers with that one. I'll launch the second wave of the newsletter on Monday - that'll go to everyone else. Spent today compiling and importing the rest of my contacts list. I'll close my eBay store this weekend. It's funny, since I made the firm decision to close, I've made 3 sales! 2 fixed price and one from the store. But I'm still closing - the money I save toward monthly store fees is going toward the new e-newsletter account. -- -Ann "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend - inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." ~ Groucho Marx

* * POOF * * Just like that, my red door is gone too! Well it's gone from my profile anyway. I DID see the squirrel head over there Kathy 🙂 Glad it wasn't some other part of the squirrel! -- -Ann "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend - inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." ~ Groucho Marx -- Edited by drawdog5 at 04/24/2009 7:15 PM PDT

I'm guessing this is a dumb question, but here goes.... I'm assuming there's some legal reason we can't have a thread that we can put these fake bidders on as they pop up? I just thought it would be handy for everyone if we added to it as they rear their ugly heads & others could block them. I figure if eBay isn't going to do something to stop them, maybe we can.

Not a dumb question at all. Ebay won't permit it on these boards. HOWEVER, you can start such a list on an off-eBay site. If you haven't already joined, go check out our NING group at aceoenthusiasts DOT ning DOT com. You can start a thread over there. In fact, I think there might already be a "bad bidder" thread that was started by someone else. -- Kathy
