I offered a guy 360.00 on a 400.00 ask. He said ok. When I went back the next day to pay, the price was 400.00. And people wonder why buyers are becoming scarce.

Did you make the offer via the "make an offer" button, or did you just message the seller?  Make an offer only works as far as follow up goes if you use the "make an offer" button.  If that button isn't on the listing, then the seller is not entertaining offers on it.

I really don't know what sells on Ebay anymore.  I have listed cheap, quality items on there that will

not sell at all and I have seen more expensive items that did sell.  I used to sell everything on Ebay.

I have sold used lawn mowers, microwave ovens, books, furniture, paintings. ect,  but when I list drop

ship items they don't sell at all.  I really can figure this out.

Free listing means morons try to sell items for WAY more than I can get them ANYWHERE, which means I'm WASTING my precious time in searches for REASONABLY prices items.

In case you didn't know, you CAN change search results to sort by lowest price first, which sounds like that would be your best bet since you're clearly looking for only low priced items.

It seems like about the time Ebay added sales tax to all used items is about the time when people quit buying.

Also it is possible that Covid-19 has had a negative effect on freelance production gigs.

It is true that nothing is selling and hasn't been for several months.  I get a few offers but they are so low it's just an insult.

Same here.  When I look up items like mine, all I see are India listings for under $10.00. There's no option to even promote an item. What a waste of time.

Nailed it! Most people don't calculate in their leg work, time/gas money, "free shipping" fees, shipping materials. They may count in their monthly/annual store fee, their final value fees (11.5-14.5% in most cases, even for stores!) but they don't count in the little things that really do add up! "Free shipping" is SO NOT FREE! You're working FOR Ebay when all is said and done and you're not even making a living wage! And you're exhausted and stressed out trying to meet their ridiculous demands for seller performance and weirder skewed 5 star system. And these demands of "Fast 'n Free Guarantees", and dealing with non paying bidders and "lowball Best Offers"  that they seem to insist listings have. I've even had them take it upon themselves to CHANGE some of my listings I specifically listed as just "Buy it now" and they changed it to "Best Offer" and put THEIR price in! That's where I drew the line. Ebay wants to be Amazon so they are driving out the flea market sellers...go with it because....THERE IS NO MEAT LEFT ON THE BONE...YOU'RE GETTING THE BONE!

Re: Nothing sells on eBay anymore what's up with that !

Meanwhile I had a record year last year....  You MUST put in the legwork and screen time research for your items, what they sell for on average (not what people are asking... what they SELL FOR) and how people ship them BEFORE you start listing.  You also should be looking up what your listings will cost you at the end of a sale, so you know what you will make and whether an item is worth your time in listing.  All this information is available on the website here for you to look up if you'll just take the time to do so.  If you aren't putting in the work, don't expect to do as well as other sellers who ARE putting in the work.  I don't say this to be snarky, but we have seen this topic bounce back up to the top of the thread list SO many times, and 99 times out of 100 it's a situation where if a seller would take the time to look up all this info first, you would know what you're going to make on your items when they sell.

Re: Nothing sells on eBay anymore what's up with that !

Part of the problem is with eBay. I have been selling on EBay about 15 years. It was reasonable to sell on eBay at first but now the final value fees are higher, they now collect the payments rather than PayPal and take a week to get you the funds, they charge final value fees on shipping listing fees are higher and they even make money on your shipping. I sell items that average about 200 dollars and with all the charges they are making way more than I am.

Yes,  I am so slow. Usually I sell something everyday but now I'm lucky to sell something once a month.  Feeling defeated.

Another issue is the payouts that take days to receive. It's not bad enough I'm selling anything when I do sell something it takes a  long time to get the money...

I do not know what to sell anymore..

Re: Nothing sells on eBay anymore what's up with that !

This is such a old post. It's 6 years old.

Anyway i am a buyer here. I am in the market for vintage cameras. I buy super 8mm camera and film photography camera.

There are tons of super 8mm camera being listed however i am going to buy the best models Canon,Beaulieu,Nikon.  I paid 400$ with shipping for a Canon. I would pay that and even more for a Beaulieu but would not even pay 50$ for a Sears model.

It depends what you sell.

Re: Nothing sells on eBay anymore what's up with that !

I do not find it so, there is nothing left for me, in fact on many items there is a minus after the final value fees and now the taxes. It is just ridiculous! I will not be bothering anymore because it is not worth it.

Nothing Uncle said is not true.  You HAVE to do your research, and KNOW what the type of items you're selling or wanting to sell are actually BRINGING.  NOT what people are asking for them.  Do a search for one of your items, then on the left side of the page (if you're on a computer) look at the menu and click "sold items".  This will tell you what those items are actually bringing.  If you can't sell your items for that price, then you OVERpaid for the items in the first place.  Your PROFIT, as he said, is in WHAT YOU PAY for your items initially.  If you overpay, OF COURSE you can't come out on top, that's just simple mathmatics.  You CAN look up what the fees are for selling here and have all that information ahead of time.  As for sales taxes, those do not come out of your sale, eBay tacks them on, on top of what your buyer pays, so they don't cost you anything, this is how sales tax works for a business.  The business collects the tax from the customer and forwards it to the appropriate state.  You DO pay sales tax if you are a buyer, obviously.

The only way to really come out in the long run on eBay is to look at the LONG game.  Your expenses are key.  I buy padded envelope mailers in the 2 sizes I use either 250 or 500 at a time.  Yes, I have to keep them stored in a few Rubbermaid tubs, but they don't go bad, they keep just fine.  Buy purchasing them this way (usually I buy them here on eBay), I can get them for between 5 and 10 cents each, where if I go to Walmart or the office store, they're going to set me back between 60-70 cents each.  That's FREE MONEY, basically, but you have to look at the long game to see it.   I buy label rolls for my Brother label printer here on eBay usually either 6 or 12 rolls at a time.  Again, much cheaper than buying at the office store, about 75% less expensive.  If you don't have one, buy a postal scale and get the exact weight for your items, and NEVER overpay for postage again.  If you know the weight and dimensions, you can put those in the listing's shipping section and use eBay calculated shipping to give each potential buyer their own personal shipping quote that will be correct, and keeps you from having figure out shipping.   I've been on eBay for over 20 years and these are all just little things I have picked up over time.  Using eBay postage will save you money over going to the post office.  Buying a scale and a postage printer will save you both time AND money, and will pay for themselves within just a few sales.

Hang in there, do some research, and good luck, you CAN do this.

PS:  We all have slow sales periods at times, don't sweat it too much if you've done all your research and legwork, it will come back around.  I would also suggest following some of the more popular sellers in your category so you can pick up on some things they're doing and imitate them.  Learn from your competitors.
