As you know, fees vary across categories as eBay always strives to achieve lowest total fees across category competitors. Starting on March 1, 2022, final value fees for Store sellers and those without a store will increase slightly. You can learn more about that here, or review the fee comparison chart here. Feel free to ask any questions below!

Hi, any thoughts about the best way to handle shipping charges. I set up all of my items estimating the shipping cost. Then realized I lost 15% as eBay takes a cut of the shipping costs.
I recently went back and added 15% to some of my larger tens and now my customers see that I charge more than the actual cost. In my advertising of some items I had a statement that if the charge was over my cost I refunded the difference.
I have no idea why eBay charges on shipping?? Any thoughts. My goal is to be transparent to my customers but do not like telling them I added 15% to cover eBay?

Will the 'Additional Fixed Price Free Insertions in Select Categories' continue past July, 2022? Will 'Select Categories' be expanded?

1.) uncheck the box that shows the shipping cost on the label. I've done this for 11 years and have NEVER heard a word about it
2.) If you don't want to do that, the shipping label is ONLY A PORTION of the shipping cost; so, if you have to explain that to a customer- DON'T BE AFRAID to. 15% fee on top of the $10 on top of $2 worth of tape, bubblewrap, shipping label (I use actual peel/stick labels) and ink in the printer all adds up etc. I have YET to find an item that will just jump in the box and wrap itself.
Many of my competitors charge a flat rate MINIMUM of $10.95 to ship something as small as a pen cap; and have been doing that since 2008 that I know of.
Bottom Line; 90% of the world has no clue what something costs to ship. Add 20% "handling" to the shipping cost if you are using 'calculated'.
I just use a flat rate, $5 for 1st Class, $10 for smaller Priority, then $15 and $20.

@mr_lincoln I just bought stickers and had to pay more. The cost of the tape is way up too, but I didn't need tape this time.

I don't know how long it is going to be until we are the sellers will realize that ebay is not the profitable platform with all the increases in fees and promoted listings that they offer and the 30 cents for each transaction to send your few $$ to the bank. and on top of that is the store subscription fees.
Actually I was expecting from Ebay to lower the fees, after they got us (the sellers) hostages in the ebay managed payment program.
I hope they wave some fees Like the store subscription and the 30 Cent transaction fee, and lower final value fee.

Cool. I make more sales on the place that rhymes with Bercari anyway. And for higher prices and profit. There are viable alternatives to feeBay.

There hasn't been one happy positive member post here yet, so I think eBay has changed their mind and wants to hide now.

Only a short while ago, the switch to Managed Payments was touted as costing the same or even less than Paypal. It's ironic how short lived that was.

Are you aware that last year PayPal raised their fees too. They went from 2.9% to up to 3.49% and from 30 cents per transaction to 49 cents. So I guess it depends on what numbers you may want to compare things to.

Higher fees usually indicate a hurting business taking on more expenses. They pass it on to sellers, sellers pass it on to buyers, buyers and sellers move on to other platforms of which there are plenty and the next solution is always to increase fees again. And they handle and collect our sales revenue! I’ve been on here 24 years and eBay is but a shadow of its self.

Not what I wanted to see.
(Price of item + shipping + tax) x 12.55% +.30 = 15%-22% of the price of the item.
Add in:
time to take photos
time to list item
time to answer questions
time package item
cost of shipping supplies
gas to go to post office
cost of item
Hmmmm.

The problem with the fee structure is how it applies to sales tax.
Most of our customers pay an average of $50-60 based on their local tax rates, but I had one customer today pay as much as $93. PayPal's processing fee for the tax portion on that order would have been $3.25 — and my inhouse terminal would have been even lower (2%-2.5%) — but we ultimately paid a fee of $9.95 at the current 10.7%. Now imagine having to also pay those same fees on the cost of truck freight, which often averages in the hundreds of dollars... not fun.
As much as eBay promoted Managed Payments to be the 'next best thing' with all these potential cost saving benefits, it honestly feels like we were swindled into a new cc processing contract by a fast-talking telemarketer... but instead of a con-artist taking us for a ride, it's actually a billion-dollar ecommerce giant.

Higher fees ... Lower value.
