Free lisings offers

I have been a member since 1998 and upload new listings every day.  Why am I not getting free promotion offers, only for favorite sellers?  I do have a store and getting fed up with ebay practices.

Apologies - I had meant free listings, not insertion fees. A small typo there @quiltedlingcod!

Re: Free lisings offers

These changes do show that they really no longer want the small companies and mom and pops that made them a big company in the first place.  They feel they have outgrown us and now want the big guys and big stores around and that is how these changes will play out.  I will continue my month to month premium store for now, but will not list anything over the 1000 listings each month as I refuse to give Ebay 1 penny more than I have to unless it is for a sale.

I'm right there with you.

I had a basic eBay store for many years and closed it 4-5 years ago.

When I reach the 50 free listing per month for us "casual" sellers, that's it.  I'll hold my new listings for the next month or take my stuff to my space in the antiques co-op.

Re: Free lisings offers

I'm thinking of opening a basic store. I don't want to but I'm feeling forced into it simply because I have around 500 listings written that I am no longer getting promos to list. I am trying to clear out my inventory and quit the business. I am even in (or was before I stopped getting the promos) the process of shifting my Amazon inventory to Ebay. I make my tiny living off of it now, but I can see the writing on the wall. I seriously think that a year from now we will all have more to worry about than Ebay fees...especially considering the upcoming elections and their world-wide ramifications...and I am planning my business accordingly.

Maybe I'll try being a truck farmer. It has to be more relaxing and probably more profitable since people always need food!

Final Value Fee rates updated to reward low-cost shipping

As announced in March, fee updates for eBay Store subscribers become effective today—Final Value Fee rates for Auction-style and Fixed Price listings have been reduced and will apply to the total amount of the sale, including shipping.

Also, starting today, Fixed Price Final Value Fee rates for sellers without an eBay Store will be reduced and applied to the total amount of the sale.  See other fee updates that took place in April for sellers without an eBay Store.

Keep shipping costs low to get the lowest fees and attract buyers to your listing. Here’s how:

  • Get discounted USPS rates with eBay label printing. Added benefit: tracking information is automatically uploaded to eBay and emailed to your buyer.
  • Sign up for UPS discounts for eBay sellers and eBay PowerSellers.
  • If you’re a high-volume seller, you may qualify for negotiated rates –contact your carrier.
  • Move as much of your shipping cost as possible into your item price and still stay competitive. You’ll pay lower Final Value Fees and maximize your Top-rated seller discount.
  • Make your first domestic shipping option FREE shipping and you’ll pay NO fees on shipping!

Remember: when an international or 1-day shipping service is offered and selected by your buyer, your Final Value Fee is calculated on the least expensive of your options—your international/1-day option OR the first domestic service offered other than 1-day. If your buyer chooses international shipping and you specified free shipping as your first domestic option, you pay zero Final Value Fees on shipping.

See Shipping Best Practices for more tips.

@lacemaker3

No it was when Ebay announced that they were going to start charging the 10% FVF on the shipping charges which up until that time had never been subject to Ebays fees.  I understood why Ebay was charging the fee as the few ruined it for the rest by charging almost nothing for the item and then making up all the cost in the shipping costs.  So an item that sold for $100 would probably be listed as Item Sold $1 (Ebay fee $.10 as I don't remember the fees back then), Shipping $99 (Ebay fees $0) so on a $100 sale Ebay made a whopping $0.10.  But in return for that change ebay committed to more free listings which they have done until recently.

Now if you look at how things have really worked out the Anchor Stores suddenly go up to 10,000 listings monthly with a major price increase which also happens to include access via a special number to the cream of the crop CSR's (which is what the increase is really all about, not the listings).  So now the free listings that were spread around to almost everybody since everybody is paying the extra 10% FVF on shipping are mainly being given to the Anchor Stores.  So once again Ebay is showing that they really prefer Mega Sellers and would just as soon the smaller sellers went away as we probably cost them money in their minds.  One of the Blues even told one seller they could close their account by June 4 with no termination fee.  Later that was "oh that was misinterpreted as to what I was saying" but it is just like it was when the shipping changes came in during the 2015 Fall Seller Update and people were worried about not maintaining the 93% let alone 97% on time shipping metrics, the blues recommended changing their handling time out to 2-3 days, which would just happen to cost them their 20% discount for TRS+ which seemed to be the goal at the time.

Ebay does not seem to want our business as sellers as we are just to small for their liking, but they fail to realize the amount of buying power they lose each time one of us leaves.  I can't remember the last time I transferred cash to my bank account from my Paypal account.  I use it for purchasing things I need online, but if I close my store and leave, so does that spending.

I don't mind them shooting themselves in the foot, but I hate that they're shooting us in the heart of America's small businesses. From the end of the promotional listings, to forced returns, to the 30% Buy-it-Now "rule", I'm beginning to understand how the dinosaurs felt.....

Just curious has anyone asked if the cream of the crop CS service one recieves with an Anchor Store is a dedicated account CS rep,or just the "BEST" of the current outsourced overseas CS reps?

Not that it would matter to me, as I will NEVER have a Anchor Store, but just wondering HOW that CS perk will work in reality?

No they did not address that specifically but from the way the responses were written I think that the CSR's will also be answering other calls but when a call comes in on the special number it will be routed to one of these "special" reps.  Some major accounts do already have a dedicated manager they call for help with their issues so this sounds like its actually a step below that, or maybe they are replacing these managers with this service.  I remember reading a thread recently from a large seller whose large accounts manager left and they still did not have a replacement manager 6 months later, and that was about 2 months ago when this would have already been in the planning.  Maybe this is how they are fixing that problem by eliminating another level of employees at Ebay and replacing them with the overseas supposedly better CSR's.  I did read one of the answers from the Blues where it was implied that the new dedicated CSR's were not necessarily going to be US based or have English as their main language.

I can tolerate the outsourcing if the reps could be understood, but they are getting harder and harder to understand and less and less knowledgeable about American culture and how things are done and when it comes to USPS they are useless.  They are also clueless as to Ebay policy and just reread the same script over and over until you give up and call back.  Then Ebay wonders why their CSR's are so inundated with calls.

The announcement I posted was the announcement when they started charging the FVF on the shipping charges (July 2011).

I was actively selling at the time, or had recently stopped, and I had been a powerseller for years when I stopped selling, and had been in the top rated seller program since it started (Oct 2009). I don't remember them ever saying anything about offering extra free listings to "make up for" charging fees on the entire payment made by the buyer.

The only thing that even comes close is this announcement title that says the changes to the Final Value Fees were being done to "reward low-cost shipping".

Re: Free lisings offers

It does appear that eBay is trying to 'shut out' certain ones, the smaller sellers, etc.  By not offering the periodical insertion fee sales, I suspect they feel it will force most sellers into opening an eBay store.  Bad for us - some of us can't maintain the monthly fee.  I suspect they also know that after 90 days, items drop off your unsold list, and you either have to use Turbo Lister, or redo your listings when and if an insertion fee sale comes along.  I think what they don't realize is that most of us are ACTIVELY SEEKING other arenas to sell in.  They may have the market 'cornered' for now, but that won't always be the case.  It's just a bummer that the little guy, the one that helped eBay get established into prominence, is the one that is getting thrown under the bus.  And, I am, to use the old-timey vernacular, just 'talking to hear myself talk,' as I'm sure eBay really doesn't care about how this is playing out for the little guy.  Ain't that the way it always is?

Re: Free lisings offers

When I combine the eBay suggestions I get on items I didn't sell along with the new eBay policies the message I get is:  " I should pay eBay more and lower my prices while giving free shipping and free returns for any reason the "so-called" buyer deems desireable for at least 30 days which is really 180 Paypal days.

I thought the new seller evaluation protocols would be a huge help but it's all just another big joke on us.

Ebay hasn't given us any "free listings" since January either and of course our sales are now "ZERO".   I guess I know when I'm not wanted. I sold no items last month and I'm not really expecting any sales this month either.

Re: Free lisings offers

All of these things that they are doing to "TICK OFF" the Small to Medium Sellers is going to bite Ebay in the butt.  Amazon is already beating them in Market Share. Once they lose all of their Small to Medium sellers,  they don't realize that they''re market share is going to fall bigtime. When they lose Angry sellers, it is going to be very hard if not almost impossible for them to get these customres back.  I was in outside sales for 20 years and that is CUSTOMER SERVICE 101.  Keep people happy because it is 10 times easier to keep a customer than to get one back. Plus one angry customer can tell 50 people and it's much easier to spread negativity now that we have Social Media.  Us Small to Medium sellers are Ebay's customers and collectively we make up a huge percentage of their Online Market Share.  It doesn't speak well of their leaders character if they aren't concerned about us, our business, our cash flow and our profits. They're leaders should be Advocates for their Sellers but it seems like they only care about the buyers.

I have the BASIC level store and can't afford to upgrade to a bigger store. I don't have enough merchandise to sustain a bigger store so I fall right in between the 2 levels. Plus, if I did ever find more merchandise and move up I would have to hire someone to help me. I don't want to hire anyone so I need to keep my store small enough so that I can do everything myself, hence the term "SMALL BUSINESS".   I rely HEAVILY on the FREE LISTING promos to boost my sales because I find I need to have at least 500-700 listings to get to a Maximum Sales Level for my store. If they were "MARKET AWARE"  or did any studies they would find that there are a lot of us that fall in between their STORE LEVELS. They are not doing anything about  filling this gap and meeting our NEEDS. Who made up these Arbitrary LEVELS? I would like to hear their reasoning behind them because they don't make sense to us who have been doing this for a while.  Can't they see that there is a HUGE GAP that they are not covering??

I haven't seen any LISTING PROMOS in months. It's common sense that they would make more money off me in final value fees if they gave me one.  Instead of forcing me to move up and pay for a bigger store, they are forcing me to build my own website so I can sell direct and be able to keep all of my merchandise online at once.  With the beauty of GOOGLE, FACEBOOK, and LINKEDIN where I am well connected, when someone is looking for me they will still find me. I am also checking out all of the other online avenues like Shopify and Amazon and local avenues like a "TRUNK SALE" where I send invites to all of the ladies at my Country Club(I sell ladies golf clothing)  and all of the competing Country Clubs in our Golf league.  They will force other sellers to look at other Marketing Channels as well if they don't wake up.  This gradual EROSION of their business will kill them in the long run!

Re: Free lisings offers

All I know is I am old and can not handle a store. So I list my 50 free. IF the Five cents for a buy now for 30 days would come back it would make it so easy for me. But, it is no longer Five Cents per listing for 30 days Buy Now.  I have a lot of stuff but sells are so slow that I lose money listing...   Little sellers need FREE LISTING so we can list a lot and EBAY EARNS A LOT FROM US. At 80 years old I am doing the best I can.

I keep getting the threads from Books in my emails and it has gotten to be "to many" HOW DO I STOP THEM...
