Ebay's Final Value Fees Too High!

Am I the only one that is concerned with ebay's recent increase in final value fees?  Ebay is making it hard to make even a small profit off items sold!

you add it to your start up price

Then your item may become less attractive to potential buyers who are more than likely shopping for the best deal (read that as "the lowest price"). Which by the way, is also a big NEGATIVE for ebay buyers. The only ones making out like a bandit here is, well... EBay! Customers be da*ned! Both buyers and sellers.

Ebay used to be great, but have lost their way. People shop eBay for price and availability of items they can't find locally. With all the fees, we're literally having to give items away or they don't sell. I'm tired of all the work to make eBay all the money. After I finish up a few more auctions, I'm through with eBay after over 20 years. I just don't need to work for them, so I'm done.

I'd give your post 20 thumbs up if I could.

I'm a casual seller of Music equipment and instruments and every time I get this 20% hit on the back end it's like a stab in the back. I'm an IT director and with their automated system it should be getting cheaper for them to service users and manage their database/Web front end. Instead they are getting greedy and jacking up the prices for exponentially larger profits and no other reason. There are many more avenues to sell online and and viable competition. I would advise us all to look elsewhere. Ebay thinks they re too big to fail and we should all pull out to prove them wrong!

Good idea but they already have enough money to rival God and they own Paypal, which will still be making money even if ebay were to fold tomorrow. Remember, Amazon accepts PayPal as does a vast number of vendors...

This is what I got running a hypothetical figure there and was amazed at the process. EVERYTHING is taken into consideration and everything is laid out feewise, your entire transaction is laid out with clarity. Your purchase price when you bought it, the shipping that you paid when you bought it, your now selling price, your future shipping cost, the CLEAR fees which will be assessed after the sale, no fees TAXED for your shipping and then it shows your profit margin percentages and your actual profit amount when all of the above are taken into consideration. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now THAT'S how you should do business!!!!!!!!!!!

my thought too, charge for shipping and the item. then paypal charges, not worth selling any more. A lot of people have quit. and I m selling less and less, not fun anymore.

Re: Ebay's Final Value Fees Too High!

My last sales, I lost money on because of the eBay listing fees.  By the time I shipped, I was out a significant amount of money.  I did try to take it all into account when listing, but that made the price too high and nobody bought, so I had to adjust the price, got socked for another listing fee, wound up selling for less, paid extra fees on multiple items.

I don't even want to sell on eBay any more

Ebay is pocketing all the profits from fees! Fees are too high! Small profit for the seller.

Re: Ebay's Final Value Fees Too High!

make it hard right back, start deleting listings.  i've removed over 300 so far.  all they get is a bunch of low-ball watchers waiting on you to lower the price so they can get it for a cheaper price then you be left without making anything.  i got a new rule for myself.  if it sits on ebay for more than a month and up to two months, i remove it and put it on another site or just get rid of it by other means.  i mean really, who wants to sit on the same item for months upon months then end up letting someone have it for super cheap then they re-list it and make the money on it.  i'd really feel some type of way if that happened to me.  but back to the subject matter... ebay fees are ridiculous.  it seems like they be charging you 3 times for your stuff especially when they send you that invoice and you really haven't even seen the other percentage they are charging you for... they charge for shipping, then they charge an item fee and a final value fee, that sure sounds like three charges to me.  i'll continue deleting listings.  it may not hurt them, but i really don't give two squirts right now about ebay.

Re: Ebay's Final Value Fees Too High!

Absolutely! I had started listing items on eBay over a decade ago. Back then I could see a small profit on my items. At that time I also started using online forums to offer up some of my items, which afforded me a slightly higher profit margin than ebay. Fast forward to today's ebay prices/fee structure and there is no longer any meat on the bone for the sellers. Why list on eBay only to see a loss, not in profit but actually a loss on your acquisition price paid? I have several hundred dollars worth of items to list but after using a fees calculator, I determined that ebay would end up making more profit on the sales than I would. If the fees were reasonable I would use ebay as a selling platform but the fees have gotten way out of hand. EBay has become too greedy and I foresee that actually costing them customers in the end. Hey ebay, we can't all be power sellers. Some of us simply try to subsidize our income or retirement with a little extra in order to get by. EBay, like Wal-Mart, has gotten too much of a big head. The service has fallen and the prices have risen. I am currently listing my items for free in online classified forums and couldn't be happier. Facebook is loaded with selling forums. Pick one or two... or ten. List away and see what happens to your bottom line. There are still people using ebay (for the moment) until they realize that there's a whole other world out there... and once the mass population realizes and locates these options, EBAY WILL GO THE WAY OF BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO STORES. As people learn of the FREE selling options ebay will realize that their greed has cost them everything in the future. LISTEN UP EBAY! I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE ALREADY WORTH MULTI BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. I GET THAT. BUT IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED AS YOUR CURRENT INCARNATION YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONCIDER A MORE ATTRACTIVE (to sellers) FEE STRUCTURE. WITHOUT SELLERS, there will be nothing for consumers to purchase.

Re: Ebay's Final Value Fees Too High!

I agree I just got my invoice today and couldn't believe it last time I was okay with it but this time with the promoted listings and everything it's just not good to sell on eBay it's better to just go to Amazon or some other place eBay is just ripping us off the only people who really make money is eBay at the end of the day 10% plus promoted listings then on top of that PayPal 30% and they said that they're not with eBay but everybody knows people is a eBay company they only split so that way people can't harass them honestly without promoted listings you don't sell s*** eBay sucks now no you're not the only one the only thing that we can do is just stop selling on here they don't protect us anyway everything is in the reasonable Prospect of the buyer if you send the buyer something genuine and they say it's fake they automatically get their money back and get to keep the item and we stuck with the bill it's b******* man
