My CRP* has been working since April of 1965, with no end in sight. To the best of my recollection, it has never dropped a call, has great fidelity and works in all weather.
*Corded rotary phone.

I have a vintage rotary phone that I keep on hand. I had it plugged in after a hurricane several years ago (no cell service for several days). A young neighbor girl came over to play with my kids and when we showed her the rotary phone, she was confused as to how it worked. But, it was fun for the kids to try it out while we needed it.

I went from an iPhone with a $80 a month plan to a prepaid "flip style" phone for $15 a month.

no, I don't have a smartphone. I do have a flip phone for emergencies on the road.
Same here. But I often forget to put minutes on my old tracfone or charge it unless something like a hurricane comes along.

I cannot live without my smartphone..I was one of the chosen ones at Amazon to try the Alexa in my car and it's been heaven sent..
I do enjoy the ease of asking my phone or Alexa to play Korn non-stop while I am driving around..the phone has to be paired with Alexa-in-auto..

My wife talked me into a smart phone a couple years ago, but it was a complete waste of money, since all I ever use a phone for, is calls and an occasional text. The smart phone had to be charged all the time, constantly wanted to do updates, required a bogus email address that I could never log into, so I gave it up very happily.
Anything important or financial (like eBay or PP) goes through a very secure PC at home. I'm not a Luddite, I just dont see the need to be online with a phone 24/7.
YMMV.
I still go into the bank in person. Will not do anything on my PC (Vista at that). Go phone for telephone. Free Over The Air TV antenna which works fine. I keep a paper and pencil handy and I use a Filing Cabinet. Do you millinials know what that is? I hate gadgets. I have no Apps. I do nothing important online. When it all implods I will carry on as normal.

Same. It makes life so, SO much easier.
Wondering when the next bus is so I can decide whether to wait for it or just walk? Go to the bus website, boom, it tells me exactly where the next bus is and how long it will take to get to my stop.
Meeting a friend at a restaurant I've never been to before? Google maps gives me walking directions from the subway.
Realize that you forgot it was a short month and today is the 1st and you forgot to pay that bill that's due by 3 PM? No problem, just do it online from the break room at work.
Accidentally left your wallet in your locker at work and you've already ordered your drink at Starbucks? Again, no problem, just pay with the app. (Actually, this goes for any place that accepts things like Google Pay/Samsung Pay/Apple Pay)
Oh hey, I've got a coupon for a store near work and there's something I need to buy on the way home-- just pull it up on my phone, no need to go hunting for a computer and printer so I can print it out and then have to remember to bring that with me.
Whoops, tracking shows that that EMS package that's going to need a signature is out for delivery, better cut my errands short and start heading home so I can be there to sign for it instead of then having to go to the post office to pick it up tomorrow.
I could go on and on. It saves me an enormous amount of time and effort and just plain makes life far more convenient.

I second everything you said there. And it makes traveling so much easier. I was in Santa Fe recently and wasn't sure how to get to the Loretto Chapel. Google maps gave me turn by turn directions. Afterwards, we wanted a place to eat lunch withing walking distance. "Google, show me restaurants near here". Boom, list of restaurants. Picked one two blocks away, then got walking instructions to the front door.
Watch tv, movies, or read a book in the airport or on the plane. There are many more uses for travel as well. Google translate, currency conversion, etc.

And using voice to texts? Oh...it's the best thing ever..I am driving, I can just tell Alexa to send a text to my son that I am running late..or call him without me having to remove my hands from the steering wheel..

I have a smart phone and use it only for a phone cause it's smarter than me! I do have a bunch of stuff turned off because my privacy is important to me.

Oh man, yes, it's an absolute lifesaver when traveling. I went to Chicago back in June; my flight was delayed for five hours so by the time I got there, it was almost 11 PM. I used my phone to look up which restaurants around my hotel were still open at that hour so I could find a place to eat dinner without having to go out and wander aimlessly around on the streets of Chicago at night.

My son is a computer security bigwig with a major internet security and software company. He won't have one of those. He says any idiot teenager with half a brain can hack right in to one of those. They can listen in on you at any time and gain access to all your stuff. All of those "smart" gadgets are highly hackable, I don't care what anyone says.
Proceed at your own risk.

Yup, Same here no smart speakers (spying devices) in our home, car, etc. When we were offered one for free we said no and if they sent it it would just end up in our bench vise as a compression test subject.
I have a 15 year old smart phone that I use for calls, texts and research when out shopping. No apps or financial info ever. Costs me $20/mo.
