You, sir, are correct, many people don't realize the insidious nature of corporations having our best interests at hand. We turn down wholesome meals in lieu of coca cola and cheetos, and god forbid having a family night when ATT will sell you and your 4-year-old a cellphone plan for only $160 a month - then sit around the table never once looking up. orange fingers greasy gorilla glass never more.

Coffee made at home with a splash of cream is only 8 cents but unless you pay $8 for a cup of unicorn 'sugar' from starbucks then you are an uncivilized pagan (oh wait the funny name is worth it). 2-ply, no sir, nothing less than $80 a case double quilted 6 layer hand sewn comforters will touch my butt as your 6-year-old pulls off a tuff the size of a rhino head all while writing an $800 check to the plumber.

Why go to your local lake for swimming and real family fun with homemade barbeque for less than $25 when Disney says you have to spend $2500 or you don't love your kids. Did I mention Space Mountian? well you can do that in a dark basement, a cardboard box, and a staircase for free. btw, I did space mountain in 1980 and it was cool...

Take this all with a grain of salt, but rather than spending all your retirement money on a fleeting moment at Micky's try going to the appliance store and get a free refrigerator box, make a neat fort then have the kids destroy it - those memories don't die. If you only have $16 take your boy/girl or any of the other 63 variances on a local steam train ride, those kids will remember it years after any 3-hour waiting in 100-degree heat for a 30-second ride.

The last time we gave a big bucket 'o money to Disney World a couple of their rides were broken down and none of us were too thrilled with any of the food we got while we were there. My kids liked the Iowa State Fair so much more and it is so much cheaper as I am sure most state fairs are. Much better food, too!

Touche on the big bucket of money and I certainly do agree with you, but I am still confused about why the OP needs a smartphone for eBay updates?

We have the LA county fair going on right now until the end of Sept  . My youngest son took the day off from work  to go today as a matter of fact .  I haven't been there myself the last few years  because I can't handle the hot weather or the large crowds anymore . However I used to love to go  and hang out with the animals  in the livestock  areas . They were so interesting .  Tulips

I do not know about the rest of you, but my smart phone like my truck makes me enough to make it indispensable. It actually make the phrase "work smart, not hard" reality. Oh and when I don't need it, it is either off or volume off. I treat like any other tool, there for MY convenience!

I agree, but only if you use it as a tool rather than getting into a 2000-pound weapon that murders innocent people because you wanted to facetime... last week a mother was murdered 1/4 mile from my house - the killer walked away while taking pictures for their Instagram account (only had a broken ankle). Sending a text for the forgotten lettuce is not worth all the people you have to kill to get it.

That mother lived for a short time while they all tried to help her but the entangled car kept any CPR attempts away, her shallow breathe wained just before the jaws of life showed up - all while the cellphone murderer was whisked away to the hospital.

Cable version of land line is hooked up to my printer to only send/receive the occasional fax and discourage telemarketers and polsters.

Refuse to put my primary email on my antiquated Blackberry (which doesn't support virtually ANY new apps).

All Ebay is done from home base with a desktop or laptop.

Certainly in the minority, I think I've ordered something from my phone one time, I don't even enjoy doing research on that tiny screen.

I do miss my answering machine and not feeling "connected" 24/7.   Technology seems to have made us all busier.

Flip phone AND a landline phone with an answering machine, here.

My husband only carries a company issued smart phone which he has to conduct business on, even while we are on vacation---UGH!

I also only keep my cell phone for emergencies on the road, so it is kept in my car at all times. I hate the practice of being tethered to phones 24/7.

We kept the landline for the aftermath of natural disasters. Sometimes it is the only thing that works when cell towers are out of commission.

I only have a flip phone.  My wife talked me into a smart phone a couple years ago, but it was a complete waste of money, since all I ever use a phone for, is calls and an occasional text. The smart phone had to be charged all the time, constantly wanted to do updates, required a bogus email address that I could never log into, so I gave it up very happily.

Anything important or financial (like eBay or PP) goes through a very secure PC at home. I'm not a Luddite, I just dont see the need to be online with a phone 24/7.

YMMV.

I still go into the bank in person.  Will not do anything on my PC (Vista at that).     Go phone for telephone.   Free Over The Air TV antenna which works fine.   I keep a paper and pencil handy and I use a Filing Cabinet.  Do you millinials know what that is?    I hate gadgets.  I have no Apps.  I do nothing important online.   When it all implods I will carry on as normal.- unquote  ----------------

I have online  banking and I love it . It's such an incredible time and gasoline saver  I seriously doubt I'll ever go back to the old way .No longer do I  drive  5 miles to the bank just to stand in a  long long of  unruly children   with rude complacent  acting  parents who won't control them.  I'm no longer   being coughed and sneezed on  by people who are sick with contagious viruses and really  should have stayed home  . Online  banking has saved me from  all of that . I understand your other sentiments  but this one  you really should reconsider .  Tulips

P.S  I purchased this really awesome  witch cauldron  with lifelike fire  coming out of the top at the fair one year probably about 17 years ago.  I still put it out every Halloween season and it  works as though it's still new - 20 bucks

That's terrible . Once in awhile we will hear the stats on how many people are injured or killed every year  because someone was distracted by a cell phone . Around here it's a 50 dollar fine  just for being caught  with  a cell in your hand   while driving . Its extremely dangerous and even though most of us abide by the law  we still must share the roads with people  with no regard for it .. Be vigil ..  Tulips

I've honed my "stink eye" to a fine point. You want to get on my bad side, pull out a phone that dinged with a message while we are playing cards or having a meal. There is nothing more important than the people you are with, with the exception of having announced that you are waiting for contact from a doctor or a kid checking in.
