I created a label for a poster in a mailing tube on Dec 14. I dropped it at the counter of the post office along with 6 other packages on that day, 5 days ago. Now I just noticed it is still has no scan in the system at all. Tracking number comes up with nothing except "tracking number provided", and "Pre-Shipment info sent. USPS awaits Item". It was sent Ground Advantage. Thoughts on this anyone? TIA

Maybe next time stand in line, get your scan and receipt and rest easy.
My postal carrier picks up and without fail scans each and every package.
Today he was rewarded with his annual Christmas Bonus
When he is on vacation or out sick the substitutes refuse to scan
That is when I go to the Post Office and no matter how long the line wait I get my scan and receipt. Last time I was there the line was rather long and an employee was going through the line trying to speed things up. She told me to scan them myself in the Lobby. NOPE! I tried to explain to her that I needed and acceptance scan and a receipt, not a drop off scan that means nothing to me. She said it was the same but no thanks, I'll wait in line.
It is Frustrating when days go by w/o even an acceptance / drop off scan but at some point you should see movement.
Good Luck and Happy Holidays to you!

Always get a receipt. I would never just leave my items in a mail basket or on the counter.

Being that it's the week before Christmas and mail traffic is incredibly heavy, there's a chance that you might not see a scan until it's actually delivered. BTW, when you looked at tracking did you just click on the "View Tracking" link eBay gives where a window pops up with some limited tracking info, or did you also click on the actual USPS number where it says Shipment History, where it gives much better details?
Like many others have already said, it's always best to wait in line to get the scan and receipt. Last Monday morning (worst possible time to go to the PO) I took a package to get scanned, and someone had already left at the drop-off counter what looked like around 50 small identical packages in bubble wrapped envelopes and a number of other different sized packages as well. While I was waiting in line, I watched a clerk scanning them all, and she was scanning and moving them aside one by one so fast that I could see how easy it would be for a clerk to miss a few of them when they're dealing with a large number of packages at the same time and in such a small area to work in.

We are fortunate to have local USPS offices that never miss scans when dropped at the counter, they are sticklers about scanning. Drop and run. Same with the rural USPS contractors that pick up here, they always scan everything as do the UPS drop off joints.
I know it is not that way in a lot of other towns and states. Hate to hear that you all have to go thru standing in line at the post office. Brutal. I could not imagine. Have not done that since I was a green horn, 20+ years ago. Since I moved out rural, no problems, ever.
The only time I ever get a receipt from the UPS/FedEx/USPS drop off joint is when the wife unit is returning something.
Got to do what you have to do to make it work.

If you do not use SCAN sheet, you should. Other packages, do they show an acceptance scan?
I always drop off my packages at the counter with a SCAN sheet to get the acceptance scan. I mail a lot of tubes. Tubes are handled manually, which causes delays. They are notorious for not getting scanned along the way, so if your post office did not scan the tube for whatever reason, the next scan may well be when it is delivered.
I wouldn't worry, it's Christmas time, lot of packages in the system.

Yep. I put it on the wrong way. At least now I know.

Just a general response to all who commented. All my other packages were scanned that day. The clerk always scans all my packages when I bring them in as soon as I put them on the counter when they are standing right there, but it looks like I put the label on the wrong direction. I am in a super small town, I am always the only customer when I visit there, it is definitely not lost in that building somewhere. When I put them on the counter he or she immediately scans them in, so I just leave, and I don't wait for a receipt. But thanks for everyone's help, I will make sure they are all scanned after this.

Scanning a SCAN form actually doesn't generate an acceptance scan for the individual packages on that form. It only generates a "Shipment Received - Acceptance Pending" scan. Only when each item is individually scanned does it get "accepted". This usually happens in the back away from the front counter. Here's an example from today. The SCAN form was scanned just after noon. It won't receive an acceptance scan until mail is sorted tonight and each item is scanned and verified.

You are correct for official acceptance at the carrier level for insurance purposes.
However for eBay, both the scan form and the kiosk count as "acceptance" that fulfill handling timeline.
The problem would still have been avoided if the seller in this instance asked for a receipt at drop off.
To get a receipt means it HAS to be scanned and is the only way to ensure a scan takes place outside of using kiosk or scan form.

The package was scanned through the Nashville facility this morning, so it should be to the customer in the next day or 2. Thanks everyone!
