I am selling my beer stein collection and I have them all individually listed. Someone purchased 4 the other night and they all come in their own box. Ebay managed to get close on the weight but the box size they come up with is not even close to being large enough to pack all 4 in. So I pack them up , change the box size to what it needs to be and it costs me 13.00 more than ebay collected to have them shipped based on their incorrect box size. This is not the first time this has happened and I would appreciate advice on how to avoid in the future.
Thanks in Advance

In your preferences, click OFF the 'allow combined shipments' (as it combines weight but not size correctly) then when a buyer buys 4 DIFFERENT items, they will pay, in full that correct amount, for each one, and then you can 'refund' what you choose to refund.

This is one of the big issues with combined shipping, the box size is never altered. I personally never would have ebay calculate the combined shipping total...do as @stainlessenginecovers suggests for future orders.
State in your listings that you refund buyers for combined shipping benefits. Either that, or they can place items in a shopping cart and request a total. Just know that those items are still available for anyone to purchase and pay for while you're calculate the shipping to give the total, so dont delay if buyers request a total.

Hello, I appreciate your insight. I went to shipping preferences but I don't see where to switch it to off like you suggested. I apologize for my inability.

I can't seem to locate where to click off the combined shipments, can you help?

After going to ebay, top left is your name; hover over it and at drop down, click 'Account Settings'
Scroll down to 'Selling' then you will see 'Shipping Preferences' - click it
Scroll down to 'Allow Combined Shipping and Payments'- click off to the right 'EDIT'
Edit as needed (turn off all)

Under your account settings, go to "shipping preferences" listed under selling, turn off combined shipping there by editing your shipping preference rules
