returning an item , by just putting it back into the mail without a returning label the seller refuses to admit that they got it back, ebay closes the return request because didn't have the proof of return label on it , so they claim it wasn't returned. Watch out for this they have it down that you never returned it.

When you returned the pkg unopened, you lost all buyer protection. If you paid by cc you can try for a chargeback with them.

That would be refusing the package. Your not supposed to do that and yes you lost protection.

You should read the terms of the user agreement, so that you know how to protect your interests as a buyer.

Refusing the package causes you to loose your buyer protection.
Does tracking show it was returned to the seller?

Duh.
If you won't protect yourself no one will do it for you.

Always use a return label with a tracking number if you want to get a refund. Without a tracking number there is no proof at all that the seller received the item back.
Hopefully you are not out of a lot of money. Some times you have to chalk these things up to a lesson learned and move on.
