Hey fellow ebay sellers, will we be able to use the "ebay Standard Envelope" to ship other things like Event Ticket Stubs, Sports Patches, Pins, Photographs or Postcards and stuff like that. Stuff that is just an ounce or so and are inexpensive. If they will not allow this I will be increasing my minimum shipping charge from $3.50 to $4.00.

"I have been getting reports from my buyers that the tracking info is saying "Item Delivered" when it has not. This has happened in at least 6 cases so far. They are reporting that it's taking anywhere from 1-4 additional days until the item actually arrives."
@herkimermurray I suggest that if you are going to keep using the shipping method that you send ALL buyers this note when you ship.
"I am shipping using a new shipping method that eBay is offering to save you money. The tracking is not like normal tracking and is only scanned by sorting equipment at my post office and then at your post office. This means that it will say delivered to your post office up to a few days before it actually is delivered to your home. This type of tracking can not be read by handheld scanners or at the post office counter."
Feel free to reword that of course, but that is the general gist.

"Another point, about the rigid/semi-rigid thing. Why would eBay advertise mailers that are inappropriate to use with this new service? "
@herkimermurray Are you saying that these are not accepted by USPS?

Note the size limits and the requirement for the address to be parallel to the longest side in addition to not being rigid.

You'll get no argument from me that this program and its limitations should have been explained better before it was rolled out.

This is a little off topic but, these Standard Shipping tracking numbers don't seem to work at all. They start with ESU and then some numbers, but where does this tracking actually show up? My post office tried scanning label I printed out and nothing happened. I've sent a few out this way and none of them have ever come up on the tracking radar at any point. What good is tracking if it's not showing up as sent or delivered? I'm I doing something wrong, does the post office need to do something different when I drop it off?

I think the answers could be found in the replies that are above your post. History is your friend! 😎

@making_your_dreams_come_true The tracking is only read by the sorting equipment, it can not be read by handheld scanners or at the post office counter. I am wondering if all post offices have the scanning equipment in their sorting machines.
A sent scan should happen at your post office by the sorting equipment and a "delivered" scan at the buyer's post office. Actual delivery is up to a few days later depending on the post office.

OK thanks, I've also read on here that the label needs to be placed in the proper place on the envelope for the scanners to even detect a code. Perhaps that is why nothing has shown up on the things I've sent. Do you know the best placement for the label?

@making_your_dreams_come_true The address needs to be parallel to the LONG side of the envelope
Read about the requirements here:
https://pages.ebay.com/ebaystandardenvelope/
There is more information on this page too:

I wish that they would put ALL of the information on one page.

Yes, that's what I've been doing, still no scans, I guess no one has complained about not receiving their cards, but I'm more worried that my seller status with eBay goes down because the tracking numbers aren't uploaded as sent or delivered, maybe eBay isn't taking these into consideration on your overall status right now? Anyway, thanks for the information.

i just got back from the post office who said they will no longer take my envelopes with top loaded card(s). super frustrating since i've sent over 90 packages with no issues outside of 1-2 lost packages. I'm putting 1-2 cards max in top loaders in a greeting card envelope. definitely under 1/4 inch and complying with all the standards set by ebay. yet this post office in brooklyn will not budge. i guess ill just put them in a drop box somewhere and pray i don't get the packages returned. super annoying and dumb

was told today by post office that the pwe was too rigid and it would be an extra 20 cent fee for non machinable. I paid for 2 oz which was .71 cents but the pwe was less than a ounce which would have qualified for the .51 cents.
so does anyone happen to know if that extra postage paid will cover the non machinable fee or how that fee would even be paid and how to make sure they know it’s non machinable beforehand so the pwe doesn’t get stuck? They suggested paying .91 cents to cover but I don’t see the purpose if the package is under 1 oz feel like they were just blowing smoke.
Also, I normally use my dymo label maker but the labels have came out really small. My worry was that the label or persons address for that matter, would not be read sufficiently. Has anyone sent using a dymo? Or just the good old printing paper and tape.
Would appreciate any feedback especially from anyone on eBay side because I’ve already dropped off 10 packages that are in limbo currently.

I use a rollo printer and have not had a problem that I know of.
The biggest problem with the program is the tracking is not reliable. The carrier can't scan on pickup, they can't scan at the counter. So you have to hope that it hits a scanner somewhere and at least goes to accepted.
I am getting about a 90% rate on them ever getting scanned. Some are not. I just got my first, I didn't receive the card complaint and it never scanned but I did ship it. After talking to ebay support they said to have the buyer open an item not delivered complaint and I would be covered since I used the label, but I am skeptical. I know I mailed it, but I can't prove it.

Ebay has been all over with their "standards" and instructions. at one point they had a link to 6x8 paperboard mailjackets and a link to buy them as suggested. So I bought them and then later they took them off. Right now I am going with the PWE and that seems ok, but sometimes they never scan.
02-26-2021 09:34 PM
I don't know about label placement. There is nothing about that on ebay website. On the second link you listed they actually provide a link to buy 6.x8 paperboard mailjackects. which I bought in the beginning but the first link says no cardboard! no consistent message

Scanning sometimes takes a few days to show up. It kinda defeats the purpose if the carrier or the counter can't scan it on pickup. You have no proof you mailed the item. Eventually most of my items show up as accepted, in transit and then delivered. Maybe 9 out of 10?
I just had my first two complaints. Both not delivered complaints. One has no tracking results at all other than I printed the label. It was never scanned. So I am worried how that is going to go. The second shows as delivered but the buys claims they never got it. definitely some problems to work out
I don't understand why on a 4x6 label a regular barcode that could be scanned at the counter or by the carrier to prove you mailed the item.
