Why does eBay not allow, Each Additional Item ships Free

So I'm not interested in losing money on every sale.  eBay would like that sure, but for my needs, I charge the shipping cost on the FIRST ITEM,  But if customer wants to buy 2, 3, 4 that is fine, they can ride along in the parcel.  SO I CHARGE FOR SHIPMENT OF THE FIRST ITEM, BUT EACH ADDITIONAL ITEM SHIPS FREE, that is what I want, that is what I deserve.

So here comes eBay, can I do that?  NOPE!  Just spent 2 hours looking over this eBay malware they claim is a website, AND there IS NO WAY.  I even went to a page that would supposedly do that, and it will NOT.

I want my first item to be charged $3.88 shipping from the Buyer, and if they get more, the ADDITIONAL ITEMS SHIP FREE.  By the way, I have ONLY ONE THING FOR SALE (in quantity) so this is a SIMPLE situation. Rah rah eBay, way to go, make sure that nobody can do, what they want to do !!!  Does any human being reading this have an actual solution to this problem?  Be specific, I dont need to read any more posts telling me to go "do something" and that something  isn't even present on the webpage.     Yumpy SNAP

On another account that I run I have a shipping promotion set up where they never pay more than $8 in shipping on beauty products (they have to add everything into their cart and apply the promotion). Maybe you could set that to $3.88 or $4.

You have to change it to flat rate from free shipping here:

I think you might need a store subscription to be able to access these promotions so maybe that is where you're having problems?

There is a section on offering shipping discounts.  I won't try to explain it, but it is here if you wish to read about it.

Also you can play with you listings and experiment until you get them as you want.  Just start a new listing and schedule it to start in the future.  I think you can schedule it three weeks out.  Each time you save it you can open the listing and check to see if you have the shipping as you want.  If not try again.  Once you have it like you want the change the scheduled date to start immediately.

Re: Why does eBay not allow, Each Additional Item ships Free

I am able to fill out a box that populates for the additional postage amount on my multi-quantity listings if more than one is purchased.  I use flat rate shipping and add an amount (or .00) in the box in the shipping area for any additional purchase of the item.

There may be more than one listing form still available, but this option has always been available for me to use.    I do not use a quick listing form.

I was going to say the same thing. When I have multiple numbers of an item in a listing, I have calculated for the US, and flat shipping to Canada. Always is a box to fill out for each additional item.

Re: Why does eBay not allow, Each Additional Item ships Free

i'm the opposite. I really wish ebay would STOP defaulting shipping cost for flat rate to all on MQ listings to zero for any additional. IMHO it SHOULD default to the same cost for any additional as the same unless the seller changes it to free on additional, but it's been this way ever since they added that to the listing form eons ago.

It also means you can't use the 'pencil' to quick edit qty from 1 as it WILL default to FS for additional items. You have to go into the listing and revise both the qty AND the additional shipping.

When you are just dealing with a shipping discount on just one listing it isn't necessary to set up a special promotion or set up shipping rules as it can be done on your listing page. When you have more than one item on the listing page a second box just pop up just below the one with the price for one item.  You can enter 0.00 in it or another amount.  Are you not seeing that box?

Re: Why does eBay not allow, Each Additional Item ships Free

Post #8 says it all. You have to go to each listing and have to:

a.) use 'flat rate shipping' (not USPS Flat Rate, but Flat Rate vs. Calculated)

b.) have to have multiple items available in the listing

c.) listing has to be Buy It Now (not auction).

Re: Why does eBay not allow, Each Additional Item ships Free

Thanks for commenting, even so, puhleeeze give me a break.  Because you say "be on flat rate shipping".  I am already on "FLAT RATE".  My "FLAT RATE" is $3.88 on the item.   I want each additional item purchased to ship free.   As it stands, if they buy MORE than that, additional items are ALSO $3.88 and that is written right onto my sales page BY EBAY,,, but I CANNOT change it to what I want.

Also your response says "youl'l have to go to each listing" why does your response say that?  I only have ONE LISTING.    I have ONE LISTING with quantities available.  If I want first item charge shipping, and each additional SHIPS FREE that is what I cannot do.  I don't see anybody delivering a solution to that, certainly not eBay.

Actually I know what the "SOLUTION" is, you have to invite the customer to put the items into their shopping cart.  Then, before paying there is a button "request total from seller".   Yes I can tell them to do that.  But it's ridiculous.  This situation is so incredibly simple but eBay has no way to handle it.  First item shipping is $3.88 and each additional ships free, and eBay WONT DO IT.

Re: Why does eBay not allow, Each Additional Item ships Free

Hi, thanks for including the screen-shot image.  However, no I don't see that.  I have ONE LISTING and that one listing has QUANTITIES AVAILABLE.  Everybody describing a solution like you're describing, is a presumption I have MULTIPLE LISTINGS but I don't, why should I?  I have 40 units available.  Should I have to create TWO listing pages, one with 20 units, OTHER also has 20 units?  THEN I have "multiple listings" and then I see your image with "each additional cost" ?

Is that what I got to do?  Why?

It clutters the system with multiple listings when only one listing is needed.

Re: Why does eBay not allow, Each Additional Item ships Free

Thanks because screen-shots are good.  I don't have an "eBay store" and it should not be necessary.  I have one listing page only, with multiple quantities.  Here is my screen shot.  I dont have some field with "shipping price" then 2nd field "each additional" I do not have that field.  See this screen shot:eBay Malware Stinks.JPG

Did the photo show up?  It is a JPEG.  I put a title onto the file, "eBay Malware Stinks".  😚

Look at that, even their emoticons are far too small, by a factor of 6.  I guess that software author ALSO went home early, rather than fix it.

Go here and make sure that you have your settings where you are allowing combined shipping and then see if the option shows up for you for additional shipments.

Re: Why does eBay not allow, Each Additional Item ships Free

@koshkadrook

It should not be necessary for the items to be put in the cart first.  I don't even know if they could request an invoice if the items are from one listing.

Are you on a pc or are you listing on the app?  If you are on a pc you definitely should be seeing that second box that I posted in my screenshot. It sounds like you may not have combined shipments authorized. Got to account/ shipping preferences   https://www.ebay.com/ship/prfand

Then, next to allow combined payments and shipping click on 'edit'.  Check off that you allow combined payments and set the number of days. The number of days doesn't really apply with just one listing but it looks like you have to pick it.   Click save.

Then go to your listing and click on revise, check to see if there not a box under the first one to enter shipping.

Re: Why does eBay not allow, Each Additional Item ships Free

I have never seen such a garbage website in all my life.  So I click a button that says "BEST" because it seems a little more likely, perhaps.  But eBay then declares it is a "SOLUTION".  I did NOT say it is a solution. I only said it looks like the "BEST" answer.  Way to go eBay, always taking everything off to the tangent of fantasy land with no bearings on reality.  NOBODY has solved this problem.  But thanks for trying.
