I dropped off a big box last Friday (December 2024) at the counter at USPS for prepaid label items because there was a line out the door and only two people working (as usual). It is now Tuesday and it has not even been checked in by USPS. The worker said it could be several more days before it is checked in. My customer is not happy. When I lived in Italy in the 1970s, Italy was known for having the worst postal system in Europe. Everyone in Rome used the Vatican City post office. Italians had just accepted this sad fact of life. Is America doing the same? Our postal system is inefficient, slow, packages are routinely mis-delivered, training is deficient, and it has terrible customer service and it has been this way for years. I've written my senators and representatives more than once. All I get are reassurances that go nowhere. Do we need to take to the streets and protest for a better funded more efficient national postal service? Is anyone else as sick of this as I am? eBay, can't you do do something? You are a major USPS customer, after all.

If you do not like the line, you come back another time, schedule a pickup from your home, find a different location you can receive a scan from or have someone assist you in standing in line instead. As others have said - until USPS take possession, it is 100% in your exclusive control. If you abandon without a receipt, that was also 100% in your exclusive control as your personal decision.
I do not fault USPS for service under your exclusive control.

If we expect and put up with bad service, we will continue to get the same. Other businesses shine during the holiday rush. We should expect USPS to do so too!
Saturday and Sunday do not count in those days so you dropped off Friday so Tuesday is only a couple days and also packages are not required to be scanned until they are delivered.

Wrong info, buddy! Packages are supposed to be scanned upon pickup by carrier. eBay standard envelopes for items under $20 are scanned thru machines. This starts the tracking procedure for the buyers and sellers. If they are not scanned like I said, sellers will receive defects in their seller dashboard. For example, I have one business day handling so it's very important my items are scanned upon pickup by carrier or that night by machines.

It's always amusing to read posts here by sellers who fail to take personal responsibility for shipping and scanning and then blame USPS.
Reminds me a lot of the conversations in junior high.

Nope, post office is not required to scan your packages at pickup. It may be important that they are but it's not required. I have had over 500,000 transactions as a seller on eBay.
Sorry but you have the wrong info BUDDY!

Wrong again, buddy! Google and do some research on the subject. With 500,000 transactions, I hope you're using a "scan sheet" on pick-up. If not, I can see why your packages are not being scanned on pick-up so they will be scanned later at the processing plant. No need to thank me, buy me a beer next time you see me.

Should I complain and revolt at the supermarkets I shop because the lines are long and sometimes the supermarkets overcharge me...I bought a wine a few weeks ago and got charged for 110 of them...it's a mistake and I got over it...with the overdraft fees and everything...
LOL
Wow. I would not be getting over paying fees to my bank.

I also compare any current US postal conditions to Italy in the 1970's. Cuz, logic.

I have been having similar situations more frequently in the last 6 months.
I have NOT had a package get lost yet! They always get there eventually! I have had a couple items take longer travel vacations than I have 😅
Just this week I have two packages not get scanned into the tracking system, which makes me nervous a little. Certainly makes customers nervous, AND eBay thinks I didn't ship, when I did.
In talking with a PO worker at an office in Alabama, she said sometimes that happens if the scanner can't read the barcode on the printed label. Maybe it got smeared, torn, crinkled, or something.
SO, I'm going to change my ways! Starting with my next order!
* Take a photo of the package with the label to send to the customer.
* Stand in line and get a tracking receipt.

Nope, I don't use a scan sheet, never had any problems with post office scanning my packages. I usually drop them in the drop box inside and they get scanned that same day.
I would not buy anyone a alcoholic drink...

You are correct, America is doing the same. But fortunately ebay does allow other shipping options. Try UPS or FedEx next time.
