When buying shipping labels the page is defaulting to Priority Mail

When I go to buy a shipping label Priority is always pre-selected no matter what postage I specified in the listing.  Meaning that myself and others will inevitably make the mistake of selecting the wrong shipping method when just about everything I ship is Media Mail.  This is bogus and needs to go away.   Many have been complaining about it and Ebay has not responded to this sudden problem.

You just have to pay attention. Mine has been that way for months.

Re: When buying shipping labels the page is defaulting to Priority Mail

It's been going on for us for a couple months.

eBay wants us to upgrade shipping to compensate for the delivery services moving slower during the pandemic. Sometimes the default is several time higher than the cheapest shipping and often is much higher than the sale price.

Compare this to the river site where 99% of the time they get it right.

I think most long time sellers understand how ebay operates and are careful about this. But new sellers are probably losing a lot of money on this.

If you do make a mistake and accidentally print out the higher postage, it's pretty easy to cancel the label and start over.

I agree. This is ridiculous. Sometimes after I select media mail it will skip back to priority on its own. Have to be very careful. Extremely annoying.

I agree that paying attention will help...but it also shouldn't be defaulting to something other than what the buyer selects. The buyer makes a choice for the item and the shipping method when they make the purchase. That's what it should default to....the order.

I wonder if the buyer selects Express, if the label still defaults to Priority. That would indicate a glitch over a surreptitious way to increase delivery times.

Agreed, but Ebay wants the buyers to get their widgets in the fastest possible manner, so by defaulting to the more expensive, faster method Ebay hopes this will happen.

It's also no coincidence that the more expensive shipping method means more fees to Ebay.

I'm sure things are working out as planned...for Ebay, which is why I said sellers need to pay attention. Around here, if you snooze, you lose.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Re: When buying shipping labels the page is defaulting to Priority Mail

This has been happening with all my sales since Monday 10/19/20. If the buyer selects Priority it upgrades to EXPRESS! This is total bovine excrement. Just one more way eBay tries to screw the seller.

Fees are charged on the amount of shipping $ shown (and paid for by the buyer)  on the listing, not what you pay for the shipping, so that is not the reason.

Re: When buying shipping labels the page is defaulting to Priority Mail

I have the same problem! I caught it immediately but it is annoying.  Also, it looks like rates increased by .25 for small, light padded envelopes.  (4x7x1).  Can anyone confirm the higher rates?  Thanks.

Yes, on the higher rates..........USPS raised them"temporarily", you can google it.....

I bet the most we will get out of anyone at ebay is: "This feature is working as intended"

The FVF fee should be based on the shipping selected by the buyer so there's no windfall in terms of increased fees unless eBay gets a larger discount on the higher priced service. There is the benefit of an improved buyer experience whereby a buyer paid for X delivery and received faster service but that comes 100% at the seller's expense.

If it's intentional, it's shady in my opinion.

@Anonymous , Shipping used to default to the service selected by the buyer. Why is shipping now defaulting to a service that's faster and more expense that what the buyer ordered?
