What do I do with this QR code?

Experts,

Today I had a buyer do local pick-up. He mailed me a QR code later (see below).

How does this work?

What do I do now?

The QR code or the 6-digit code can only be scanned/entered using the eBay app.

It cannot be entered on a desktop at all.

Read under "Proof of Pickup":

Looks like it's to prove you delivered the goods to the buyer.   It also has a six digit code, see if there is a place to enter that on your payment page.

I did a "mark as picked up" before I got the code from the buyer.  So I did a "unmark as picked up" and another "mark as picked up." There was no place to put the code.

You could mark it picked up even if it was not.  The code shows the buyer was there.  I have never sold any pick up items so I never had to deal with one.  I would print it out so you will have it if a need comes up.

If you have eBay ap on your smart phone there might be a place to scan it into?

I never did one of these, not sure if my flip phone would know what a "QR" code even is.

But I did do many local pickup sales over the years, I only accepted cash, and always made sure to mark as "shipped" afterwards so that eBay got paid.

Thanks @ferncliff-39 . Exactly the right documentation.

Thanks for your inputs on this. I don't have the eBay app on my cellphone, but I did save the img file.

It would be nice if this code could be typed in on a desktop or laptop. The "app" allows this (see the link from @ferncliff-39 ) though in principle it should not be necessary on most cellphones (excluding of course VBR's  flip phone).  The desktop application (on which it would be truly useful) does not.  Who defines these things?

This process to prove an item was picked up is severely deficient.   The buyer provided both the QR code and the 6-digit code when the item was picked up today but there is no way to input the information in the ebay app.  The only options I have for the sold item are to contact the buyer, leave feedback, mark item as unpaid, relist the item, or sell a similar item.   None of those will prove the buyer picked up the item.   Neither of us are happy about this.  He paid promptly for the item and now his money is being held hostage by ebay because of a stupid process that does not work.   Great little crooked side hustle ebay has going on here, put a hold on funds from thousands of buyers and deposit them to earn interest.    Very displeased.

You don't see the 'banner'?

To scan the QR code:

  1. Go to Selling on the eBay App.
  2. Go to the Sold tab.
  3. Select the Arrange Pickup banner.
  4. Tap the Scan to confirm pickup button.

Your funds are being held because you havent sold anything for more than a year, Ebay considers you a new seller.Read over your U/A for details on this when you signed up. Ebay doesnt have the funds, their payment processor does, which is Ayden. But I would expect in your case, PP is holding your funds for the same reason, before they are released to Ayden. On a local pick up item, a buyer can not file an item not received case, unless the seller refuses to hand the item over to him.In that case, he would have to file for item not received.

What do I do with this QR code?

Nope, the "Arrange Pickup Banner" is not showing anywhere in the sold item's information.  And no resolution after spending 2 hours with "customer service";  got this response (verbatim from the chat transcript) "Yes, it seems that there is a technical glitch in the system which is preventing the issue to be resolved".   This is a messed up process.    I was not able to scan the QR code when the buyer was actually here picking up the item and am not able to enter the 6-digit pickup confirmation code anywhere in the ebay app.     I wish it were as easy as the steps outlined above.     Thanks for trying to help though, I appreciate it.

What do I do with this QR code?

Adding on to prior comments.   Through trial-and-error I found a solution to fix my problem where I was unable to scan the QR code or enter the 6-digit code to confirm pickup and get the hold on the buyer's payment released.     When I logged in through the ebay app on my phone the sold item was showing as "Picked up".  The "Arrange Pickup" banner was not available so I could not get to the "Scan [QR code] to confirm" step as required.    Here is what I had to do to make the pickup confirmation process work for me:

Log in to ebay account using laptop computer

Change status of sold item to "Not picked up"

Delete and reinstall ebay app on my phone

Log into ebay account using ebay app on my phone

Only then I could follow these steps ferncliff-39 provided:

Go to Selling on the eBay App

Go to the Sold tab

Select the Arrange Pickup banner

Tap the Scan to confirm pickup button  (I could not scan the QR code, the buyer had gone, so I had to enter 6-digit confirmation code)

Hope this helps others in the same predicament.    I had to figure this out on my own in order to get the hold on the buyer's payment released.  Ebay's customer service was not any help in resolving this issue.  Please ebay, make this process smoother and easier.  Why not allow the pickup confirmation code to be entered either through the app on your phone or through a desktop or laptop?

Thank you for this detailed explanation - very helpful if/when this comes up with others.

Do you know or can you find out if there is a tech ticket open on this, and is the App team aware of it?

Do you know if eBay has plans to allow the 6-digit code to be entered on a PC, without the app? I know we've asked about this in the past, the answer was "no" back then...
