Re: USPS to end First Class Mail July 9th

First-class package service is changing in July: https://bestlifeonline.com/usps-replacing-first-class-package-service-news/#:~:text=In%20its%20PRC%2...

...The Postal Service just announced more new plans for these packages. On Feb. 10, the agency filed a proposal with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) to get rid of its entire existing FCPS category altogether. According to a press release, the USPS is looking to replace this service with a new offering called USPS Ground Advantage.

"USPS Ground Advantage will feature two-to five day service standards for packages up to 70 pounds," the agency said in its news release, adding that the new shipping offering has an "anticipated summer 2023 launch."

In its PRC filing, the USPS gave a more exact date for when it is planning to implement this new change: "The Postal Service expects that its retail and commercial customers will all benefit from this consolidated ground package offering, which beginning on July 9, 2023, will be known as USPS Ground Advantage."...

The USPS is just renaming the First Class Package service, and combining it with their ground service.  The new name is "USPS Ground Advantage".  To be clear, the "advantage" will be for the USPS, as it will feature slower shipping times to go along with those skyrocketing prices over the last two years that we've seen for packages 9-16 ounces.

(Well, they do say that they are now giving $100 insurance on these packages, which of course means that you can now file a claim for the USPS to reject).

I have to admit I assumed the same thing. But knowing that it is coming, and since Pirateship has added Parcel Select Cubic Pricing, I looked into it and found that it is substantially cheaper than both Priority Mail and UPS.

And much to my surprise pretty much as quick as PM. Below are some real packages I have sent in the past couple of weeks. All of these shipments were sent from Nevada and were over 1 pound so first class would not have been available anyways.

shipped 2/25 (Saturday) to SC delivered 3/2

2/25 to California, delivered 2/27

2/25 to California delivered 3/1

2/25 to NJ delivered 3/2

2/27 to NJ delivered 3/1

2/27 to SC - currently in SC due for delivery 3/4

2/27 to NH delivered 3/1

2/27 to Oregon delivered 3/2

2/28 to Texas, delivered 3/2

My concerns are eased, how about yours?

The confusion about slower delivery is because first USPS announced , I think in June of last year, that they were slowing down delivery of parcels. then in August, they announced that they were upgrading delivery times of parcels to 2 to 5 days. I have also found many parcel select ground items being delivered in 2 or 3 days to zone 8, so obviously they had to go by air.

I was referring to First Class Package service with that comment, and I have seen some slower shipping with it, but nothing more than a couple of days.

But, you are correct that about some of the advantages that have been happening with USPS ground with packages over a pound.  We've been shifting a lot of shipping to USPS ground that had been going to FedEx or UPS over the last few years.

The rules of shipping change every year, and we have to adjust every year.

Re: USPS to end First Class Mail July 9th

They are changing it... They will now have USPS Ground Advantage. This means they will use ground transportation to get packages to location instead of air. First class shipping will be ending.

OK, you are half right.  We all need to be careful when giving information to make sure it is correct so we don't cause anyone UNDUE concern.

Regular First Class mail is NOT going anywhere.  It will function as it has always function.  If you want to mail a payment, a card, a letter to a friend, etc., you will still be able to do that as you always have.

It is First Class PACKAGES that is changing.  That is completely different from FC Letters.

Does anyone have a link to what the pricing is on this new service.  Commercial Rates.

A spot check of the proposed Notice 123 for July 9, 2023 shows prices that are the same for the pieces currently known as First Class packages, and about the same for packages over 1 pound, currently Parcel Select Ground (some prices a bit higher and others lower).

Re: USPS to end First Class Mail July 9th

Insurance doesn't really help if the package is delivered to a locked mail box if the mail person puts it in the wrong receptacle and the owner or user of that particular receptacle are not honest!
