USPS Shipping, Tracking, Scanning Issues

Some of my packages aren't getting scanned. I went to my local post office this morning (Jacksonville, Fl) and they told me they aren't scanning any packages they are just pushing them through. So, don't worry too much if you don't see any scans. One I shipped a few days ago didn't show any scans until it got to the buyers city today.

Also, on one package when I check tracking on ebay it shows no movement but when I click on the tracking number or track through USPS I do see movement. I don't think tracking is updating on ebay's end.

File a complaint on USPS.com and give them all the information needed. I had a problem with sub rural carriers to lazy to pick up my outgoing mail which needed to be scanned by midnite that day.  A person will respond back to you within 24 hours and results within 3 days. Don't bother going to your PO and complaining, they don't care.

Thank you. I should have worded my post better. They will scan my packages if I stand in line. I was referring to packages I didn't want to wait in line to have scanned. I dropped them in the large cart and usually when I do that they get scanned at the end of the day when they bring the carts to the back to load on the trucks. It's just right now they are so busy that if you drop your box in the cart it probably won't get scanned until it gets to the hub or to the destination city. But, yes, they always give me a scan if I wait in line.

In that case @jillsconsignment , I would ask a manager if you drop packages in the laundry cart, can you leave your scan sheet with one of the clerks to scan without waiting in line. Clerk just has to scan at any point between customers which should take less than a minute.

My PO doesn't scan this time of year either (without waiting in line), however the local sort facility does scan. So I know if I bring packages to the PO and dump them in the laundry cart or one of the blue SSK bins, there will be a scan within a day (max 2) from the local sort facility. Since your local sort facility isn't scanning, it's worth asking if you can leave your scan sheet with a clerk. Worst that happens is they say no. At least it would get a scan showing on eBay.

Pre-covid my PO used to have someone (usually the manager) out on the floor, answering questions and helping people in line to keep things moving. That person had a handheld scanner and would scan anything prepaid if you asked, so you could avoid the line. They even had a wireless printer and could generate a receipt. Since covid that service disappeared from my local PO.

Another option if you want an immediate scan on prepaids is using the Self Service Kiosk. SSK scan is the same as a SCAN sheet - it counts for eBay metrics, but does not count if you need to file a claim with USPS.

The only time a manual package scan is done, would be at acceptance and delivery. The transit and other scans are automatic as packages pass through the equipment, at least they're supposed to be. Some equipment fails and sometimes mail bunches up, falls off and has to be tossed back onto the path.

Florida has so many resellers, I'm sure the PO just wants to get the packages moving as quickly as possible. But the problem is that if they fail to acceptance scan and the package is lost, you have no proof of USPS receiving it and insurance won't kick in.

@wastingtime101 Thank you. I rarely ever drop packages in the cart. Only if they are under a certain dollar amount. I don't use the self service kiosk either as it says right on the receipt that it's not an actual acceptance scan. I don't use a scan sheet either. Lol. I guess you can say I'm ocd about my packages and I want each one hand scanned and I want a receipt for each one. 🙂

If you that's what u want, "hand scanned and a receipt for each one", then y r u dropping them in the cart instead of standing in line?

@stuff4divas It was only certain packages that I dropped in the cart. There was a line out the door and these were items that weren't as expensive as others that I sell.
