Thanks @pjcdn2005 for tagging me. I did not see @magman55775 updates with wt/dim as I haven't been here much this past week.
89436 to 10309 current eBay FedEx Ground rate: $11.78 (retail $27.45)
89436 to 57644 current eBay FedEx Ground rate: $27.86 (retail $36.77)
89436 to 57068 current eBay FedEx Ground rate: $18.21 (retail $22.52)
The first factor is the NY zip is getting a bigger discount off retail rates through eBay - perhaps because it's a larger hub with more packages traveling through. The first SD zip has the highest rate, even at retail, perhaps because it's more rural. Sometimes distance is not the only factor in rates.
With UPS/FedEx there are times I've had to pay an "extended delivery area surcharge" because the address is so rural. That's a bit more extreme than the regular rates, but speaks to what I believe we're seeing here: lower rates to areas where FedEx is regularly sending higher volume, higher rates to areas with lower volume.

Were you back billed? There has been a lot of that. It's often in error but good luck fighting it.

The rates have not increased in the last month. They decreased in March.
Do you want assistance or is this just a rant? If you want assistance I'm happy to help you work this out.

i would gladly take any help in understanding you can provide. I assume you are with e bay?
i had calculated shipping charges based on these lower rates and was quite surprised when they doubled.
if they were reduced for 2 months were sellers informed?
if the reduction ended were sellers informed? Or did i miss it?
If a temporary reduction ends, isnt that a net increase?
thanks
Larry

Hi @magman55775 . I do not work for eBay. Many of the rate changes were announced, some were not. The rate reduction in March was not temporary, it's still in effect.
In order to assist, can you provide more details? For starters, are you talking about the rates you're actually paying for labels, or rates the buyer sees on the listing? If it's about buyer-facing rates on the listing that can likely be attributed to a setting on your shipping preferences page to charge buyers retail rates vs online discounted rates.
If it's the rate you're actually paying for labels:
- Are these rates you're paying upfront or cost adjustments after the fact?
- Please provide exact weight and dimensions for a sample package
- Also provide the exact rate you paid 2 months ago compared to the rate you're paying today
- Also provide the to/from zip codes
- Anything irregular about the package (round tube, wrapped in plastic, odd shape, etc)?
With that info we should be able to help you figure out what's going on.

rates i am being charged.
in all fairness i guess the rates havent doubled, its just the closer shioments are twice the charge of further ones. I discovered this May 1 where the sale of this item happened to have been in south dakota
i am in Sparks Nv 89436
these items are the same item same weight same dimensions each shipment
to zip 10309 NY $11.75
before may 1
after may 1
to zip 57644 SD 27.80
to zip 57068 SD 20.42
ALL FED EX

What is going on?

Need the weight and dimensions @magman55775 . Can you provide those?

Truth in dimensions & weight helps. You can't round down. Not had one UPS/FedEx Adjustment ever. I round up to nearest inch & ounce when measuring/weighting. Unless you are shipping unusual dimensions or weight, only avenue open to error would be initial declaration which they do warn you up front is subject to penalties.

I don't buy on eBay nor use FedEx, but you did mention UPS in your title.
Based on your dimensions the prices for fedex are double what I'm seeing off eBay.
16 for the first zip and 12 dollars for the second with UPS based on 37x5x5 3 lb.
Can you share a screen shot for what you are seeing?
