Surcharge for Poly and bubble mailers using UPS and Fedex ground economy?

We made the mistake in the past using an ebay poly mailer for fedex ground and got hit with a  surcharge later  for doing so.  Fedex and UPS ground economy is now beating USPS ground advantage on several things.  Have you shipped these methods recently with poly mailers and received a surcharge after the shipment? It appears on Fedex that they still have the surcharge "as evaluated by our Operations team"

Gee another reason not to use Fedex. LOL I dont use them at all as they beat up packages so bad. I actually had a package delivered yesterday by them, very heavy and they left it in my driveway in the rain instead of at my covered door/porch. I had to drag it to my door in the rain...

I only use UPS sometimes for an odd size heavier box thats traveling far if there is that big of a rate difference. You have to pay for pickups or I have to go out of my way to drop it off which is a time suck. Its not worth saving a couple bucks

I use USPS. I can leave it in my box, free pickups and easy drop off 24 hours a day. Its pennies difference 99% of the time.

Yes,

I got hit on several for special handling because of to much tape and the UPS equipment thought it was a poly bag or shrink wrapped.

There are many things that will trigger the UPS "special handling" additional cost plus penalty and shipping from ebay you do not have the ability to declare the special handling criteria and pay the nominal cost increase but are hit with a fairly large penalty + cost after the fact.

Also shipping from ebay you do not have the ability to appeal the additional fees which in some cases can be in the hundreds of dollars or more.

I now ship UPS from pirate ship where you can declare the special handling and appeal if needed.

Poly Bag Criteria:
If an article is encased in a soft-sided pack like a poly bag or bubble mailer, and the longest side exceeds 18 inches, the second longest side exceeds 14 inches, or the height exceeds 6 inches, an Additional Handling fee may apply

Yeah I don't use UPS or Fed Ex because of all the overcharges. At least I've never had that from the USPS. I do remember back 25 years ago when I was selling computer equipment here and had a UPS account and regular pickup I was getting routine supplemental charges about a month after shipping. One of many reasons I changed what I sell.

With all the USPS delays and issues, we have been using UPS or FedEx anytime their price is within a few dollars of USPS.
The only issue so far are UPS upgrades on small packages.
Noticed UPS Ground is quite often cheaper (or just a dollar or so more) for smaller packages when compared to USPS Ground Advantage.
SO, we choose UPS.   But it seems many quotes in the $6 range on eBay for UPS Ground have a high rate of being incorrect and being upgraded

at least UPS and Fedex can actually get the package reliably delivered and on time.

Anything over $150 or so is more than I will currently trust with USPS
