SHIPPING COST

Noticed some sellers are charging excess shipping charges! Example I was looking at a collectable marble (1), seller is charging $9.20.  Seems like its excessive to me...

Re: SHIPPING COST

Sellers are allowed to charge whatever they want for shipping. Most buyers shop by total cost rather than specifically analyzing the shipping cost. If the seller is shipping via retail Priority Mail, then that's lower than the actual cost to ship your item.

Re: SHIPPING COST

eBay uses the term "economy shipping" to include USPS Retail Ground, Parcel Select Ground, and Media Mail.  $9.20 would be the exact cost to ship anything up to 1 pound via Retail Ground to USPS Zone 3.

Re: SHIPPING COST

USPS Economy Shipping $9.20, NOT a heavy item it's one playing marble.  Cost of Marble is less than the shipping cost.  Just seems like someone is trying to blink the "system" and overcharge.

Re: SHIPPING COST

I've seen other sellers charging around $5.00 range for shipping, this $9.20 so too high to me

Re: SHIPPING COST

It's priced per full pound:

Most sellers would have chosen First Class package shipping for your item, since it's faster and cheaper. But eBay doesn't force a seller to make that choice.  The seller might be unwise but he isn't breaking any rules, so if you aren't willing to pay $9 then just hit the back button.

Sellers charge what they feel like charging for shipping, you forget that shipping cost for a seller also involves supplies such as tape, labels, printer ink, paper, as well as the packaging itself, along with the actual time spent on preparing the order. If you don't like your cost, you are free to look elsewhere.

Re: SHIPPING COST

please dont forget that if this were a small ladies watch the size of a marble the FVF woud be 15%

after taxes in Los Angeles then the FVF on the shipping would be $1.51. the seller would be left with $7.69

sellers are getting squezed on the shipping with taxes and fees

Re: SHIPPING COST

This one is easy. Don't buy that marble if you don't like the total cost to you.

Look for that marble from someone using first class parcel maybe.

Whatever. You are in control of your spending.

Re: SHIPPING COST

You do realize sellers pay a final value fee on the shipping, right?

Re: SHIPPING COST

One of the nice things about eBay for sellers is that a seller is free to charge whatever shipping cost he wants.

One of the nice things about eBay for buyers is that there is never a requirement that a buyer purchase an item if he considers either the price or the shipping cost to be too high.

And how would you feel if he just threw it in a padded envelope ($5.00 shipping) but the envelope got crushed by a heavy box shattering the marble? I sell coffee mugs that weigh around 8 ounces but which have by their nature a degree of fragility. I double box them with extra bubble wrap to be sure they get where they are going undamaged. By the time I am done the package weighs, and is billed postage for, about 2 pounds. And I won't do it any other way.

Re: SHIPPING COST

Padded envelopes are the most useless piece of shipping method invented yet. If it needs protection, a padded envelope will not be adequate. It is super simple to use a small box BOX and ship first class parcel for less than priority or parcel select.

Yes, a coffee mug adequately protected for shipment will go over one pound. This thread is talking about a marble.
