Received badly packaged, damaged item, seller could not print return, I paid with his promise...

I received a badly packed item which got smashed up by UPS.  Seller offered refund eventually with return postage.  Seller was unable to get a postage label to me, so he asked me to organise and get a refund from him.  I paid £8.54 and attached the Hermes invoice.  He refund £8.54 immediaitely from my return item.  He has had the item back and refunded the remainder of the item, so still owes me the £8.54 extra I paid.  He has stopped communicating.  Ebay closed the case.  How do I get ebay to step in and get him to pay.  During the process, I had an ebay message stating that if I buy return postage, the seller would repay me, if not they would step in.  Thanks. Adrian.

Unfortunately, you've been duped.

When a seller is responsible for return shipping but cannot provide a label, they are supposed to send you seperate funds in a different transaction rather than refunding from the original one.

eBay cannot force a seller to refund more than the received payment.

You got scammed by a crooked seller. Leave appropriate feedback to warn other buyers and don't trust eBay sellers. Most are honest but not all
